  • I'm building my own guitar right now too. basically doing the same thing as this project, these videos definitely helped.

  • @drummondF Glad about that! Good luck with your project!

  • did you make the neck or buy it

  • Bought it from ebay. A bit of a risk, but it turned out to be a first class neck.

  • This is something I've never seen before! Very enjoyable. Time just flew by there.

  • great video, thank you

  • Very cool. I wish I had a grandpa like that!

  • great granpa

  • Grandpa Rocks, lol i wish my grandpa new how to make a guitar XD

  • Ultimate respect for that Elu router - they are class!

  • cool

next time you build one you might want to use pencil,or something, and make your center lines, and cross lines for the tremlo, pickups, and stuff

just make sure your neck is on,and use the center line

that way there is no guesswork,or movement on the parts

and for the screw holes use a small center punch to mark them

    lets see somemore!-lol

  • Yeah, I think we did all of that! I didn't put everything in the video.

  • oh ok well i seen you moving the stuff around a little - just wanted to help out if you havent done any marking,or stuff like that - a lot of people dont know it ,and just dont think about it

  • nice work , is it koa wood?

the body is a lil too thick 4 me but solid bodies /thicker ones have good tone, and sound

  • It's mahogany. The body is VERY heavy, and would be a terrible stage guitar. But for the kind of work I do, sitting down, it's great. It plays so wonderfully.

  • should i get the 1litre or 4litre rustins plastic coating?....thank you

  • 1 litre will do a guitar body.

  • Very neat stuff. Way over my head! (I can feel alot of wind on my head now!)

  • is it just me, or does the distance between the nut and the 1st fret look wrong at 8:45ish?

  • Nothing wrong with that ratio.

  • Haha that was great, just like Brian May making his guitar with his Dad :P

  • Thanks for sharing that. I enjoyed it alot. Great looking guitar that sounds good too. Cheers to the Urban Grampa lol.

  • Wow, so much work..

  • Kewl. Haven't ever seen a guitar being built before, so quite interesting!

  • your father is just grand, he should post his own how to videos, or BBC Scotland should give him his own how to make show he's that good!

  • I keep telling him he'd be great on youtube, but he don't wanna know!

  • nice :)

  • I think your fathers voice and yours sound much a like. I suspect we know what you'll sound like in a few years.

When you were fitting the neck and worried about how solid a contact it had farther in than you could reach with paper... Plastigauge is your friend. ;-)

  • That piece of wood became a wonderfull guitar, nice job! :)

  • A very engaging video. I'm always taken over watching a real craftsman at work. Each and every stage considered precisely before being committed. You must treasure your father. Wonderful watching.

  • All those hours of hard work! Can't wait to hear it play. Great video.

  • simply amazing watching this. thats your dad?

  • That's him.

  • He doesn't want his face on youtube. You have no idea the trouble I have framing shots without his face in them!

  • Yerrr a bloody tease, Urban! You know what we were waiting for.

It looks great and I'm sure your Dad's proud of his handiwork.

    What's the next project??

  • Honestly, it never crossed my mind to play the thing for you! Doh! I will though. The next project may or may not be a fretless bass guitar.

  • Grrr, I was itching to see you play it! Its a thing of beauty. I love watching things being made.

  • His voice is simaller to sean connery lol.

  • ey... that is some work. and the result was grat..I see you soon...whit a tune....

  • What a video! Had me absolutely riveted! Ask your da' if he'll make you a grand piano next. That'd be cool.

  • Nice idea, but difficult. Would you settle for breaking one up and then running the film backwards?

  • Hee,hee, hee! Heck yeah, I'd settle for that!I look forward to that video! When can we expect it?

  • WOW! I am jealous. What a great project to do with your father.

    One very unique guitar.

  • Beautiful guitar! My dad has refinished and/or built 5 guitars over the years so I know how much work you guys put into it :-)

  • Peri that's awesome! How cool to have built you own guitar I am totally jealous!

  • Great job. Looks beautiful.

  • Your dad (if that is your dad...) sounds like Sean Connery :P

  • Thanks for that! That was a very well done video - the filming looked professional, the commentary was very good and the topic was quite informative! I also loved the finished product and it's nice to see you and father sharing the same interest. Is your father a musician as well?

  • He used to play the banjo, but isn't really "musical".

  • Class video peri

  • Ooooh..that's looking well cool. Looking forward to having a shot of that! 8^)

  • That was pretty cool, i've never seen a guitar made before, never realized there was so much that went into it!

  • Truly the work of a skilled artisan! It's a beautiful guitar, Peri!

  • That was interesting! The guitar looks great and I'm looking forward to hear how it sounds...

  • Being one who practically lives in my workshop,I really enjoyed watching that. You now have a hand made, one of a kind guitar....your new baby!Nothing like building it your self will give that feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment.Truly fine craftsmanship, looking forward to hearing it.

  • I had no idea how much work goes into that kind of stuff. Very cool.

  • I'm in love with that guitar

  • Looks great, a real labour of love from you and your dad, now please don't keep us in suspense, we want to hear it in action.

  • That's great, thanks for sharing that with us Peri. Makes my wanna tell my Dad to dust off his tools. :)

  • you and your father make a good team, i can see it now, The Urban Guitar Co.

  • This is something you will always treasure.

    Just Beautiful!

  • Beautiful.

  • I hope you put up a video with you playing that beauty soon, such build up and we didn't get to hear it! Very disappointing, but I'm looking forward to hearing it all the same.

  • I don't have a director's account, so I have the ten minute limit. I WILL play it for you soon.

  • I didn't realize you obtained Bill Lawrence pickups. Nice! I remember reading the other day on the Seymour Duncan site about someone setting up the blend pot and using the Stew Mac site for more info. Awesome project!

  • Wow. Fantastic! Congratulations to your father. I hope you play it soon!

  • The Guitar Looks Really Cool Cant Wait To Hear U Play It

  • It's my dad that has the skills, I just do the project management!

  • Fantastic!
