I heard about John Callahan's death today and I felt very sad. His cartoons weren't really to my taste and I disagreed with some of his views but I admired him for his resilience and his sense of humor. And I really enjoyed reading his memoir. He was a tough guy, a survivor. I was probably out of line when I said he was unlikeable; I was just put off by some things he said. I'm sorry he's gone.

That's a bit harsh, but I agree that he doesn't have much talent as a singer or musician. Maybe it's just another creative outlet for him. I hope he doesn't take it too seriously. As for Callahan, here's what I think about him. I don't much care for his cartoons. I liked his first memoir. I feel compassion for him, but he doesn't seem that likeable. And he definitely has a mysogynist streak.

@cynthiacher - Surely just getting up in the morning to face another day when you're quadraplegic, is inspiring. I thought his 1st memoir was brilliant, first of all I saw a documentary about him, I felt so much for him, his life of abandonment and loss. His cartoons are fearless and very funny, and I never see him as a misogynist. Interesting to read your views though.
