  • Excellent! Musicologists tell us that Foster was not glorifying the Old South and the slave system, because he was a Yankee abolitionist from Pittsburgh. He was trying to humanize the slaves in the eyes of white voters, in order to promote the abolition of slavery. His songs were compared to the play, "Uncle Tom's Cabin," by Harriet Beecher Stowe, whom Abraham Lincoln credited with the advancement of abolitionism.

    I leaned Foster's songs in the elementary school.

    Some of his songs are gentle and others are exciting.

    Very good composer.
