I for one am glad that my people are standing up for themselves. Too long have us Khoekhoe and Sonkwa/Basarwa/San/Bushmen been forced into a plethora of dire cercumstances by the invading races i.e. the Europeans and Black Africans. It saddens me to see that a lot of my people in this video speaks setswana instead of our ancestral languages. Us as Khoekhoe & Sonkwa decendants here in South Africa have been forced by law to speak Dutch and English and abandon our languages, traditions and culture
So white colonials tried to protect them, and let them live as they wanted to , and the blacks are trying to destroy them - guess that shows you who the real 'racists' are (not whites)!
@DeltaNordicAdvance You don't understand? They must move because of diamonds. Diamonds is for the rich people. Now we don't talk about colonialism or bad whites against good blacks. It's the time of capitalism man!
The British set up the game reserve where they could live (ie a reservation) having realized from past mistakes that forcible assimilation is a nightmare all around and now the "civilized" Botswana government are repeating the mistake the British did when they were developing. So sad. Race doesn't matter, it seems the problem of the world is "civilized" people of every colour.
A lot of Americans like Chuck Norris and Cher Buono for example had American Indian ancestors who chose to assimilate with and intermarry with Europeans and some chose to remain on their tribal lands preserving tribal traditions. There is nothing wrong with multicultural societies as long as individuals are free to choose their own culture and respect each other's cultural traditions.
Nobody should have any governments moving them off their land if they don't want to move. If the only thing the San Bushmen need to stay on their land is water the smart thing to do would be to make a tourist hotel near them shipping in water they could use in exchange for being local tourist guides or something and let them decide as individuals where they want to live like everybody else,
According to DNA evidence, the Mytochondrial Eve whom every one of us everywhere in the human race is a descendant, was genetically closest to the modern San Bushmen of Botswana. We are all San Bushmen who left our home in Africa so it would seem to be more in Botswana's own self-interest to help preserve San Bushman culture if only for tourism rather than try to turn humanity's ancestral culture into dark skinned carbon copies of crazy neurotic Europeans.

Bloodinthewater: I suggest you spend some time on the couch of a shrink for your misguided paranoia. I don't know if you are an American or not. I hope not. We already have enough fools that loathe themselves to the point they begin searching for something/ somebody to blame. Your first step is to awaken to your problem. Then there should be help for you. :)
so easy to judge. american fools bloated with corporate food products, brains withered and misfiring from a lifetime of poison and misinformation, soulless empty lives, never feel love, never know truth, and never know freedom. these kalahari people are your purest ancestors, yet you are too drunk on your saccharine stupidity to understand this fact. when our culture collapses, finally, the hunter gatherers will return to prominence.
'@jpcaesar1989 whose authority says its better to take people from the natural environment they were born into by the Spirit they dont own it it owns them the govt can spend money to provide for them in thier own place what everyone needs is a place to live and grow and to know where they come from yeah trying cmon "people who hav learned dependance"
@groundzerobuild funny a whiteman wants blacks to go baack to Africa, when everything u have in this world is STOLEN.
America doesnt belong to u, all ur resources and riches in Europe and the America are stolen and still stealing from poor nations to make u "whites" rich.
The Women in 4:07 got money to buy cigarettes and smoke but dont got money to buy water. And why in the world are they smoking around those young children. WTF.
In Europe, it appears, it is fashionable and politically correct to criticise states that were former colonies and to romanticise “tribal peoples” as a form of wildlife that insists on keeping running around with bows and arrows and making fire with a fire-drill rather than striking a match. .Most of this is just jealousy against a successful African government which is trying to do what is best for its people.

I truly do not believe Botswana needs a western, former colony-biased and paternalist NGO half a world away to tell us how to take care of our business, our country and all our peoples.
@frisky2dingo oh also bantu negro africans in thier culture dont consider bushmen as humans........ they are considered like a talking animal , something in bantu culture linking bantus and other humans to the animal world. they view the bushmen and the pygmy's as their property and as an animal to be owned hunted and domesticated as they please.. the bantu race is not a civilized one
If the relocation was sincerely to help them through education and development, then there would have been little resistance. But hey..there is the lucrative diamond and tourism trade in the picture.. The government and Western corporations are treating human beings like wild animals. And please stop calling them Bushmen. Power to the resistance!
cant understand this. botswana is a huge country so there room for everybody. why cant this 'progress' be anywhere else. these people have the right to be there as natives.
@hxasmirl hmm because of racisim... the negro views this nomadic race of folk as inferior and ripe for the harvest.. the negro has not long been in those lands.. some 100s of year only and build nothign .. all they have is european so a desire to have somebody lower than them is strong..
@MachuPichuNT You do know that if they never survived the desert no one would exist on Earth. Everyone on Earth originated from this tribe only 50,000 years age and white skin never existed until just 10,000 years ago.
This woman whose commenteting cannot agree to live under these cnditions...pple shud stick their noses where they belong...The Naro and ada tribes must be developed..stop calling the Bush man..the gov will never and the pple of Botswana will never allow it..we will never allow any suffering or denial to once ancestral land by anybody..most of all the government we vote into power....
it is a scam by power hungry survival international and Steven Corry and his coronies.....
these pple shud stick their noses where they belong..these pple of the Kalahari we love them..and well never deny them access to their ancestral lands..bt they have to be developed..its a shame those producing these documentaries wont agree to live under the same conditions..and stop calling them Bushmen..they have tribee.g Naro
Humans and bushmen cannot co-exist, the bushmen must go? LOL...I thought bushmen are humans. Did you know that these guys were moved from areas without shelter, food and water to areas with easy access to these. Then again the guys who shot the video want to get paid by selling pity and mis-information. Where in the world have you seen mainstream videos showing the positive things about Africa? People need to stop lying. where would they see a computer if they leave in the bush?
This is the same crap they did to the native american Indians. The guy in the video is making big bucks by lying his ass off. He knows what he is doing is wrong but all he can think about is what new car he will buy with the hush money. He needs to be put in the middle of the desert to fend for himself. Stupid fucker.
I am a 100%motswan, but i beg to defer with the govrnment on this 1, i min, they dont care about culture preservation and what not as well as claim to be moving people from stonage and the likes, arent these people the ethinic group from whom we all hail, arent these the people who contribute a substantial factor to the tourisim industry? as much as most of my countrymen would see it (them misnisters as well) i strongly believe they play an integral part to the upbringing n ecnmy of Botswana.
I've just been going through most of the comments, and i'm very pleased with most BATSWANA's comments we are a loving nation we want these people to live just like us.We want to see them in Parliament leading our country.I live in the Uk and tell you what, If a white person comes to Africa he would like to see some with kwashiorkor thats when he would say he has experienced Africa
The only reason why any government would want to resettle the bushmen is so they can control them. Nothing else. I lived with the bushmen for two years, and learnt how to live. Damn the people to hell who want to hurt the GENTLE PEOPLE, the bushmen.
@HenriqueHedler -you are exactly correct, he does need to go back to school, and studing some serious anthropology so he can find out about himself and what he is truly calling himself and don't even realize what he is saying out of total ignorance.
What is really depressing is, what if your job is to have no job? When the powers that be decide that you are more of a burden to exploit, what next? I think you can see the fate of all of humanity in the darker people of the world, particularly the Norther Hemisphere. I'm talking systematic mentacide, infanticide, the works.
Let me tell you: it sure as hell sucks being physically incarcerated and systematically killed off as a group.
If Hitler was still alive someone should tell him that this should be actually the perfect human race and not even close the annoying aryan race evil concept which so much suffering caused to Earth. Other than that, the racism is an absolute disgraceful mistake.
This poorly made video takes no sides, leaves misrepresentations unchallenged; answers to meaningful questions aren't translated or paraphrased. The discussion I've read so far is mostly irrelevant. If a people choose to live a traditional life instead of living in what is essentially a refugee camp as a destroyed culture of third class citizens then I would want them to have that choice. I suggest reading Heart of Dryness by James Workman which gives background and much larger context..
Mirrorofblackpeople, independent communities means that a group of families, friends and people that know each other, don't nothing more than themselves, they are an INDEPENDENT community, with a greater independence of its members. That is human self sufficiency, if you do not understand it, don't come to me with a word you just learn (and somehow you feel superior for thinking I do not know a word, that in fact I do) and tell shit. Goodbye fuckers.
you cannot stop progress. you cannot just sit in 300BC forever. refusal to leave bad living conditions is why somalia and ethipoia will always have to be supported by worldwide welfare (sounds just like in america) because they refuse to leave or they refuse to live clean. they create their own problems.
Lol. You cannot stop progress? Who says so? God? Our civilization? Stupid ethnocentric arguments. Those people living 'tribally' never needed civilization or the modern world, it was the modern world who needed the resources (people, and land) to maintain their destructive and ecocidal way of live. Tribal life, are ways of life of thousands of years, proved to be adequate to satisfy certain needs in certain enviroment by try-and error.
@Faanat no one says it; it is a natural occurrence that you obviously cant comprehend. as the world becomes more populated those who believe in magic, hunt albino's and fear everything will get rolled over, displaced and forgotten. im not saying it to be a dick but when civilization needs that land or their resources, it will get taken because no one gives a shit about spell casting shamans, long necked women and men who hunt wearing only dick covers and giant holes in their painted faces.
If something worked for their ancestors, is because they did it right, so what's the point in changing? As Jean Liedloff pointed out, refusal to change when it is not needed, maintains the habitat, behaviours and "rules" that satisfy our expectancies and tendencies, to which, through the years, our kind was adapted to. Change puts us in an habitat, creates behaviours and a society, that does not follow our expectancies or tendencies, to which we were adapted too.
@Faanat exactly. and my ancestors want to learn actual science and explore space, etc. not sit in 3200bc forever and it worked for them...so you tell me what set of ancestors seriously is going to win out in this.
so while they spread aids like candy on halloween we work to find the cure. thats progress...something these jungle dwellers cant do with all their magic and tree sap.
No you are wrong. They live the same way their ancestors did because it was proved to work through thousands of years of adaptation. Your ancestors, are just a few thousand years old, and you do not follow their way of life, you keep changing, because socioeconomic and ecological conditions force you to, because your system cannot remain the same always, because if not, it dissapears. Those societies who can't be self sufficient and adapt and remain the same as long as possible, tend to dissapea
@Faanat It's interesting what you says but i have a different opinion, i think it's the other way round, it's the enviroment which drives human groups to evolve in different ways, i think european geography and climate drived human groups to grow bigger and evolve in complex societies, on the other hand African typical geography and climate characteristics do not allow human groups to grow up bigger but stand like limited human groups (sorry for my english).
@WiltatKansas When determined ecological context changes, and human groups see more benefit than cost in doing certain actions in that context, they tend to change, of course. But what we know as civilization, is fairly recent in human 'history'. Due to changes in the enviroment, and non-sutainable human behaviour for one reason or another, humans saw more benefits than costs in adopting agriculture.
@Faanat Also human societies do not tend to dissapear but to change assimilating new groups less evolved, maybe the bushmen will dissapear like gropu but his Y-A haplogroup will not dissapear like itself. In fact the bushmen don't live exactly same way that hey lived 50.000 years ago, but almost the same.
What I meant, by 'human societies dissapearing' was not that the components of that society (the humans) dissapeared , but that way of living, behaviours, etc... In that way, human societies DO dissapear, all day, every day.
Do not keep mixing cultural aspects of different cultures into one, because it shows your little understanding. You do not understand why those aspects of different cultures work like that, what aim they have, how did ithey origin, and you dare to judge it all together, to try and justify your fiath in progress.
It is not a natural occurrence, it is artifficial. The begin and expansion of civilization was determined by certain ecological and economic conditions that made it possible to happen.
You are telling a fact, ("Civilization will take over indigenous tribes") and yes, it is true, but only because its way of live (civilization's) it is nos sustainable and it hasn't proved to be right. As Daniel Quinn, pointed out, our civilization is a 'flying' machine falling and falling thinking that is flying, but it doesn't really work for flying. Cvilization will soon keep expanding its totalitarian way of life and destroy our world.
@mysticx0 Don't you realise that civilisations only exist by exploiting and enslaving the rest of the world? - All driven by profit-hungry corporations, Big Food, Big Oil, Big Pharm, not by the real needs of civilisation. There needs to be a balance. As for spreading AIDS - didn't Europeans spread cholera to the Native Americans? Your comments seem a little bigotted.
Humans and bushmen cannot co-exist, the bushmen must go? LOL...I thought bushmen are humans. Did you know that these guys were moved from areas without shelter, food and water to areas with easy access to these. Botswana should just carry on helping their people as long as they do that openly with anyone who is serious coming over to see what they are doing! If Botswana does not do this, these precious people will perish as do the wildlife here! In a few years, people will come to appreciate why it was important to do this! Listening to this reporter carefully just shows how poorly informed she is and she is getting even basic facts so wrong it's embarrasing!
boheumnd:development? achievements? where has those things gotten mankind?sickness, destroying lands, inventions that kill people i could go on. what is wrong witht the simple way of life. it harms no body.what is wrong with reading and reacting to nature?modernisation, desires that does not include nature, wanting to impose ways on other people and countries. that is the problem. change is not the problem. it is those who do the changing. the way in which they do it.
You are sitting there comfortably on your chair, in a presumably warm appartment ,with easy access to food and water, emergency should you get sick, police should you get robbed.
ETC ETC ETC ETC.
And you are sitting there on your
!!computer watching a video!! and asking where those things has gotten mankind...
I am a D//uikhoe from ckgr (New Xade), when watching this video get frastrated. I have difficulties with English, in this case I seem not to be comfartable with the word REBELS and THE LEADER OF THE REBELS. maybe one particularly the lady who used it to explain what it means in this context (CKGR). I mean why people like JUmanda would let this people calling us names like Bushman and Rebels.
white pipo cm 2 develop us,wr dey doin a bad thing? now we r a step ahead so we nid 2 develop our pipo nw dey stand against human development..dat gal said they are pipo who ate dog?? ijoo! dats a true lie unless they choose 2 caz the Bots govnmt wil nt let dam eat animals! instead by relocating them they wil b avoiding cases like dat!! dats nt true aniway! the gvnmt wana offer then help now! why shud we wa8 until they cum 2 the gvnmt and ask help!
if thy have managed to live like ths for 100ts of years why do thy complain when the govt stops its supply of water and health care . surely we can see tht it is no longer possible to just be hunters . it is also amaizing tht thier names are tswana names ths shows tht the truth is tht things have changed basarwa can nolonger claim tht thy are independent of change tht has been going on in botswana for the past 34 years of independence.like all batswana let them help build a nation.
@morwamphetolang they are not allowed to hunt on their own land anymore, so they have to live in the settlements and use that water instead of the sip wells
Be careful which law of nature you choose to apply on people societies. that is how Hitler started the worst war of history. However, selfdetemination sounds Logical
They should be left alone and their culture and practices must extensively be documented so we never lose our mutual heritage because once the human race causes self extinction...and it will happen, there might be a record for the next dominate species to see how we wasted the planet, and maybe they can appreciate the uniqueness and special place this world is.
We all are decended from one of their tribes. They have been living in the wastelands for over 70,000 years and have a bond with the land and animals that us "modern" humans would have ablsotly no idea of, and miss in the most basic of ways. To all you idiots who think that bring our modern garabage culture would help these people...take a good close look at American Indians and see how "good:" they are living.
Yeah, they are living a much purer and genuine lifestyle. I think you and I should give up our modern life and all of its garage (toilet paper, easy access to food, clean water, education) and we should go live out in the desert. Maybe I could get eaten by a lion, that would be quite the experience. You're so very right, what I better life they have. I am jealous.
Fact: Bushmen's ancestors predate the genetic changes of the rest of the human population — making them the "orginal people", from which all humans can ultimately trace their genetic heritage.
The journalist/narrator person does seem kinda biased and contemptuous. It doesn't seem like the Bushmen are really harming anyone by living the way they do. I really hope that the people and government of Botswana can figure out a compromise that lets the Bushmen preserve their way of life and avoid relocation.
What right dose the government have to tell them what they want and force them to abandon their way of life? To me I can't imagine a better way of life than living in complete feedom.
I dont understand why some people want others to lie in the stone age when there's a better life. everyone in Botswana is equal, in other 'so called developed' villages there's been relocation. The problem here was the way they went about the situation
Why would a man advance from stone age to living in a Glass house and then fight to keep another person in a bush so he can pay once in a while to see them live in stone age, in the name of "Vacation".. I feel the Govt is doing justice to the people and survival International a.k.a Europeans shuld live the government alone...
who do you think you are to say our government is stupid, aint you ashamed of your self, so you people you still think that the bushmen are animals and can be used for tourism purposes?? hell no.
You dont understand... why government had disrupt their way of living...why relocate them, why forcing them out of their habitat... come on. Are they willing to be relocate? I dont think so.
IDEAL LIFE? do you really think that this kind of life is ideal? Look at it in this way, a man has to provide for himself and his family, so right now those people are been provided for by the government, what does the government benefit in return, nothing? For how long will it be viable for the government to provide for them while in turn they are just wiping out the animals that we need for Tourism?
"what does the government benefit in return, nothing?" no you go on to say it yourself -
"animals that we need for Tourism"
The Bushman way of life has been perfectly sustainable for tens, possibly hundreds of thousands of years. If it wasn't for the massive problems in our own culture we would not have to ask the San for anything - we'd still have our own animals.
The problem all boils down to greed - money and more than two children.
@Plions22 They have been hunting sustainably for centuries because their survival depends on being sustainable. They have been forbidden to hunt by the government, who want to please the diamond company. I think they have more rights than tourists and the companies that want to get rich from tourism.
The Central Kalahari Game Reserve, home to the Bushmen, has got loads of diamonds. Without diamonds Botswana's economy is non-existent.
The gorvenment has given diamonds exploration licenses to major mining companies.
This has led to them being removed from the CKGR. Of course the gorvement claims its "good" for the Bushmen. Same thing happens with the Australian Aborigines.....
Bottom line: They are being moved from their land simply because of money!!
What you are showing here is what Botswana is trying to change; the abject poverty, high child and mother mortality. They need to be empowered just like you madam reporter, with healthcare, well paying jobs, life and health insurance etc! No culture should die but none should keep people poor! Do you think you are helping them? Be real! How is your argument helpful to them really? To still live this way in 50 years? Press the government to live upto their expectations, not to block help!
You don't understand and you are very ignorant. These people do not want to change their lifestyle and are happy with the way they are living. This cannot be considered poverty either for they do not use any form of currency; they barter. The point is that these people are living how they have lived for generations and generations so instead of being ignorant you should be fascinated with their culture and respect the way they choose to live. Open your eyes.
These people are my people, I know their life and history very well. Don't try to be smart! None of these people want their culture to disappear but they do not want poverty either. No human being would ever opt for that, not today or generations years back. If they had a choice they would have it both ways and that is where it is difficult. So before you insult me, take a good look at yourself and ask yourself in what way is your argument helpful to these people. They need help, period!
If you knew and understood their history, you would appreciate that they do not want to change their lifestyle. They may appear to live in poverty, by your living standards (well paying jobs, health insurance, etc) but they are happy about how their lifestyle. Its what they know and the gorvenment of Botswana is imposing their way of life on them. Its no different from any colonialism.
No it's you who's saying that. Even in this video they are asking for the improvement of their life. It's just that they want that done in the game reserve. They're looking for better life. The impending worsening of climate change will destroy these people with their culture unless someone helps them, exactly what Botswana government is doing. It's here and in this vulnerable but beautiful culture that the effects of the Western pollution will be painfully felt! How does inaction help?
If any people can adapt to a changing climate, it is the Bushmen! It is the Western system of agriculture and food distribution which will probably collapse!
That is absolute nonsense! For years these people have been dependent on the state for basic provisions despite being allowed to hunt freely. They would have found it difficult to survive here otherwise. These people usually do not practice agriculture! This is a new, good development! These people are not being moved to cities! You clearly have no clue what you are talking about here, do you? Botswana loves her people for your info, including these people! There is nothing colonial about it!
I apologise if I was a little strong in my remarks. However while I still agree with what Archbisop Tutu said on the subject of the San people, I will be satisfied that I have been mistaken if you can find me testimonies of San people which confirm they are happy to be moved out of the CKGR into settlements, that their lives have improved, and that they do not wish to go back.
I don't care about that and it's not the first time a person with no idea what Botswana is doing here calls people who agree with the government names. I love every part of my country and its inhabitants and I would like to see everyone living well, perhaps like you. Tutu was saying things fed to him by survival international, so no one in his right mind agrees with it. People are never happy when moved and it has ocurred in many parts of Botswana. Things will get better here, it's a start!
Isn't it rather suprising that a country with a well known tract record of doing all it can to look after its citizens is being vilified over nonsense, most of what's being given as reason completely illogical! Imagine a person saying that a game resrve was designed for people to live in! You've got to be utterly stupid to believe that and clearly disrespectful to people! People do not live in a zoo in your world, no humans live in a park or game resrve in our world. These are people too like u!
i knw and are those that return as rebel against the government after survival international..coz they thought the government will start forcng them to go back so that they can start making money about the whole issue..
people ask urself questions, they have cars, the can speak english, setswana, so how do u think the gotta all that education, those guys are not hunters and gathers..all the government wont is for the to help then, and by the way the have dogs, goat and donkey is that hunting and gathering, ths guys are batswana like me and other guys,,and they are not the first one to be relocated simple. ask urself question i think all u guys are smart..
Yeah i can speak more than four languages, and i can speak the language @6:53.... did u see the toyota hilux that those guys are driving..seriously even if u don't reallly know history is that hunting and gatherers....
What world are you living in? How many of them have cars?? How many of them can speak English?? How many of them are educated??
I lived with the San people in the CKGR for a month and trust me they are hunters (this is by no means an insult, its what they do, its what they know, its part of who they are, its their culture!!), they dont go to school and they definintely do not own cars....Maybe one or 2 do have delapitated Toyota's but the majority do not....
Ask yourself, rather, why is the Botswana government hellbent on "relocating" them?? Could it be that the CKGR is full of diamonds and DEBSWANA simply getting rid of them (in the name of relocation)?
They dont want to be relocated, they are happy where they are and Botswana gorvenment simply doesnt care about them.....
U lived with them for a month!! when did u live in CKGR?, after people we relocated...do u know that they use to be school in CKGR? and only grade 1 to 5 we offered there, and students had to go for grade 6 to Dkar...
I was there in 2006/2007 and most recently Feb08 (the longest I've been with them was last year)....Xade/Molapo etc villages in the middle of the park....
Yes I know they were relocated, they were being relocated as late as last year!!
My point is they should not be relocated!! Simply because they dont want to be relocated

@frisky2dingo oh also bantu negro africans in thier culture dont consider bushmen as humans........ they are considered like a talking animal , something in bantu culture linking bantus and other humans to the animal world. they view the bushmen and the pygmy's as their property and as an animal to be owned hunted and domesticated as they please.. the bantu race is not a civilized one
frisky2dingo 3 weeks ago
If the relocation was sincerely to help them through education and development, then there would have been little resistance. But hey..there is the lucrative diamond and tourism trade in the picture.. The government and Western corporations are treating human beings like wild animals. And please stop calling them Bushmen. you cannot stop progress. you cannot just sit in 300BC forever. refusal to leave bad living conditions is why somalia and ethipoia will always have to be supported by worldwide welfare (sounds just like in america) because they refuse to leave or they refuse to live clean. they create their own problems.
mysticx0 1 year ago
@mysticx0 one more thing...ever heard of subtitles journeymanpictures???
mysticx0 1 year ago
Faanat 1 year ago
@Faanat no one says it; it is a natural occurrence that you obviously cant comprehend. as the world becomes more populated those who believe in magic, hunt albino's and fear everything will get rolled over, displaced and forgotten. im not saying it to be a dick but when civilization needs that land or their resources, it will get taken because no one gives a shit about spell casting shamans, long necked women and men who hunt wearing only dick covers and giant holes in their painted faces.
mysticx0 1 year ago
If something worked for their ancestors, is because they did it right, so what's the point in changing? As Jean Liedloff pointed out, refusal to change when it is not needed, maintains the habitat, behaviours and "rules" that satisfy our expectancies and tendencies, to which, through the years, our kind was adapted to. Change puts us in an habitat, creates behaviours and a society, that does not follow our expectancies or tendencies, to which we were adapted too.
Faanat 1 year ago
@Faanat exactly. and my ancestors want to learn actual science and explore space, etc. not sit in 3200bc forever and it worked for them...so you tell me what set of ancestors seriously is going to win out in this.
so while they spread aids like candy on halloween we work to find the cure. thats progress...something these jungle dwellers cant do with all their magic and tree sap.
mysticx0 1 year ago
No you are wrong. They live the same way their ancestors did because it was proved to work through thousands of years of adaptation. Your ancestors, are just a few thousand years old, and you do not follow their way of life, you keep changing, because socioeconomic and ecological conditions force you to, because your system cannot remain the same always, because if not, it dissapears. Those societies who can't be self sufficient and adapt and remain the same as long as possible, tend to dissapea
Faanat 1 year ago
@Faanat It's interesting what you says but i have a different opinion, i think it's the other way round, it's the enviroment which drives human groups to evolve in different ways, i think european geography and climate drived human groups to grow bigger and evolve in complex societies, on the other hand African typical geography and climate characteristics do not allow human groups to grow up bigger but stand like limited human groups (sorry for my english).
WiltatKansas 1 year ago
@WiltatKansas When determined ecological context changes, and human groups see more benefit than cost in doing certain actions in that context, they tend to change, of course. But what we know as civilization, is fairly recent in human 'history'. Due to changes in the enviroment, and non-sutainable human behaviour for one reason or another, humans saw more benefits than costs in adopting agriculture.
Faanat 1 year ago
@Faanat Also human societies do not tend to dissapear but to change assimilating new groups less evolved, maybe the bushmen will dissapear like gropu but his Y-A haplogroup will not dissapear like itself. In fact the bushmen don't live exactly same way that hey lived 50.000 years ago, but almost the same.
WiltatKansas 1 year ago
What I meant, by 'human societies dissapearing' was not that the components of that society (the humans) dissapeared , but that way of living, behaviours, etc... In that way, human societies DO dissapear, all day, every day.
Faanat 1 year ago
Do not keep mixing cultural aspects of different cultures into one, because it shows your little understanding. You do not understand why those aspects of different cultures work like that, what aim they have, how did ithey origin, and you dare to judge it all together, to try and justify your fiath in progress.
It is not a natural occurrence, it is artifficial. The begin and expansion of civilization was determined by certain ecological and economic conditions that made it possible to happen.
Faanat 1 year ago
You are telling a fact, ("Civilization will take over indigenous tribes") and yes, it is true, but only because its way of live (civilization's) it is nos sustainable and it hasn't proved to be right. As Daniel Quinn, pointed out, our civilization is a 'flying' machine falling and falling thinking that is flying, but it doesn't really work for flying. Cvilization will soon keep expanding its totalitarian way of life and destroy our world.
Faanat 1 year ago
@mysticx0 Don't you realise that civilisations only exist by exploiting and enslaving the rest of the world? - All driven by profit-hungry corporations, Big Food, Big Oil, Big Pharm, not by the real needs of civilisation. There needs to be a balance. As for spreading AIDS - didn't Europeans spread cholera to the Native Americans? Your comments seem a little bigotted.

For how long will it be viable for the government to provide for them while in turn they are just wiping out the animals that we need for Tourism?
Plions22 2 years ago
"what does the government benefit in return, nothing?" no you go on to say it yourself -
"animals that we need for Tourism"
The Bushman way of life has been perfectly sustainable for tens, possibly hundreds of thousands of years. If it wasn't for the massive problems in our own culture we would not have to ask the San for anything - we'd still have our own animals.
The problem all boils down to greed - money and more than two children.

ASPRINALARD 2 years ago
You don't understand and you are very ignorant. These people do not want to change their lifestyle and are happy with the way they are living. This cannot be considered poverty either for they do not use any form of currency; they barter. The point is that these people are living how they have lived for generations and generations so instead of being ignorant you should be fascinated with their culture and respect the way they choose to live. Open your eyes.
koreysatter 2 years ago
These people are my people, I know their life and history very well. Don't try to be smart! None of these people want their culture to disappear but they do not want poverty either. No human being would ever opt for that, not today or generations years back. If they had a choice they would have it both ways and that is where it is difficult. So before you insult me, take a good look at yourself and ask yourself in what way is your argument helpful to these people. They need help, period!
ASPRINALARD 2 years ago
If you knew and understood their history, you would appreciate that they do not want to change their lifestyle. They may appear to live in poverty, by your living standards (well paying jobs, health insurance, etc) but they are happy about how their lifestyle. Its what they know and the gorvenment of Botswana is imposing their way of life on them. Its no different from any colonialism.
segatman 2 years ago
No it's you who's saying that. Even in this video they are asking for the improvement of their life. It's just that they want that done in the game reserve. They're looking for better life. The impending worsening of climate change will destroy these people with their culture unless someone helps them, exactly what Botswana government is doing. It's here and in this vulnerable but beautiful culture that the effects of the Western pollution will be painfully felt! How does inaction help?

What world are you living in? How many of them have cars?? How many of them can speak English?? How many of them are educated??
I lived with the San people in the CKGR for a month and trust me they are hunters (this is by no means an insult, its what they do, its what they know, its part of who they are, its their culture!!), they dont go to school and they definintely do not own cars....Maybe one or 2 do have delapitated Toyota's but the majority do not....
tdk251081 2 years ago
Ask yourself, rather, why is the Botswana government hellbent on "relocating" them?? Could it be that the CKGR is full of diamonds and DEBSWANA simply getting rid of them (in the name of relocation)?
They dont want to be relocated, they are happy where they are and Botswana gorvenment simply doesnt care about them.....
tdk251081 2 years ago
U lived with them for a month!! when did u live in CKGR?, after people we relocated...do u know that they use to be school in CKGR? and only grade 1 to 5 we offered there, and students had to go for grade 6 to Dkar...
uanyonoka 2 years ago
i wouldn't think u knew that cause u went there when they were relocated..
do u know that they are not the first people to be relocated in Botswana?
And one thing that i can tell u is poeple in CKGR are informed and have the same number of educated youth like any other village around botswana.

tdk251081 2 years ago
I was there in 2006/2007 and most recently Feb08 (the longest I've been with them was last year)....Xade/Molapo etc villages in the middle of the park....
Yes I know they were relocated, they were being relocated as late as last year!!
My point is they should not be relocated!! Simply because they dont want to be relocated
