If Kessel keeps playing like he has been and goaltending works itself out, we can definitely make the playoffs. That's a lot of ifs, but we have 3 goalies who have shown signs of brilliance in their careers (some more consistently than others) and Kessel seems to be the real deal, so I don't think playoffs are out of the question just yet. We should know by the end of december though.

If the Leafs can beat the Bruins, they have an easy schedule next weak, could put themselves back in the division title hunt. Buffalo has been playing above their heads all year. Bruins are nothing without Kessel.

Paradis is a pretty good pick up. Probably more like a burke player then Tlusty is. Kind of reminds me of Greg Nemisz. Seems like they could both turn into good players. I like it. Really brings more grit to the team if he begins to bloom

Here is how I look at it Steve! The Leafs as of today are only 6 points out of a playoff spot, but have a cuople game son a few teams, I still think they will make it :) but if they dont and get 9th place they have accomplished alot by not letting Boston get the 1st or 2nd overall pick :)

i'm not sure how good of a trade it is. i think im kind of in the middle, like you steve. it could turn into nothing, or it could be good. either way, paradis is still playing junior hockey, so it'll be a while before we actually see how good of a fit he is for the team...

although, i am kind of sad that tlusty's been traded, i liked his style of hockey, although he has been in a slump as of late....

Right now the goal is to catch the next team in front of them in the conference, after they achieve that, the next team and so on and so on until finally they're in 9th and then the aim will be to position themselves for the playoffs. I can see Carolina getting Tlusty because Maurice used to like him. But let's face it, we got a 1st round draft pick in return, which is probably better than any pick coming in the 2010 draft. Plus Burkes trade deadline is 10 days before the nhl deadline.

We can probably assume that Pittsburgh, Washington, New Jersey, and Philadelphia have claimed a playoff spot. Now considering who the other teams are (excluding maybe Boston and Buffalo), we do have a fair chance at making the playoffs.

As for the Paradis-Tlusty trade, I thought it was relatively fair. We get a first rounder (was project as a late 2nd round pick) for someone who couldn't crack a bad Leafs lineup (though we probably should've given him this year to prove himself).

Not really...they have 6 teams ahead of them, so they cannot afford even a 4 game losing streak, which is a real possibility. They realistically need a 10 or 12 game undefeated streak...which is almost right out of the question. That terrible start will hang over their heads for the entire season.

Everybody says how we picked up this big banger in Paradis, but you're giving up a BIGGER body (ok...Tlusty may not be the most physical player, but he weighs in at 210 or so), with MORE scoring touch, and FURTHER along the road in development.

Paradis was projected to go between 30-45 last year, Carolina reached for him.

Even if Paradis does become a star (which is unlikely), Leafs still should have got a better deal for Tlusty if they were going to move him.

And as far as playoffs go. I think we have what it takes to make them. Montreal is strugling to just make it through 60 minutes, so I doubt they will make the post season. The Islanders won't be consistent enough to make it. We already know Carolina won't make it. I say Leafs get 6th place and play Phillie in the playoffs. Just my prediction.

Phillip Paradis is a Milan Lucic type player. Maple Leafs not having draft picks in the up coming draft deal Tlusty, 21 years of age ( I believe ) For Paradis, 18 years old. I seen him play when he was 17. He's pretty solid. six-foot-two. Two-hundred pounds. 'Canes also made this deal 'cause of all the injuries, so they had to think about the now instead of the then. He is still in development, I think he will me more consistent then Tlusty, plus he's Burkies type of player.
