Just picked one up for free but had to put about $400 into it for plugs, battery, brakes and other stuff. Sat in a wet garage for 3 yrs so the underside got kinda rusty but it's still a solid car. Got it runnin' yesterday and runs like a champ after sitting for that long.
sorry your dont beat mine. i bought mine for 850 bucks and it only had 62000 miles on it. clean. it was a floor model car with only 1 previous owner. no wrecks... everything works
i have a 1988 grand marquis and i have a question maybe someone can help me with. my tranny fluid is brown, but should i change it? i have been told sometimes changing the fluid is bad for the trans
also how can i tell if its not shifting into overdrive? the engine sounds like its working hard, but wen i let go of the gas, it doesnt slow down fast as if i were in a lower gear? could it be my engine just needs a tune up?
do not drive the car until you get one. you WILL burn up your transmission, if you haven't already. thats why its brown. its burned. replace it after the new TV bushing and cross your fingers.
i actually found out why my car is running loud....my exhaust pipe is not connected to the muffler; it is split right at the center of the car. so i am spewing out raw emission (i bet al gore and the state love that). lmao. as for the tranny fluid, should i still change it?
i had a 88 grand marquis i loved that car she was dark gray all stock and all luxury big 5.0 efi motor and she ran so good that you could not hear the engine running a few times i almost messed up the starter cause i forgot she was running and turned the key again i miss her she was a big ol lovin tank lol
Sry but i had to correct you... first of all it is a nice car.... but that 5.0 in ur mercury and the 5.0 in the mustangs are a lot different internally first off 85-92 stangs had forged pistons except 86 had flat tops in it.. and they have a different fireing order due to the cam of the H.O. engines different and the stangs had bigger injectors, better flowing waterpump, and shroty headers from the factory.. and the plenum's on the stang have the mass air on the passenger side...
I used a 3 step color restore... I had to first wash the car down with dish soap to get all the grime off... Then bug away cleaner helped get off the left over sap off... Then the 3 step cleaner and polish... I forget the name of the stuff but I know the last coat was yellow and smelled like banannas.
@76granada1 yea i should have used something like cuz i cleanned mine so hard the clear coat came off o well i dont have the car anymore but your car looks good to be as old as it is
It's real good stuff to clean with but the car now that I've been driving it every day has the dull dust on it already from puddles at work and the rail road that goes behind it.. I did however burn off a decent smoke run today some other drivers had me flustered here in Texas... So I eased the brake and hit the gas and the tries roared so easily I didn't realize I was doing it till the smoke and rubber smell came in the window.
Some updates... I just installed a new heater control unit last night and a new thermostat... it was stuck open.. the heat blows once more! Could blow a bit better though hmmm??
i gotta hard time believing that car gets 28 mpg for a 5.0 v8 shit mine only gets 17

it does NOT have a mustang engine. its a lopo. not an h.o.
your dual exhaust is part of a tow package.
its nothing compared to a police cruiser either. the interceptor package adds a lot including suspension and optionally the 351w.
nice box panther though, oh and i think my '88 is better.
