@blateach my favorite too, it was my first year wrestling we watched this at my coaches house, as a team, and its when i really fell in love with the sport this year im making my run for the state title
I still stand by what I said, Metcalf gets the job done and I respect that. Both of these guys are great wrestlers, I would have loved to see Caldwell wrestle him again because due to his drive, his attitude IMHO Metcalf would have won.
I do not respect the running and cart wheeling but I am old school, wrestle, shake hands and move on to the next match.
"I don’t want to give my opponent the satisfaction of watching me celebrate, which would make it look like a big deal that I beat him.” -Brent Metcalf.
I love this quote, got it from an article on the front page of themat.com
@Sh00t1stAskLater why hes wrestled at worlds the only thing bigger would be wrestling in london in 2012 he was probly going nuts in his head but he never wabts to give anyone else the satisfaction that beating them ment anything
@Sh00t1stAskLater The reason he doesn't celebrate is because he once said that if he celebrates, then his opponent has the satisfaction of knowing he was a challenge to beat. You have to abide by your own laws...
@Sh00t1stAskLater Na man if he did enjoy it it would give his opponent the satisfaction that he is happy he beat him.... Metcalf knows he should win so he doesnt need to celebrate
@Sh00t1stAskLater “I don’t want to give my opponent the satisfaction of watching me celebrate, which would make it look like a big deal that I beat him.” Brent Metcalf
Shees, what are you guys twelve year olds? Ease up on the Anabol and consider that Metcalf won four MI titles and lost only two college matches. The guy is an excellent wrestler and at strategy also. He was wrestling a physical freak in Caldwell, and one who also happens to be an exceptional technician. A battle of Titans, this.
@riptide: With only 5 seconds to go, Metcalf and Caldwell were restarted. Score 9-6. Metcalf let him up. He should have know Caldwell would run since he already had been running. Even if he miraculously caught him and took him down, he still would have lost (you had better review your first grade arithmetic). Metcalf's best chance at that point, although very slim, was to make an all-out effort to put Caldwell on his back RIGHT FROM THE WHISTLE.
Another thing about Metcalf -- It was not accidental that he was twisting Palmer's knee sideways. The ref knew it when he said, "Clean it up" to Metcalf. Metcalf resorted to similar tactics repeatedly awhile back against Dustin Schlatter. He's a dirty wrestler when against the best.
Metcalf's mainly excels at stamina. He is not a really smart wrestler. He gets into his take-down-and-let-escape mode without regard to the time. Even in a close match he will let a man up with only a few seconds to go in a period even though he has not enough time to do another take down, thus giving away a point. Even in the national finals with Caldwell last year he was in that same dumb mode in the last seconds of the match when his only chance was to try to pur Caldwell to his back
@purposefirst youre an idiot. unless he pulled something out of his ass like ness did with dennis there was no way metcalf was going to get caldwell to his back, so the only logical thing to do was to try and take him down, he actually did have plenty of time to get at least a tie and take it to over time but caldwell back-up and stalled so much that all that time burned out. i wouldn't question his tactics, if you're a smarter wrestler than he is where are our 4 state and 2 Nat'l championships?
Palmer made an impressive run for the championship... I'd take nothing away from him, especially after scoring back points in the Big 10s. On another day, the national champ could've been Palmer... he already proved that it was possible to beat Metcalf soundly. But Metcalf was vindicated in the end in the match that really mattered. Both great wrestlers.
@Weightliftingfreak well thank GOD no one cares what you think. seriously, no one in your life or around it. there probably isn't a single person ever who has ever cared what you think or ever will care what you think. that includes your parents, siblings, extended family and anyone sad enough to date/marry you.
@chroniccrew1234 My school has a joke like that. Near a restaurant where we eat before tournaments (we travel a distance to get to them) there is a pet store, so we joke that losing gets the puppy killed.
I really don't think Metcalf cares who he was wrestling...be it Palmer or Caldwell or whoever...as he proved he is a champion! But I do love the haters...thank you for fueling the Iowa fire!
@Topdog9692 or metcalf wouldve handed him another 19-3 beatdown like the all star duals last year maybe cladwell wouldve had a chance to win if he wasnt such an idiot and hurt his sholder roller blading
if i'm legitimately hurt and signal for injury time and the ref doesnt call it, i'm not gonna lay there and think to myself "why isn't he calling injury time?" i'm gonna try to get the ref's attention. palmer signaled for injury time, but the ref must not have seen it....and palmer just lays there...
@colossalko Thats a load of SHIT. He is wrestling for a National Championship. If he was hurt he should be yelling and moving all his body parts to signal he was injured. HE LOST!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe if Lance would try a shot, he might've made a difference.... but Lance doesn't shoot!! Okay, one real shot with about 30 seconds left. Then in his interview following the match, he whines AND throws his team under the bus!!
Looking forward to seeing Lance getting his ass beat in MMA!!
yeah how about that stall call at the big tens on metcalf when palmer had his legs and wasnt trying to return him to the mat ref must have been pro osu its college there gonna let it go until it really is dangerous
@bigbirdgrappler60 don't you understand the rules? Bottom man can't repeatedly stand when the top man puts in the legs. I guess the problem for Metcalf was that he stood too quickly. He didn't allow Palmer time to stall.
Most. Boring. Match. Ever. Someone call Caldwell!
