I don't know why some people diss The Hammer, he had a great career and yes, he does look worn out, that's what happens when you wrestle for a few decades getting beat up 3 nights a week. He and Ric Flair had a similar ring style.
The match that The Hammer is describing was actually a tag-team match between Flair/Valentine and Jimmy Snuka/The Iron Shiek. Superfly and the Iron Shiek were literally destroying Ric Flair in the ring and Valentine wouldn't tag Flair. Flair's face was probably the bloodiest I have ever seen. Finally Ric got pinned, then Gene Anderson gave his walking cane to Greg. Greg proceeded to try and break the cane over Ric Flair's head 2 or 3 times. The clip of this match is hard to find-it is a must see
@nightvisionmonocular He's always been known as a tough guy outside of the ring. In the league of Wahoo McDaniel and Harley Race. Two guys that looked out of shape but were considered the toughest guys outside of the ring in their time.
I remember them the nite they jumped on Flair.I was a small kid but was an avaid fan.Just have a hard time believing that Flair didn't know ahead of time that was going happen.
Always loved Valentine. Wish that Vince had show cased more of his saddistic side. Problem is you bring in a guy with long blonde hair, long flowing robes, uses the figure 4... You can't out Flair Flair! If Valentine had cut his hair, and switched to a pile driver instead, he'd have been much better off in the WWF.
@zuneloader man I personally would not touch that olay? I couldn't make dime off a chick that ugly looking. But the Hammer was the greatest wrestler who never got a chance to wear single world champ gold
@spewintothis LMAO!! That's one of the funniest comments I've ever read on here about anyone let alone Greg Valentine. He still lokks the same after all these yrs tho.
I remember watching Greg Valentine in the early 1970's when he was wrestling in the Cleveland-Buffalo area. He was only in his early 20's. I consider him to be one of the greatest wrestler of all-time.
I agree. I think that Greg should be in the WWE Hall of Fame. he was an Intercontinental Champion and a Tah Team Champ as well. If Koko B. Ware is in it. The Hammer is way overqualified to be in it. He should have been in already.
@norvusmundi, I agree 100%. Especially as McMahon tries to make his hall of fame the overall wrestling Hall of Fame (inducting Dusty Rhodes who didn't work for him but for a very short while etc.), Valentine ABSOLUTELY should be in. As should Lou Thesz, Antonio Inoki, and Muta, but those are other discussions.
I totally agree but let's be real. Who the hell would have been able to generate heat in a tag team consisting of an Elvis impersonator and an Elvis impersonator impersonator??
Beefcake and Hogan are not related. They played brothers as "Dizzy" Ed Boulder and Terry "The Hulk" Boulder and later Dizzy Hogan and Hulk Hogan back in the day. I've seen old pics of Flair when he weighed around 275.
Alot of these wrestlers are related, if my memory is correct I believe Greg Valentine might be step brother to both Hulk Hogan and Brutus Beefcake. I'm not sure though, I know for a fact Hogan and Beefcake are real brothers
Yeah, if I recall correctly, Flair played defensive tackle for the University of Minnesota and started professional wrestling in 1972. He was much bigger then than he was in his prime.
Greg's taken too many bumps in the head, haha. It wasn't the Andersons it was Jimmy Snuka and the Iron Sheik with Gene Anderson as their manager that was involved in the turn!
a great addition to the history of wrestiling. to bad i couldnt have put in my 2% worth..

And notice how Valentine and Flair's wrestling styles were similar:
1. Both did the figure four leg lock
2. Both would drop like an axed tree when their opponent would beat on them
3. Both were masters at delivering elbow and knee drops
