Oh please guys... All your comments about balance and such... It's a video camera in the back of a large hall. What part of acoustics and microphones do you not understand? Yes recordings like this will always sound unbalanced and clumsy. I'm in choral conducting and used to be in sound production (still am on the side). Musical snobs should keep their comments off little videos like this.
Love it! I played this in high school and is one of my favorite musical memories. Our director (band) first thought we might not be able to handle it and thought he'd have to get a college group to play the instrumental parts but then thought, "let's see how they sightread it". We blew him away!
@Rappster16 This piece is not avant garde. I hear you about some avant garde pieces being challenging to listen to, but to make a comment that this piece (which ins NOT avant garde) is "one of the few avant-garde pieces that is actually enjoyable to hear" as though it's a universal "law" is an uninformed comment at best. Stating that it's one of the few avant-garde pieces (again, it's NOT avant-garde) that YOU enjoy might be a fair statement, but hardly a universal law.
(lol at the "hear you" pun). I did not intend to come across as dogmatic.
i was merely expressing my opinion without prefacing it with "i think." my apologies if i came off as overly insulting to proponentsof "avant-garde" music
My church choir performed Pinkham's Cantata (I sing Second Alto) this past Sunday, and it was the most rewarding and challenging choral piece we ever attempted. I felt great to be part of this wonderful tradition.
This music is so difficult to find, thanks for posting. We are singing the Cantata for our Christmas concert this year and it is so helpful to hear the piece.
First comment in six months... love this one

Brass is too loud. Balance suffers.

The brass section is way too loud. :( Wish I could hear all the entries a bit clearer...I have to learn this for Friday, All State auditions.

Thanks very much for sharing, I also sang the XMAS Cantata in high school. (1972)!
I have loved it ever since. One of my favorites among the many performances we gave.
