Can somebody tell me WHHY ya'll think this is the ACTUAL way the Tongan Tau'olunga is done?? Because CLEARLY you have no idea what your talking about!!
You cannot compare a Tau'olunga to a Lakalaka, as the pacing feet movements are unique to that dance. It is ABSOLUTELY INCORRECT that you would say this is the way we actually do this type of dance!. She looks like a chicken.
@Foipata1 . I believe what people are refering to when they say "this is the ACTUAL way the Tongan Tau'olunga dance is done" is the way her tau'olunga is chreographed; slow and respectful linking her hand & feet gestures to the lyrics and melody's of the song. Unlike other tau'olunga's the movement fast-paced and sometime energitic movments may look "COOL" but total wrong, because the tau'olunga's origins is about virgins looking for husbands and showing off their grace to eiligible men.
maalahi ... aupito gali pe mo koe hoo tauolunga pea okune toe poto pe hono teki moe kamo pea mo hono vae ..... lahi e tauolunga oku ikai kena toe ai e vae .....pea oku maalahi pe ho mini heku maa ho vae pea toe foi vae.....
i love it ! everything wit the eyebrow moves and the teki and kalo kalo movements. everything is traditional, HOW A REAL TAUOLUNGA SHOULD LOOK LIKE...love it lotss =]
Yes the feet movement is tongan. My mum said back in the days they had to move their feet like that when they tauolunga. It's only nowadays that the tauolunga is changing sadly.
Its a mixture of Tongan and Samoan feet movements....she probly not full tongan, even a full tongan dont move their feet like dat....very nice tauolunga though..:)
wow i haven't seen tau'olunga like this in a long time. to those that think the "foot movement" thing isn't tongan.... it is.. the tau'olunga is changing and unfortunately some do not know what the tau'olunga use to look like :(
Theres a huge difference. When Tongans move their feet in a tau'olunga it looks something like what she's doing. Samoans move their feet way different from what she's doing. Those feet movements she's doing is the only way you can move your feet in a Tongan tau'olunga. Of course other than walking, or slapping it.
malie tauolunga...feet movement is not samoan that's how the tongan tauolunga suppose to be... but nowaday people do whatever more like manga ha ha...
To all those who think this is a samoan thing with the feet!!!!! ITS NOT!!!! THIS IS THE REAL TRADITION TONGAN TAUOLUNGA!!!! Thats how you teo the difference between a lakalaka wich is the way everyone dances these days!!!!!
Malie - Awesome. Although I'm curiousThis tau'olunga seems a little Samoan, the shuffling of the feet and slapping legs - is this because of where she's from in Tonga?
@ro2ma I guess shes just dancing to the story that the song is telling (as a Tau'olunga should) hence the feet slapping to "pasi va'e pea ke vilo takai" which means to slap (or clap) the feet then turn around. The Samoan influence to this dance is also directly related to the story of the song which to my knowledge is called Sau'ilunga which is of samoan origin, and also features another samoan word "fa'ataupati" which means to constantly slap.

@LiiSAHBAYBEE that's the OLD Tau'olunga style & also it may have to do with the song's theme "Loukie mei Ha'amoa"
