  • For people asking about this CPU's relation to Windows 7 and Core i7, let me clarify:

-1 its not like the Core i7 because of 2x the cores and 4 QPIs not just one.

-2 Windows 7 will not support anything more than 2 sockets.

-3 This CPU is a MP Server CPU and NOT an ordinary desktop CPU.

-4 You need the less-graphics-capable Windows Server 2008 R2 to get the results they are getting (sorry for gamers).

-5 This is NOT targeted to consumers (Windows can't address more than 192 GB which isn't enough)

  • I am in the design stage of my new line workstations and from what i can see the xeon 5500 is just a re-named corei7. If we develop today on a xeon its aimed to run on future corei7-8-9 etc processors. How can we get that high end multithread multicore supercomputing in a workstation for kernel and graphics development and superfast compile times?

  • Let me get this straight.... when they mean systems available in 2010 they mean servers not PC'S?

If that is the case screw that im buying my i7 processor now.

If it means PC's i'll just kick back and relax till 2010

  • yes, this processor is for servers only and then servers with 4 or more processors.

  • Is the Xeon Intel Procesor gonna be in the Windows 7 Version? and is it gonna be better than the i7 Intel Procesor?

  • At 0: 17 Intel run out of laptops ;D.

  • Wow 8 cores with hyper threading and 24 mb cache super processor :)

  • its nothing compared to whats planned in the next 5 years, intel are talking about 65 watt chips, the size of your thumbnail running at 1.2 teraflops.

  • One day..a giant single chip will run/own the earth...and it will the Intel name on it..lol

  • only it won't be giant, it'll be extremely tiny ;)

  • This would be cool for normal PCs too.

  • can I use this in a normal gaming pc?

  • hmm hey Younowkoed, did you get your answer about this new chip if can be used for normal pc gaming? because i want to know too!

  • Nope, but I dont think it can tbh.

  • yeah..kinda sad =( what about the 6-core one?

  • Never even heard of them lol

  • ohhh LOL so they may have been replaced by the 8-core ones...aww mann, i got really happy when i knew about this, and got SAD AND ENRAGED when is there a possibility not to fit for gamers arrgghhh, but Younowkoed..i won't lost my hopes...there will be a huge motherboard for this new chip! a 8-core chip only for servers...oh there are really an amount of servers out there -_-'' that are willing to pay for about at least €1300 for this...kinda selfish from intel =( well..stay cool ^^

  • I think that theyre extra durable, theyre meant to run 24/7/365

  • yes, it might be like you're saying...and about us, home users...who want a good game with a veryy extreme super processor? we can't upgrade for example from i7 975 to this??? thats frustrating....

    take care YNKOED ^^

  • thanks =) you too.

  • ufcourse u can.. but for what? i7 is morethan enough for gaming pc

  • not if we are talking about raytracing, physX or RTS. In RTS there is no limit for useable the cpu-power.

  • Jeeze, I wish I had an awesome computer like that... My laptop's screen is broken, so I have to use an external one, and it has low memory.

  • nice...

  • lol at 0:17 intel got jacked

  • rofl... some one stole their laptop... its ok they have their own form of lojack!
