@3riversrambler Check my playlists and have a look thru my build series on this one. The decals are tough, but everything goes together well enough I think. It's been awhile since I built this one.
FYI Go to the BOEING STORE web site as they sell premade metal three 1/1000 747, 777 and 787 aircraft---i have a set and plan to build the 1/1000 ST models I have and put them side by side---the 'mythology' (ST) and the "Reality" (BOEING) commer aircraft.
Does anyone think that maybe a light coat of some kind of pearl under the main coat before decals? I thought about doing that before the main coat. Any ideas on how to bring those panel lines out? I want them to show a little better even tho the decals do have the aztec
yup, base white pearl is being done by several people. I thought the decals were a base white, so I got a clear pearl to seal everything in. That session is coming up tomorrow sometime... Just finished the decals an hour ago now.
That has always been my favourite Trek ship! This one looks like it will turn out fantastic with such detailed decals! I can't wait to see what you can do with it!
Maybe I'll knock the vulcan shuttle off before I hit the star wars in the next month or so. I odn't have any other trek kits in house and there aren't any coming out until summer.
Once again got the shaft. Got this kit for $30. Haven't opened it yet, so after the review I'm, hoping it s worth it. Looks a bit tight for lighting tho.
$30 out the door? With tax etc, mine was close to that.
Definitely tight for lighting, but turning it into a glue kit from snap-tite and hollowing certain areas out should be feasible.
I'm doing this one in shut-down mode as all the window decals are black. Painting the engine grills or deflector dish would look cheesy, imo. A 1/1000 drydock would rule for this kit!
Assembly took about 20 mins for a nice fit. No glue. It's painted black and white now. It needs a solid 24hrs to cure. Then decals tomorrow. Will post the results as part 2.
Looks like a beautiful kit.. Not sure how they rate the 'levels', but some modelmakers like Revell tend to go by the number of parts in the kit, rather than the difficuliy of build, which puzzles me a bit! I mean, a kit like the Airfix 1/72 Yak 9 only has a few parts, and is rated as a beginners kit.. but is conciderably more difficult to get to look nice, than say Revells Fw 190 A-8, which is rated level 3.. I know that's two different makes, but you know what I mean!
I got the 1/350 Refit for Christmas, and your absolutely right, the decals for the 1/350 are absolutely phenomenal. I've been working on mine since early Jan, the longest part about the build are the decals themselves...probably longer than painting and assembly combined. It comes with 3 or 4 sheets that are 1'X1' that have nothing but aztec decals on them, and a smaller sheet for normal marking decals. Total time so far is approx 120hrs@70% completion, built straight from the box.
i just got this model to day any tips or suggestions
