  • Ghiaurov had an undeserved reputation. He had a regular voice and was quite unmusical. He never sang the treble, because he had no high notes.

    Also in this performance at La Scala omitted the "cabaletta" of the aria.

    He was always over valued. Why?

  • Saw him in London with Cappuccilli and Roberto Merolla in this. It was a great voice and he was a very nice man. This performance from La Scala was marred by a dreadful mise en scene and Freni was ill at ease in the role of Elvira.
