If Kessel keeps playing like he has been and goaltending works itself out, we can definitely make the playoffs. That's a lot of ifs, but we have 3 goalies who have shown signs of brilliance in their careers (some more consistently than others) and Kessel seems to be the real deal, so I don't think playoffs are out of the question just yet. We should know by the end of december though.
Paradis is definitely a Burke player. We will have to see in a few years where he and Tlusty are and what they have contributing to their teams to judge this.
Burke sat on this deal for two months, so its not like he had to seize an oppertunity while he had a chance.
If the Leafs can beat the Bruins, they have an easy schedule next weak, could put themselves back in the division title hunt. Buffalo has been playing above their heads all year. Bruins are nothing without Kessel.
Paradis is a pretty good pick up. Probably more like a burke player then Tlusty is. Kind of reminds me of Greg Nemisz. Seems like they could both turn into good players. I like it. Really brings more grit to the team if he begins to bloom
I dont think Leafs will make the playoffs, however if they keep up what they are playing and make a few changes in the offseason they could make a few rounds next year.
And Steve, what do you think about Flyers firing John Stevens?!
when i brag about leafs and say THEIR GOING ALL THE WAY they lose when i say THEY SUCK %$# they win so dont say they rule say they suck so they can win
Well anything can happen. For example. Look at St. Louis last season. At the beginning of the season, they were crappy. But by the end of the season, they made the playoffs. So maybe the Leafs have a chance. MAYBE
Here is how I look at it Steve! The Leafs as of today are only 6 points out of a playoff spot, but have a cuople game son a few teams, I still think they will make it :) but if they dont and get 9th place they have accomplished alot by not letting Boston get the 1st or 2nd overall pick :)
its weird how they hadd sucha a horrible start and everyone is like theres no way in hell they can make the playoffs and it would take a miracle if they did make the palyoffs um... if im not mistaken just its not that much of a miracle there doign right now it would be if they could win more than three game in a roww and they still have a good chance of making it 6pts away thats good! 2-3 years ago like 12-15 game left of the season they were 10 pits away and they almost maade it 1pt they needed
i'm not sure how good of a trade it is. i think im kind of in the middle, like you steve. it could turn into nothing, or it could be good. either way, paradis is still playing junior hockey, so it'll be a while before we actually see how good of a fit he is for the team...
although, i am kind of sad that tlusty's been traded, i liked his style of hockey, although he has been in a slump as of late....
If the leafs can make it to 500 by Christmas (they have 10 games left i believe) I think that they can make a legit shot at the playoffs, Like a previous commenter said they cant have a really long cold streak, and they will have to beat teams that are better than they are. as to the trade, it was down the middle both guys can been seen as wild cards.
Leafs need to have longer possession times in the opposing end without having to play hot potatoe with the puck, some things have to improve before they have a winning chance..
thinking about it it's not that unrealistic that they make the playoffs. say they win the next two games theres four points . a team we are chasing goes to overtime an loses whoopdie doo three points out. if we win 10 outta 16 games in december i think we got a legitimate shot at the playoffs
Speaking from ignorance since I know nothing of Paradis, I think this was a good move. I just had a bad feeling Tlusty is going to be an AHL star for his career
Yeah man fuck tlusty hes garbage im all for the trade. This new Paradis guy the leafs got is the 27th overall pick last year so i can really see this trade being a really good one in the future for the leafs.
Ok, I know that all the websites (including TSN) say that a Gordie Howe Hat trick is a goal, and an assist and a fight in one game, but I remember Gordie Howe being famous for his elbows, so I remember it being a goal, an assist and an elbowing penalty in one game being a Gordie Howe Hat trick, but the only person that would know this would be Gordie himself.
The leafs have 12 pts in 8 games. Thats a pace of 120+ pts. Theyre quitely on fire. I think they got a shot if they can keep this up for another few weeks, and not have any cold streaks.
Right now the goal is to catch the next team in front of them in the conference, after they achieve that, the next team and so on and so on until finally they're in 9th and then the aim will be to position themselves for the playoffs. I can see Carolina getting Tlusty because Maurice used to like him. But let's face it, we got a 1st round draft pick in return, which is probably better than any pick coming in the 2010 draft. Plus Burkes trade deadline is 10 days before the nhl deadline.
We can probably assume that Pittsburgh, Washington, New Jersey, and Philadelphia have claimed a playoff spot. Now considering who the other teams are (excluding maybe Boston and Buffalo), we do have a fair chance at making the playoffs.
As for the Paradis-Tlusty trade, I thought it was relatively fair. We get a first rounder (was project as a late 2nd round pick) for someone who couldn't crack a bad Leafs lineup (though we probably should've given him this year to prove himself).
i think its a so so trade but paradis has a better chance of making an impact after he developes rather then jiri. i think the leafs are gonna finich 7 th OR miss the playoffs by 1-3 points
Tough to say... we need more structure and we need some more firepower upfront to realistically do any damage. I think that Wilson is right, it will very likely go down to the last week or even last game, like the last couple of years.
i think that the leafs will make the playoffs in either the 7th or 8th seed in the east. ...As long as Kessel continues to produce and gustavson comes back healthy
Not really...they have 6 teams ahead of them, so they cannot afford even a 4 game losing streak, which is a real possibility. They realistically need a 10 or 12 game undefeated streak...which is almost right out of the question. That terrible start will hang over their heads for the entire season.
Playoffs? Nay. I'd love it if we did, but at the moment the realistic answer is No. But I do LOVE seeing Kessel laughing and smiling, he seems to be having a great time out there.
Everybody says how we picked up this big banger in Paradis, but you're giving up a BIGGER body (ok...Tlusty may not be the most physical player, but he weighs in at 210 or so), with MORE scoring touch, and FURTHER along the road in development.
Paradis was projected to go between 30-45 last year, Carolina reached for him.
Even if Paradis does become a star (which is unlikely), Leafs still should have got a better deal for Tlusty if they were going to move him.
And as far as playoffs go. I think we have what it takes to make them. Montreal is strugling to just make it through 60 minutes, so I doubt they will make the post season. The Islanders won't be consistent enough to make it. We already know Carolina won't make it. I say Leafs get 6th place and play Phillie in the playoffs. Just my prediction.
It was a good trade, Anything Paradis can touch-he hits.....Playoffs...hmmmm well I won't be disappointed if they don't make it; But, I'll be happy if they do.
Phillip Paradis is a Milan Lucic type player. Maple Leafs not having draft picks in the up coming draft deal Tlusty, 21 years of age ( I believe ) For Paradis, 18 years old. I seen him play when he was 17. He's pretty solid. six-foot-two. Two-hundred pounds. 'Canes also made this deal 'cause of all the injuries, so they had to think about the now instead of the then. He is still in development, I think he will me more consistent then Tlusty, plus he's Burkies type of player.
I said it before and I say it again: I believe the Leafs will make it to the playoffs.

The Leafs have players capable of making the playoffs. It all just depends on how chemistry works out and getting them to do the little things right.
