  • please im a begginer and go slow like the cast on video old lady!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • you went waaay too fast.!

  • well considering that this seems like the most complicated of the stitches...u think u can slow down??? i can barely understand what your doing...:S

  • Doing the same thing but my work looks so rotten. It doesn't have the ribbing effect. And the stitches are so tight. Could you-.. Could you help me? I keep fussing in the internet, looking for these good tutorials. Help.. Help me.

  • @1stSecretInvaderEve Nevermind, I already know how. ^^,

  • It looks to me like you're knitting three and purling three. I'm confused. Were you doing k3, p3? Or am I going crazy? lol

  • @mdpianist

I'm doing K2, P2, but you can do any number. don't go crazy. watch again.

  • I thought that, too, but on the 3rd stitch, she is either putting the yarn forward (between the needles) to purl or putting it behind (between the needles) to do a knit stitch.

  • @ThisGirlSews Ahhh, ok, I see now. Thanks :)

  • @pegschr I dont think she chooses them, haha

  • @pegschr

Unfortunately, I have no control over the ads on my videos. I wasn't aware that there were any political ones though. I'm sorry if you've been offended and hope you'll still watch. It's a way for me to make a few cents and helps support the work I do.

  • hi i have a question! i dont know what im doing wrong but the back of my scarf doesnt have the rib effect only the front side. the back look like just purl. HELP ME!

  • @kiankichi

what stitch are you using? It sounds like stockinette stitch. Knit one row, Purl one row. Is that it?

  • great videos; thanks for all your instruction

  • @frtysumthin

thanks. glad you like the videos. please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • @knittingtipsbyjudy

so its like knit, knit, purl, purl, knit, knit etc.

so what does both sides look like??

  • @idontcarejj

sorry it took so long for me to get back to you, but you had it right and both sides should look the same. hope you'll keep watching, and look for me on facebook too.

  • what happens if you end in a knit stitch???

  • @Sketchylite123

you would start the next row with Knit.

  • Thank you!

I've been confused about what to start with after turning it round :)

  • @CharleyHayes08

JUST MAKE SURE YOU KEEP THE KNITS KNITS AND THE PURLS PURLS.

  • it all makes more sense now.. thanks~!

  • @FlavorlessTea

glad to hear the video helped you. please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • you are real good with your teachings. I can pick up on it very fast. also I am a beginner or mid way.

  • @kabeana69

good for you for getting it so quickly. now you know. please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • you are real good with your teachings. I can pick up on it very fast.

  • Comment removed

  • @RBeauvais1

Just go slow. Knit 2, bring the yarn in front, Purl 2. Continue. If you know the Knit stitch and the Purl stitch you'll be fine. Practice makes perfect.

  • @knittingtipsbyjudy It's the "bring the yarn in front" part that's new and it's hard to tell what's going on because it's too fast.

  • @RBeauvais1 first she was showing you to do it SLOWLY! atleast she can knit

  • Thank you SO much for sharing your videos. I'm a beginner and it couldn't have been explained better or easier. Thank you again for sharing!

  • @MisfitsChick2005

thanks for the nice comment. it's nice to have you in the knitting community. please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • when you say bring the yarn forward what do you mean? When I try this stitch it looks like ive got more stitches than i started with.

  • @BlabsTheWabs

Just keep watching over and over and you'll get it. You bring the yarn to the front to purl and then to the back to knit.

  • thanks! i have a question do you HAVE to do two knit and two purl? can you do 3 knit and 3 purl? or 2 knit and 3 purl? thanks! i learned A LOT from you

  • @bluengreen64

There are many ways to do ribbing. It can be any combination you want. Just make sure if you end with Purl you start the next row with Knit. Have fun with it. Please keep watching. New video on today.

  • Wish it were slower my head is spinning

  • Well i just had a question. How many stitches did you start with?

  • @AZNSayshi22

Make sure you have an even number of stitches on your needle to knit ribbing.

  • is it possible for you to make the same kind of video...only like twenty billion times slower??? i have no idea how to do the rib stitch and you explain it very well but i still can't do it.

  • @cinderpelt17

ribbing is simply knit two stitches, bring the yarn in front, purl two stitches, put the yarn in back, repeat. Go to my web-site for written instructions. sorry you thought this video was too fast.

  • @cinderpelt17 Yes, I agree. I think that because of the video quality, it would be very helpful to have a slower video showing what you are doing. You explain very well though. Thank you!

  • @leoraac Oh, and it would also be helpful if we could see what it looks like after a few rows (just a suggestion)

  • If, when I am knitting and the stitches are not moving much or I find myself have difficulty putting 2 needles through one stitch, does this mean I'm knitting too tight or using too large needles? How can I fix this problem?

  • @WaterBattery

it could be any of the things you mention, but I would say you just need to practice. experiment with different size needles and different yarns. good luck and don;t give up.

  • finally ! a video that EXPLAINS ribbing

    but it is too fast

    but it works :DDDDDDD

  • @amandie825

glad you got it and sorry it was too fast. keep practicing and it will get easy. please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • :-) FYI Just found a great easy pattern at ebeginnersknitting (.) com

  • This is way too fast!!

  • @louised

sorry. watch it a few more times. it's simply knit, bring the yarn in front, purl, put the yarn in back, knit. keep trying and you'll get it..

  • Thanks I finally get it :3

It kept going wrong and I couldn't figure out why. It's because you need to move the wool back and forth depending on the stitch. Thanks! <3

  • @shollo12

glad you stuck with it till you got it. now you know forever. please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • omg i see wat i was doing wrong now!! no WONDER i was getting in SUCH pickle!! x

  • @ItsAmeliaMadeline

so glad you got out of such a pickel and now you know how to do ribbing. please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • i learned how to knit with a Klutz knitting book and in there is says to knit 1, purl 1. But i always end up with a yarn mess! Thanks alot for telling me that its knit 2, purl 2. So much easier !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @speedyresx

actually ribbing can be 1x1, 2x2, 3x3, 4x4...whatever you want, you just have to make sure of the amount of stitches. If you do 1x1, be sure to end with k1, pl so when you turn it around you start with a knit. But, having said that, k2, p2 is the most common way to do ribbing.

  • I was wondering if you could do a slower version of this!!?? I think you are awesome and I find you are easier to follow. I have just started to learn to knit I learned to cast on by you and I learned the knit stitch by you.

  • @jchernandez100

I will try to do that in the future. Meanwhile, just go slow. K2, P2 making sure you put the yarn in back for K and in front for P.

  • Judy, I love your videos! You are so clear and easy to follow! I wish I was as good of a knitter as you are!

  • @timmyotooleeeee thanks, you will be as good as me when you've knitted for as many

years as I have. Keep at it.

  • Judy, firstly and foremost thaankyouso much for uploading this, the only thing though is that i have a problem.

I dont know quite how to put this, but i know i what i mean.

when i finish doing the ribbing for and edge and i want to do stockinette stitch for a while, what side do i start the knit stich on ?

    please try to simplify this

    thanks

  • it doesn't really matter which side you start the stockinette on since the ribbing is the same on both sides.

glad you like my videos. please keep watching. new one today.

  • ooooh, thank you. I have to start over on my beanie now, but at least I know what I did wrong.

  • THANK YOU

  • how i make those flat rib stitch??

  • follow me and do what I do.

  • oh, now I think I understand!?!! you are moving the yarn from the front and back for pearling and knitting before you take off the stich! because if you wrap the yarn front before taking the stich off ...your doing a wrap around?! thanks, think I got it!

  • glad you got it! now, have fun knitting.

  • Wonderful, but a little fast. :/

    Keep it up.

  • i think your videos are great but it would help if you could slow it down a bit

  • I am 10 years old but one experienced knitter! But what made my knitting even better was your videos. Every time I want to learn something new, no doubt about it, I immediately go to you. Your videos have helped me so much! Thanks Judy. Happy Knitting! ~Tr1shaPumk1n

  • okay so... ive been trying to do this litterly for hours, i cant do it.. its like i do it too tight........ :'(

  • Hi Judy, thanks fir the video, but I have one question that wasn't answered well by this, or any other rib stitch videos I've seen so far; How do you know where to move the thread before each stitch, especially when switching from knit to purl and otherwise? I've tried using methods found in books, but I always end up wrapping my yarn up and adding loops to rows. I can knit, and I can purl, and I can stockinette, but I can't rib to save my life!

  • I was trying to figure this out also..I think I just figured out how to do this rib stich by watching this video! you start with two knit, then you wrap to the front to prepare for the pearl stich, then pearl two. Then move the string to the back between the needles and go back to knitting. With the pearl stich your yarn should always be in the front, knit is in the back...so if you forget which stich you just did...look at if your yarn is in the front or the back...hope this helps!

  • this is very helpful :)

    thank you judy xx

  • Bonjour Judy!...I just wanted to give you a huge THANK YOU...I am an avid crocheter, and it is sometimes a mind boggle going to something like knitting when I am so used to crochet...I was having so much difficulty understanding this simple concept, but now I can successfully perfom this stitch due to your very helpful videos...thanks so much!!!

  • Thanks you so much!!! You are a life saver!!!

  • Judy, I have been "knitting" for over a year but never used the proper method since the ways I had seen shown were so awkward (held needle on lap vertically). My stitches were always too tight and knitting went much slower than I liked.

After just a few minutes of practicing your method from the videos, I am now holding the needles properly, and knitting much more smoothly & quickly! I am so excited!

Thanks So much for posting these videos! You are a God-send!

  • You don't slip the stitch off of the needle after you change from knit to purl or purl to knit. I try carefully to watch but it gets lost on me. I've never seen this before, of course, I'm very new at this.

  • Yes, i too was wondering if you must end the first row with a purl stitch...or does it matter? I didn't think it mattered just as long as the second row is not began with the same kind of stitch I ended with in the first row. Thank you.

P.s. Wonderful video...your videos always help me out!

  • I think I'm going to have to watch this one a few more times before I get it down. You're very experienced, so you go a lot faster than I can follow.

I think I'll get the hang of it, though.

  • i've tried rib stitch 4 times and havent got it but i've seen my mistake after watching this.

    thanks!

  • have you gotten it yet? hope so!!

  • this video is cool.

but does it matter if you end the row on a knit stitch then start the next rowon a purl stitch?

  • It's nice to know that I'm knitting with some

one with the same name Judy.

    methodistgirl

  • yes, there aren't that many of us these days. please keep watching for new videos and I'd appreciate it if you'd take a minute to click on the ads. That really helps my standing at Utube.

    Happy knitting.

  • When you are doing a hat do you need to make sure that everytime you come around to the beginning of your row you are doing the opposite of what you did last time around. Like if I started on 2 knit stitches make sure when I come around i start again on two purl stitches or should I do the opposite and make sure every time I come around i begin with knit stitches.

  • If you're using a circular needle put a marker at the beginning of the row and just continue K2, P2 all the way around. If you're knitting flat it really doesn't matter because you're going to put a seam in the back and it will take up a few stitches and whatever you do won't show. I find it easier to always start with K and end with P.

  • This goes to fast....

  • S!orry. Watch my video, How to Bind Off Ribbing. I tried to go slower.
