@steamwally how much did this engine cost you if i might ask? If i am to find anything i probably have to visit old farms or maybe get one thats meant for a boat. Either way, nothing is cheap in Norway im afraid..
What I do is pull it backwards onto compression to bounce it a bit and take the handle off about 20 degrees before compression, then you should be in danger from backfire and handle pinging! (Thats the theory) These engines are known for getting you just where you don't want it!
@steamwally Yeah, I think someone added the mesh. There okay on parrafin but I have to flush the carb with petrol otherwise it won't start, tap doesn't work.
The little neddle bit to put your fingers on is missing, I think I puled the turning bit out with a pair of pliars once, but it was hard to get back in.
lovely little - but heavy - engine Phill, starting first swing is a good trick. Mine has the odd tendency to kick back before it starts off properly when it's in an evil frame of mind!
Thanks! I found out just how heavey when I tried to get it up the setp into the shed by myself. I did it, but only just. It starts so easily this one so long as the plug is clean and the carb flooded.
Were you at Wadington '09 with your PB, I'm sure I was chatting to you for a while?
Cheers! I don''t think I will run on paraffin, it costs more than petrol around here. The cylinder head gets so hot anyway that I would have thought it could run paraffin anyway!
The official line is petrol only - mine ran ok on paraffin but did foul the plug, You would have to run on paraffin then shut off the tank, fill the carb with petrol & let it run a bit to clean up. Just keep to petrol - it's cheaper & less hassle. BTW there should be a brass mesh on the carb strainer to stop nasties getting in.
You change it from 1.5 to 2HP by moving that peg in the govenor adjusting wheel.
I need to put a handle on the water drain tap and the carb drain tap as they are missing. You can still use the tap though. I think I'm going to paint it "Hornsby Maroon."
@steamwally it seems to run a bit rich i have a new head gasket to put on it im looking out for a lister diesel now trolleys good so far still in its eally stages plill would you like to come round next week maybe you can hellp me chage the head gasket?

goldie103103 1 year ago

steamwally 1 year ago

Hi there Dan,
I'd love to come and help out but not sure where in the country you are.
PM me where you live and what day you were thinking and I will see if I'm free.
