  • Another easy way of doing that is using a handyman jack and putting the bottom end of the jack close to the bead and rim and jack up your truck to pop the bead from the rim. works like a charm for me!!

  • only one thing i do different I drive my truck on to it with a board in line with the side of rim pops the bead 1st time every time with no damage

hitting it with a hammer and bar looks like it would damage the rim

  • That looks a lot harder than fixing a bike tire ;-)

  • I just uploaded the same video except mine was shot in Kenya Africa. On how to fix a flat tire. It is an interesting cultural piece on the same thing. Check it out my name on You Tube is BourgeoisPhotography

  • a good way to pop the bead is too get a heavy vehicle and put a jack on the sidewall of the tire and the jack on the frame of the other vehicle and go to town with the jack. It works really well we were in a pinch and my buddies dad had the idea it was pretty cool how easy it was!

  • we always make jokes at the shop about, when it whistles the tire is whinning because its dieing

  • Are smaller tires harder? My 13" tires are a BEAR to get off the rims!

  • Dimensions of your tire bars? Look to be about 18" to 2' long? Is that 3/4" round? Not hard to make a set if you have a torch around to heat up the ends and flatten them out and shape them a bit.

  • Hey Thanks for the vid, I saw a excellent set of white walls on vehicle at the bone yard and they wanted to charge me $40 bucks to pop them off the rim. This not including the price of the tires. The alternative was I had to buy the rims and tire for $40 bucks each, get the tires popped off and return the rims for a 11% core refund?!? So now I am going to pop them off right at the yard and pay their $15 ea price for the tires and bail. Thanks again!

  • We did this for so many years, I never even knew what a 'tire machine' was. I just thought this is how you did it...

  • Always make the tire and rim so you keep your wheel balance!

  • but if you put tire into a tank with water you will see the lick more easy

  • use spray

  • last part that you did to totally remove the tire isnt true with all tires i got some 13" and 14" car and truck tires that i wished were that easy they take around 5 mins each for me to do with my two pry bars and spoons

  • my question is when ur breaking the bead instead of using the spoon to break the bead cant u just push down on the tire with ur ur feet to seperate tire from the wheel?

  • Great video

  • this service costs $12.99 for most tires at a national tire and battery

  • THANK U...!!!!. this is the kind of videos everyone should post in you tube. NOT stupid kids doing stupid stuff.

  • Appreciate the video got me thinking I can do that.

  • I reccomend using a spray bottle

  • can anyone say bumper jack lol thats another very effective way to knock the bead down

  • I've read around and have been told that taking a tire off a rim without the machine is near impossible. You've proved them wrong and made this look so simple. Thanks for the video.

  • Very Informative part 1 you got here!

anyways, jsut wondering how large a possibility it is of bending the rim by hammering the spoon into it?

i'm looking to remove my tires to sell to a friend but i want to avoid denting or bending my rim in any way, shape or form.

  • on a steel rim its not very likely that you will bend it however you do have to be careful on aluminum and alloy rims as you can crack the bead surface if you get a little too western with it

  • i see i see. thanks!

i have a feeling i'll probably do more damage doing it by myself. haha

    anyways, thanks for the info!

  • ha ha glad I could help

  • another way to find the leak is the put the soapy watter in a windex bottle then you can sapry the tier withour soaking your shop floor.

  • if driving on it dsnt work take the loder of one tractor and drop io on the rim and take a piece of 1/2 inch iron and put it on thhe other side then use a backhoe bucket to pop the bead of and just keep spinning the tire thats how we do it were im from

  • If you get a real stubborn Bead set a short piece of 2x6" on the tire and drive up on it with another vehicle.

  • Dude, the way you just popped that tire off, makes me wonder why people need to bother with a machine.

  • I have aluminium wheels, if I put a chisel in in there , even if i smoothen it first with a file, i guess it will damage the smooth surface of the wheel where rubber meetss metal and cause a leak later i guess

  • that is true you have to be very careful using this method with aluminium wheels

  • well, I did it with a chisel and it kind worked, put the wheel under the rear of the car, put the chisel in, wood block under end of chisel, put the car jack on top of chisel and under car and jack, takes some time for the rubber to slide off after full pressure is on, (wheel llifts off ground), and jack down and move chisel a bit to side two iches maybe, a few times., and ye , have some wooden strong plate or under wheel or else a stone in ground might press and break rim. it doesnt leak now.

  • I like to use a hand spray bottle with soap and water. Doesn't waste as much and covers a larger area quicker.

  • hey good call thats a good idea

  • where can i get the spoon for breaking the bead ?

  • to be honest Im not exactly sure we've had our set longer than Ive been alive and Ive never seen a set around town

  • I know this is an old thread but I got a set from Northern Tool. We have a store in Minnesota but you can get them on line too.

  • somthing tells me you may have done that before

  • maybe just once or twice lol

  • wer'd u get ur spoons

  • ahh shit thats a god question... Id have to ask my grandpa and that would be hard to do lol

  • Hell, for a dip tank just go get a big plastic bin or if your like Dave you might have on old bath tub laying around, that would work.

  • yeah actually I usually take it to the nearest cattle tank but i absolutely hate really slow leaks they can be a major pain in the ass to find most of the time the dishsoap thing works good enough for me

  • great video

  • when we fix our tractor tyres we drive another tractor over it to break the bead if that doesn't work we use the excavator boom and a piece of wood never fails.

  • yup that does work

  • Good video wagner!!! :)
