Anyone have or can tell me a good place to look for tutorials on texturing for Lightwave? My modeleing and texturing skills are ...well lets just say they need lots of improvement.
Probably because there are more commercial plugins and support for other packages, plus I would suspect the sort of snobbery you've displayed contributes a bit too.
If you take a look at the open movies produced using Blender, you'll see that high quality is easily achievable. A poor craftsman blames his tools...
Absolutely not. Just because there are more plugins for a program that does not make it more suited to industry. I've seen many animated shorts made in blender, but all you have to do is watch Big Budget Films, and television shows to see lightwave in action.
A poor craftsman blames his tools? So why does Pixar chose to use their own in house proprietary software instead of using a much capable Maya? Because better tools equal a better produced product.
@PeterSatera My point was that it all comes down to flexibility and maturity. Companies use proprietary software in their pipeline because they can design it to meet their needs and adapt it more readily than if they buy it off the shelf. Sure, better tools can make a better product, but at the end of the day owning a copy of Maya doesn't mean a thing if you can't use it.
I wouldn't say Blender is a suitable choice for a big studio, but then again "it's free so it's shit" is hardly fair either.
@HelC001 I never said it's shit. It has alot of fluid tools and a great uv tools that high end applications lack. However I always stand by that if anyone has a close mind about using multiple applications you means well give up, all apps have their own forte and thats what we should recognise, being biased to a single app is ridiculous and shows lack of versatility.
I think everyone should mature a bit and recognise this.
@PeterSatera That last remark wasn't directed at you, rather at people who seem to unfairly judge Blender because it's not of the same pedigree as its commercial counterparts. I fully agree that any studio worth its salt will have a wide range of software in its pipeline (including proprietary software) to cover any eventuality. Likewise, if I was a professional CG artist or someone looking to hire one, I would feel that a strong portfolio of skills is as important as a strong portfolio of work.
@rewii93 Yes, Blender is free. But the learning curve is so HUGE that it makes even the most seasoned of CG veterans cringe. By the time you finally figure out how to use the bloody thing, you'll feel like you went back to college and graduated again!
@dubduhgoods You obviously haven't played alot with it (if any). You probably hited the weird interface and you gave up. If your skills are in softwares and not general knowledge, you are not a CG artist.
Blender might not be the best or a fully functional tool... but it's the best learning tool any can find. With thousands of free tutorials, and a straight forward workflow, it's the best on this face of the earth
Yea, that looks like fluid dynamics on closer examination. Good stuff, lightwave. But the free blender 3d has recently acquired this feature as well, but not in official builds yet.
agreed... you can tell its a grid-based scheme by the voxelization around the emitter at 0:09. Not to mention its pretty tough to get that kind of behavior out of HVs. And it just looks like Dynamite haha..

...holy shit. MAKE A TUTORIAL!
XxXxEMOFAGxXxX 2 years ago
This is super amazing and I have yet to reproduce this in my LW!
I'm thinking its Dynamites fluids.
The only thing keeping it from total photorealism
is the repeating pattern Voxels make are they
are dragged thru a scene.
YOu can see this in the tv show " Dogfights"
any trail or explosion leaves a reapeting patern.
I guess one could put Wind effectors in strategic places.

pls how can i render with m dyname plugin. its always crashing when ever i click on render
chuka5000 2 years ago
I'm in the same boat. Particles work fine, but I haven't found 32-bit versions of Dynamite + LW where the fluid simulation doesn't crash.

Is this actual smoke dynamics calculation? Or is it a bunch of blending sprite particles?
Bleenderhead 3 years ago
Based on the interaction I'd say these are actual voxels and not sprites.

Is this using dynamite?
If so can you email me your scene file? I would love to check it out.
