C&D as well as Edmunds cites a regular 2008 Passat 3.6 with tip 6 speed with a 0 to 60 of 5.9 secs. Earlier versions with as slow as 6.6 secs..mainly due to laggy throttle responses. A programming flaw corrected by reflashes of the CPU for 06, 07 models, and corrected at the factory for 08's. (I've timed my 08, and it's pretty on the mark with 5.9 secs.) The Euro CC, if it has the R36 300hp VR in it with 7 speed DSG, should match the R36's 0-60 in 5.4 secs. Which would explain the close race.
That said, it's clear the G's driver gave up in both videos long before the videos ended. How do I know? Listen to the chase car's engine. It accelerates aggresively for halfway, keeping up with the G35, but eventually the CC keeps pulling ahead, while the G falls further behind, faster. That would simply never happen in a full on race between these two. (Also, if this is the X as in All Wheel Drive, that would take a little oomph out of it. All wheel drive slows a car a bit (weight and drag)
