My cat just had 6 kittens, and we've been picking them up and stuff. They're just fine, it's not like they were tossing them around or anything violent. They'll be okay. And that one that looks like a skunk is sooo cute!

It seems some of you have never had a kitten. Handling does no harm to them, provided it is gentle. And all the talk of cat moms rejecting their babies is just a superstition. Maybe some wild animals can do it, but not cats.

I've always handled mine gently after they were born. I've even been in the room during the birth.

If the mother cat is comfortable with you, they don't mind it so much. They'll let you know when they've had enough, though.

I think it's all superstition either way (the whole rejecting thing).

We get baby robins every year, and 1-2 years ago a baby fell out of the nest. We picked it up ourselves, fixed up the nest so the little guy doesn't fall out and hurt himself again (the others flew away), and we saw something truely amazing the next day.

Adult robins were walking with the same baby robin the next day (I assume those were the parents), and appeared to be teaching it to fly.

Animals aren't all the same. :3

i must disagree. many kittens, like the one i raised, are handled from birth. i had to keep him warm, he was a crawler so i was constantly grabbing him and pulling him back, you have to hold them firmly when you feed them cause they go spaztic, and you have to stimulate them to make them go potty. besides, at no point in this film where any of the kittens in a dangerous position. the people held them correctly and safely.
