A321 was not feel any stall because FBW doesent let him do this, strong wind is main culprit of GA.Airbus basically is very bad on wind and according his max crosswind speed he is not able to make landing safely, only if pilot takes responsibility during this weather, max crosswind for airbus is 30kts,boeing has limit 40 due to construction and safety standards of an airline, this example is showing us that pilot couldnot controll aircraft horizontally on RCL,and due to gusts he was losing speed
You people don't know what you're talking about. There is no such thing as "stall speed." That is a commom myth among laymen who think that an airplane could stall when it is landing. Totally not true, and, because of modern hydraulics, physically impossible!
I've been flying model airplanes for 4 years and they never stall when I land them and they are simply the same things as a full-size jet except the dimensions are smaller.
I think you are gettin confused. He is talking about and aerodynamic stall which is a loss of lift due to an excessive angle of attack. Not an engine failure.
That's definetly not true, there is a speed, at which an aircraft starts to stall. It needs a certain minimum airflow at the wings to create lift. Below this speed the wings do not create enough lift, and so the aircraft stalls. Physically it is impossible that an aircraft cannot stall during approach and landing, as you just have to reduce speed below the absolut minimum airspeed, and this already can happen in a windshear. You may believe me, as I recently made my gliders licence.
I know that, because EVERY aircraft that is about to touch down (land) IS VERY CLOSE TO ITS STALL SPEED. Furthermore, stall speed is NOT a complicated calculation (for the pilot). The manufacturer of every aircraft lists all of the flying parameters in the aircraft manual, and naturally, stall speed is one of those.
Furthermore, whenever a pilot is being certified for a particular aircraft, they [the pilot(s) being certified] purposely stall that aircraft several times - at safe altitudes - to get a feel for its stall characterisitics.
Last, in this video clip, the pilot did ABORT his highly crabbed landing attempt, late, because his wing tips were alternately wagging up and down, indicating that the aircraft was about to stall out while he was still flying sideways (this sideways flight with wings level is called, crab, or crabbing).
ya that was a very good choice the pilots made. if they tried to land that would have been disatrous. i feel bad for some of the people on the plane that are afriad of them in the first place like me. i know i would have FREAKED OUT
That's why I don't like flying....your basically in a coke shaped craft flying hundreds of feet in the air strapped with jet fuel....an explosive situation.
Aborted landing. Terrible weather conditions. Look at how strongly the wind is blowing. They gave it their best shot and made the correct call to abort at the last moment. Actually shows the pilots were very skilled. And amazing how aircraft can get that close to the ground and still go up again for another try. Those poor passengers though! Very scary for them.
AY PORTUGUSE Piolates are some of the best in the worl TAP AIR PORTUGAL is the onlay airline i fly. ONE YEAR AGO A SMALL PROP PLANE WS ABOUT TO COLIDE WITH A TAP AIRBUS A320 AND WITTH THE PIOLATS WUICK MOUVER HE AVIOIDED THE DEATH OF 280 PASSENGERS WITH FIVE FEET OF SPACE BEtewn them GOD CALL!
That is not a wild landing - it is really shitty piloting!! Wind shear goes up and down - this is a crosswind - tricky - but managable for someone that knows what the fuck he's doing!! This guy does not!!
Yes, he did!!!! He followed procedures and did a "go around. I've done quite a few and some of them are actually exciting!! Sometimes when you enter "ground effect" upon landng the crosswinds can make you really earn your pay!!!!
continuing from my last post. The figure in the FMGS is irrelevant to this debate. I don't question his "piloting" skills - after all he didn't crash. I question his "airmanship" as we all know from history that there are old and there are bold pilots.....but there are no old-bold pilots! In any case he would have failed a checkride from this alone.
tommern89. You seem to have misconstrued my post. Firstly, I did not "know" the wind speed my friend - I didn't intimate that I did! I suggetsed that they were outside limits given the yaw angle and totally unstablized approach - infact they were spectacular which is why the thing is on you tube in the first place. I do not "know" how much fuel he had and I didn't suggest that either! I gave a scenario of how to plan for "inclement" wx!
Thats a trick called crabbing. He had to land in a cross wind, that sucks, but not impossible. Sure, this guy did a crappy job of crabbing, very shaky, but a better pilot would make it easy.
NO - NOT a good pilot!! Looks clearly as though he was attempting it when the cross-wind limits were outside the maximum - so he broke rule number 1! What should he have done? Divert to an airport with acceptable conditions OR delay (hold) for an improvement. What about fuel? Well, he would (should) have read the weather forecast and taken sufficient fuel for just this event. If he failed that then he broke rule number 2 also!!
uhm... STS200: how do you know what wind-speeds ther were in this clip? =) and, how do you know how much fuel he had left (you know that you allways have to type in the fuel-reserve number in the FMS/FMC, right? ^^) I agree, a good pilot would have doen a better job than that, but, BUT he did make the right desition, going arround =)
The technique of landing at an off-centerline angle to the runway in high crosswinds is called "crabbing." It's a necessary technique, although one of the most difficult to pull of. Good thing the pilot decided to abort when his plane started to wobble significantly (I imagine from the strong crosswind trying to bank his plane), otherwise he could have smashed up his wings.
A321 was not feel any stall because FBW doesent let him do this, strong wind is main culprit of GA.Airbus basically is very bad on wind and according his max crosswind speed he is not able to make landing safely, only if pilot takes responsibility during this weather, max crosswind for airbus is 30kts,boeing has limit 40 due to construction and safety standards of an airline, this example is showing us that pilot couldnot controll aircraft horizontally on RCL,and due to gusts he was losing speed

woooow...stall speed...take it from me, its called high wind speed
high wind causes aircraft to shift, making the aircraft unstable
take that into consideration
