The rigol appears as it is in averaging mode (or some other non realtime mode). This is the reason in the small spikes that slowly disappear... I don't think you have done a good comparison.
I buy DS1102E is not good. . 1. set SINGLE Trigger -> capture pulse -> H.Scale, ZoomIn ZoomIn... keep Square, yes! is nice.. . 2. set NORMAL Trigger -> capture pulse -> H.Scale, ZoomIn ZoomIn... triangle wave!, oh! is very bad .. . . my company buy GDS-1152A is good! . 1. set SINGLE Trigger -> capture pulse -> H.Scale, ZoomIn ZoomIn.... keep Square, yes! is nice.. . 2. set NORMAL Trigger -> capture pulse -> H.Scale, ZoomIn ZoomIn.... keep Square, yes! is nice too..
assuming this is the fastest sampling for both... how about the price? are both same priced? i checked in ebay, instek seem to have higher priced. more pricey item is no wonder if they are more efficient.
It is set to same condition from the video (0:29) I think you can see the Instek time base setting also in 10ns/div very clear on the bottom of the screen. In this monent it also switch to the equipment sampling mode too (2.5GSa/s).
If I had the opportunity to get compared to other instruments in the future I will post all of the parameter to your all, thanks for your advice.
@EEVblog I just watched your videos about this Dave and immediately recognized the symptoms. Thanks for the videos Dave ! I'm learning a lot from them.
Hello All,
I am trying to decide between 2 brands of oscilloscope:
Owon & Rigol
I think Rigol has the stronger brand and I can't beat the 1G/sec RTS but . . .
a few features come at a lower price for the Owon - the bigest I'm looking at is the VGA screen.
Since Rigol hasn't bothered with VGA (QVGA even in their high end) should I care about this feature?
Or is it a gimmick for this type of application?
Thanks! Appreciate anyone's info that knows!

It looks like the Rigol is not in Real-Time mode here?
Can you explain what you are doing and what modes (Equiv sampling or real-time) you are using?

Just only input 4MHz signal by function generator and time base set to 10ns/div. I think it has switched to the equivalment sampling mode.
This equipment Interpolation point policy and sampling hit raet not very well.

That's what real-time mode is for, you don't get this in real-time mode.
Is the Instek using equivalent-time sampling mode too? (are you comparing apples to apples?)
When you post comparisons like this please also post all the parameters used.

@InstrumentVu
Then it is not a fair comparison.
