@Mtanic No. Those are two different Lutheran chorales. Jesu meine Freude is based on the chorale tune "Jesu meine Freude." This is based on the tune "O Haupt voll Blut und Wunden."
There are certain similarities between some chorale tunes, but Bach was very aware of the different chorales he decided to use and how to use them. They had different meanings and functions. It was like a language he was speaking to his listeners.
Once was chosen the 4 seasons as the best classical music. I agree but with a "slight" doubt: Matthaeus Passion that I want to hear when I have my last breath! WONDERFULL!
this is the most amazing, awesome, brilliant, breathtaking chorale ever!
kick-ass!!

But it's still almost the same melody.

@Mtanic Listen again, or listen with a score.
O Haupt voll Blut und Wunden
Jesu meine Freude

The "Wahrlich wahrlich" is dramaturgically and religiously the climax of the SMP. You wouldn't guess listening to Koopman.

The director is Ton Koopman, the evangelist Jörg Dürmüller, and the bass Klaus Mertens.
In other fragments, the soloists are Ekkehard Abele for Jesus, the tenor Paul Agnew, soprano Cornelia Samuelis and alto Bogna Bartosz.
