@Padata3000 Around the turn of the millennium, Sandy Frank had plans to re-exploit the BotP franchise, with the idea of putting the violence that was cut in the '70's back in. To test out the idea, Sandy Frank's people also redid "Rescue of the Astronauts" and "invasion of Space Center", and cut together this "movie version".
There were also plans to recast the voices and adapt the unadapted episodes as "Battle of the Planets: The New Adventures of G-Force. Nothing came of the project.
I like Alan Young vocing 7-Zark-7, better then this David guy. plus the intro music is terrible..they should have stayed with the original music.. gezz how can they screw up a great Cartoon.
I thought these graphics were fantastic back in 1978... I still think they're fantastic now. really well made for its time. Much better than most of the stuff today. The 7-Zark-7 aftermarket addition thing never blended in too well from a quality point of view.
35 years later I find out that everything I liked about BOTP as a kid was (a) added after the fact and (b) totally ruins the show. I now know that in the original version, Gatchaman, people die by the hundreds, the lead team member has real emotions, the kid is a regular human and not some inarticulate cyborg, rather than have 1/2 of it described to you by an effeminate robot you actually SEE the entire episode, but most of all, there are ACTUAL HUMAN RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE CHARACTERS!
@UnanimousDelivers Welcome to Censorship in America, especially with Children's Television in the 1970's. They made Warner Bros take all the explosions and violent endings out of Roadrunner cartoons, they put the Robot in place of the Human Torch with NBC's Fantastic Four, they made them dumb down Starblazers which was in Syndication like BOTP. I could go on, but you get the point,

@dj4monie "Welcome to Censorship in America, especially with Children's Television in the 1970's" We needed it alot this stuff from japan was little to intense for kids. A cartoons with people getting killed and the there wierd sexuality would be too much for kids 6-9 years old to watch . North Amercian cartoons new how far to go and when too stop. Gatchaman could've shown on a late night like 10:00pm that would've been cool.
I am now 42 years old, and remember watching this like it was yesterday.

This was a cool show, it beats the crap out of some of those Hannah Barbera cartoons that ruled the saturday morning line ups....

This was a fun show before He-Man came along and ruined cartoons in the 80s until Batman came along and fixed everything.
