@trvwatson You mean, low budget video, right? This was the 80's, music videos were in their infancy. The video was still secondary to the song itself. Nowadays, the video is more important than lousy music it tries to support. And that's because everyone wants a cut of the pie and over-promotion is the norm. Back then, most promotion was done by radio and word of mouth.
No i meant cheap video--i am an 80's fan, so i know all about cheap videos, didn't say i don't like them, i do----and this is a cheap video--i hate videos today, all flash lighting, overly madeup stars, and out of touch fashion that nobody can afford or copy like they used too, i like cheap videos, one of my favorite videos was Lucky star by Madonna--she spent only a couple of hours shooting and it costs nothing, and she looked like a tramp and the clothes were out of a skip, fantastic.
I agree--and Auto-tune is the biggest superstar on the planet, what a shame it hides behind rubbish singers and sabotages there true voices, i cant even bare listening to modern music in the charts(let alone buy an album) because its auto-tune that takes up all the vocals, did you see Justin Bieber on the X factor 2011---crying shame is all i can say.
co written by john bettis who co wrote human nature with steve porcaro who is drum programmer on this track.also on the tune is toto,s steve lukather guitar plus richard page, steve george (Mr mr) and bill champlin (chicago) on backing vocals! donna sounding very seductive great voice!
heart's version came out on a 1993 heart cd. i remember hearing" finger on the trigger" early 1982 when it was cold and snowy out and i was still in school.
i bought the "state of independence" single when halloween candy was being sold in stores during the Fall of 1982 but i do not know exactly when her 1982 release was in the stores. i honestly cannot remember if i heard "woman in me" in 1982 or 1983.
there is noi excuse for classic vh1 not airing this video. it is gorgeous.
outstanding video but this is before mtv took off in late 1983. donna really knew how to act while making a video. too bad she did not make official videos in the late 1970s like abba did. i felt this was too much of a "womans song" back then but love it now. donna summer's 1982 release was one of the bright spots of 1982 which along with 1981 was a horrible year for pop music in my opinion..
Better than Heart version by far. This is version I remember from that steamy love scene with Patch and Kayla on "Days of our lives". Loved it ever since then.
She just sings it with such passion and love the breathy talking in it too. Very sexy!
this was a good lp but it almost didnt happen if David geffen and his dumb ass would have taken the She Works hard for the money lp .. i bet he kicked his self in the butt or that mistake .. and its hard to see the drama between her and Quincy Jones, but this lp has 2 of my fave donna song Loves in control and state of..
I saw Donna Summer in Atlantic City, it was the best concert. The crowd went, crazy dancing in the aisles. I have seen many performers but i have to say, she was the best.
@DEEDUBB1979 You have got that mixed up, she was 8 months pregnant when recording this ablum and found it difficult to sing. Can you only imagine if she wasn't ! The video came after the birth.
@jokerwildest You're wrong. She had Amanda in August of '82. This album came out in July. Love is in Control was released in June. The album was most likely finished no later than May. According to Quincy Jones this album took about 6 months to record.
@badpappy No jokerwildest is not wrong, Donna herself has mentioned several times about it being hard to sing or record the album, because of being pregnant.
Not true - she was pregnant when this was shot - at the same time as the album photo's were taken, which is why she is shot from the chest up. The album photo's were 'shopped' to reduce her pregnancy bulge.
@jokerwildest@jokerwildest She was not 8 months pregnant while recording. She worked on this album for over 6 months according to Quincy Jones. While hosting the AMAs in January of '82 she remarked that she was already in the studio. Her daughter Amanda Grace wasn't born until August. The album was released in July of '82 and Love is in Control was released in June, so the album was probably finished no later than May.
This song is simply amazing. in every way. The production is impeccable, Donna is like almost magical and the back-up singers....surreal! Her eye contact is...I can't explain it...its like she's talking to me. They don't make music anymore..

@dumbthings1970 This album was originally called THE WOMAN IN ME, then weeks later they changed the name to just DONNA SUMMER. Early copies of it had the former name.
This song is soooo sexy!! Hello, my name is Gus. I get so emotional when I hear this song. I "came out" to this song to my parents 10 years ago. I am a gay man, and have found the "woman in me." I have also found the "rubber fist in me." and the "anal shit-beads." in me.........I'm only sayin'.........
I want to be a kid again... just to appreciate the music, the care free life and wondering what it would be like to being a grown up. This song made me want to know how she felt as a "woman." My mom loved playing her album while we cleaned the house. GREAT TIMES!
Man, I don't believe it! I found this by accident, and it's one of two favorites of mine off of that album, which, indeed is next to impossible to find. However, Amazon has Donna Summer - Ultimate Collection (Import), which is unavailable at the moment, but it looks like they're working on getting it, and it has this song.

ANY woman in the world who truly loves LOVE, who is loved, who knows how to love and surrender to love wholeheartedly, body & soul, can identify with this immortal song, with the divine and deeply spiritual voice of our amazing Donna... she is a fairy goddess! Thank you
This is one beautiful piece that got lost in the shuffle when it came out. She has a great voice that was wasted on disco for too long. She is much better looking here also than when she was doing disco.
This was one of her best songs and it didn't get enough air play in its day. She is so pretty, too. Even though she never felt comfortable doing the sensual/sexy music, she pulled it off pretty damn well.
beautiful song, beautiful singing; and what a pleasure to see an elegant video with long shots instead of the frenetic 1 second cut shot editing of most contemporary videos.
I've always loved (Donna Summer's performance of) this song way, wa-a-y too much! ...Always have to fight my urge to sing along! (It just doesn't sound good coming from a guy - LoL!!!)
i think this was penned by either richard page and john lang(mr mr),or john bettis,i may be mistaken.sensual tune with steve george and richard page mr mr and bill champlin backgrounds, steve lukather guitar, steve porcaro drum program, and david paich keyboards.nice!!

Donna Summer ranks #6 in worldwide record sales of 178 million sold from a female solo artist. Donna rocks and rolls.

This was one of her best songs and it didn't get enough air play in its day. She is so pretty, too. Even though she never felt comfortable doing the sensual/sexy music, she pulled it off pretty damn well.

This song was written by a man. Takes on a different meaning when you listen to the lyrics

beautiful song, beautiful singing; and what a pleasure to see an elegant video with long shots instead of the frenetic 1 second cut shot editing of most contemporary videos.

Some say the anthem for women is (the estimable) "I am Woman" or (the utterly horrible) "I will Survive" ..... yuk !
DONNA brings her soul and beauty to this piece in a way that make the other two LAUGHABLE.
Plus, she's STILL a TOTAL FOX ! ! !
