@palak01 Yes, you overexpose the sky. Work around: shoot with a tripod. Use the right exposure for the buildings for one picture, then use the right exposure for the sky in the second picture. Then just exchange the overexposed sky with the proper one in Photoshop.
Is the exposure only locked for one frame. how do you unlock the exposure. do you have to keep your finger on the exposure button if you wanted to take multi shots of same exposure. thank you for your video but you do not give very much info.
Great Video! I was curious to know why the exposures came out differently on the buildings if the camera settings in the "underexposed" image at 1:21 and the "Auto-Exposure Lock" camera settings at 1:57 are both at shutter speeds 100, f/5.6 and iso 100. I wasn't sure what I was missing. Thank you in advance.
I've been trying to figure this out for a month now. I've been reading "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson and he talks about this technique quite often, but I just didn't get it. Now I do! Thank you.
Very useful tip, now I finaly know what's the point of using this button but I also prefer the "under-exposed" shot from this video. That's why most of the time I shoot at -1/3Av or -2/3 cause the camera tends to make everything too bright.
@ 893165009--the XTi is actually below the XSi (and older). It has less megapixles (10.1), slower continuous shooting (3 fps) and a smaller screen (2.5 in). Maybe you were thinking about the 50D or Rebel T1i (500D).
Nice vid, however I have a problem with the AE lock feature when taking panos, the lock doesn't stay locked long enough to let me take all the shots I need, after a second or less the star goes away while I'm repositioning the camera and the exposure gets a new reading, any idea?
Simple, note the aperture and shutter speed that you're reading in auto mode, then switch to fully manual mode (M on the top dial), apply those settings and they will stay.
the date on the pictures..i didn't get that either , although i guess it has to be done in the canon's software and not through the camera..but i could be wrong. I haven't figured it out yet .
This is a great explanation though ! Helped me alot! Tnx!
I just got the amazing Canon Rebel XSi. Very nice camera, but I cannot or I don't know how to print the date on the pictures. Can somebody help me with that please ? Thank you !

Question - While it exposes the bldg's correctly after you lock the exposure. Wont it overexpose the sky when I reframe it ?
How do I avoid overexposing the sky in this case ?

Great video, but am I alone in preferring the under-exposed picture in this case? I think the extra detail in the sky gives a really cool look.

xxMcQuackxx 3 years ago
yeah xsi has a 12.2 mega pixel cmos sensor
and 3 inch screen
but xti is a good camera
alienspy12 3 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
XTi is one step up above XSi I think it has 15.8 Mega pixels.
