@abidoful this is how Rachmaninoff sounded way before Kissin was even a sperm cell. This shows how everyone is trying to sound like Rachmaninoff, since he was one of the first recording artists to sound perfect in almost every way. They are not trying to make Rach sound like Evgeny Kissin; it is actually the other way round. Evgeny Kissin dreams, along with many other pianists, of sounding like Rachmaninoff.
@pyjrazor noone plays Rachmaninoff better than Horowitz. Not even Rachmaninoff himself. On few occations, back when Horowitz and Rachmaninoff were friends, Rachmaninoff told Horowitz that he played EXACTLY as he wanted his composition to be played. Rachmaninoff is a mental pianist and a legendary composer. Horowitz however (when on the piano) is completely and utterly unrivaled.
................................... Ofcourse this is a subjective matter and can't be discussed ;)
@06labr How can you HONESTLY say that someone plays a composer's composition better than the composer himself?? That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Horowitz is undoubtedly my favorite pianist, but you can't say he plays Rachmaninoff's works better than Rachmaninoff himself.
greatest pianist of all time? are you KIDDING me? how are you supposed to know that? - have you ever heard liszt play, hummel play, busoni play, etc etc etc? For me no-one plays rachmaninoff better than horowitz, better even than rachmaninoff himself. And again, rubinstein on the modern grand, was probably much better than chopin when playing his own works. As a pianist-composer myself, i know that your own intepretation is not necessarily the right one!
@pyjrazor what about Richter? Type him in to the search box. And Barenboim, Perahia, Radu Lupu of the modern greats. And Lipatti, Cortot, Paderewski of the old greats. And those I listed above - horowitz, rubinstein. And my favourite of all, Claudio Arrau? Type them in, especially Gilels doing Rachamninoff, amazing.
@wagneristhebest true that. but none of them are better than Rachmaninoff as a pianist, STILL keeping in mind that there are definitely different interpretations out there that I'm glad to listen to but through many listening sessions, Rachmaninoff does things in his playing that is culturally and pianistically different from that of everyone. Hofmann, Lhevinne and Horowitz come close and approach this tradition. Listen more :)
As extraordinary as Horowitz and Gilels were, it's hard to say they were better than Rach, perhaps on some pieces :-) It is Rach, Horowitz and Gilels, Moiseiwitsch, Richter, Weissenberg, Argerich and now Jung Lin, IMO. Rach said he preferred Horowitz's Rach 3 - they were best friends in New York for decades. He did say Benno M. was his favorite, and Rach did say Gilels was his true disciple :-)) Links between Rach and Lhevinne, Horowitz are there (NYC, Juilliard - Perahia, others)
if this isnt rachmaninoff playing then the title undoubtedly needs changing as the description does seem to support that it is him playing. If this is not Rachmaninoffs performance then the description and title are totally decieving.
@xper2xper You're correct, it is a piano roll playing...however, there is a CD series titled "Rachmaninoff Plays Rachmaninoff" in which these same titles are played "live" by him. They were made in the late 20's but still have their charm.
i think he didnt played it as he felt it when he wrote it ...because it went on his nervs after he was reduced on this piece for example in america ...

gotta keep listening then :)
Rachmaninoff is definitely the best recorded pianist of all time. If you can name someone better, I'd be glad to listen to him.

This is not Rachmaninoff playing. You need to change the title.

The title is perfectly fine. Just pay attention to the description, that will explain. Hopefully...
If not convinced, then search for "A window in Time" on the web..

@xper2xper Rachmaninoff is indisputably the greatest pianist of all time, not just "his time".
Thanks for sharing, extraordinary recording :-))
