I had the privilege of seeing this Discovery tour 84 in Brussels and 26 years and hundreds of concerts later, this evening remains so fresh in my memory. A totally underrated musician who deserves to be on top of the pyramid! "The Lake" is indeed a wonderful instrumental. Check out also lesser known albums, such as "Amarok". A masterpiece!
People who disliked this live version should check the album version at all cost. Its my favorite Mike Oldfield tune, no doubt about it, but I have to be honest, this live version doesn't sound too good, also its cut on the end, but its nice to see something so rare. Taurus II is my 2nd favorite Mike Oldfield tune. What a musician, there's too little stuff that competes with this.
This is absolutely great!!!! I too was not aware he had performed this live. I have been putting together a musical and have for a long time wanted to use "The Lake" in its entirirety for the opening of the production. I wish I could contact him somehow to get the OK for this. Also wanted to have "Family Man" and some other of his works in it too. His agent once wrote to me and told me he might be interested but that was ages ago and now someone else manages him. Help!!!
believe me: it was amazing. young simon phillips, oldfield at it's best, westfalenhalle dortmund. it was my 2nd live concert, following ELO with the "time"-thingie.
Good to see this, although 80s video effects spoil it, we really don't need to see a close up of Mike's face covering a large portion of the image 90% of the time - it would be nice to see all the musicians and get a proper feeling for the performance.
he is a real PRO!

Enorme concierto de un no menos impresionante álbum. pedazo de tema este "The Lake" perteneciente sin duda a sus grandes instrumentales.

Amazing to see this live version. Album has been a firm favorite for years but not seen live performance until now. Wish I had been there.

Just found out that Simon Phillips also drummed on tracks by Mick Karn etc., never really knew there was a link, but this has certainly confirmed it!

one of the finest pieces of music ever written.
where did you find this?
is it on dvd?
I had a friend once, who went to see Mike in Odense, Denmark. He is no longer my friend.
