jst absolutely lyrically outstanding!! He can go from talking about lusting for female goddess perfection to referencing Nietzsche (in the 'Zarathustra' line) to his own passion and desire for a simpler life........what else can i say but, 'Roxy I wouldn't change you for another girl.'
Great to see this. I saw Roxy in Oakland, Calif in 1979 and Ferry's voice was richer and deeper with a killer version of this song was the ultimate -- with a better ending. This show was broadcast on the radio and became an Italian bootleg called Song for Europe. Well-worth finding.
I heard this on "How I Met Your Mother", and, like I always do when I love a song, wrote down as many lyrics as I could and promptly Googled it. Some of my favorite songs have come from random radio plays, or in this case, TV. I give them major kudos...
Yeah. Ted Bundy. Who should have been unleashed on the cast, crew, writers and producers of that AWFUL show before they reached adulthood and a career.
@MsMagicalCat it is fantastic, isn't it?...i'll bet one the best things you've ever seen or heard..it's pretty amazing. a lot of their performances are like this..WHY ISN'T THIS BAND IN THE ROCK HALL OF FAME?
@801liveable Totally agree there with you my friend.I have moved to a place+have Brian Ferry living very near me+he's often on the beach by my house lol
Mr Ferry is most def the quintessential English gentleman ,elegance never goes out of fashion!.Yep..,She Sells +In Every DreamHome A Heartache are quite amazing in every way too
.I'm a total Brian Eno freak, probably have more of his stuff in my collection than anything else,I can't stand most of the dross people are into today .Cheers Sophie:)
@MsMagicalCat so you live close to BRYAN FERRY? about the closest i ever got to him was the 5th row at a show. i have seen him and ROXY MUSIC several times. yeah, ENO, is something.i think he's funny as hell."ANOTHER GREEN WORLD" is one of the all-time best and the "GREAT PRETENDER" is my favorite song.i also like the "TRUE WHEEL"..."we are the 801". by the way i'll be seeing BRYAN FERRY in CLEVELAND in about a week.nice communicating..i'm sure will talk again.take care.
@801liveable wow..Another Green World is one of the most listened albums in my flat !! lol..I am from Liverpool originally+moved to East Sussex (about 50 mins from London) about 9mths ago
,I live facing the English Channel right by the beach.Brian Ferry has a home down here+is often on our beach..Dave Gilmour,Robert Fripp+until he died Gary Moore literally lived around the corner..lol.I really hope you have a great time at the concert..have a beer for me!!!!
@MsMagicalCat just came to my mind.ROBERT FRIPP and ENO, have had some great team-ups.the landmark "NO PUSSYFOOTING AROUND" comes to mind.earlier i said ENO, is funny as hell...i love listening to him talk he is a genius."BEFORE AND AFTER SCIENCE" and "TAKING TIGER MOUNTAIN BY STRATEGY" are both brilliant.from those albums..KINGS LEAD HAT..METAL WAYS..BACKWATER..CHINA and the aforementioned THE GREAT PRETENDER and TRUE WHEEL are all great. turned on to ENO and FERRY in college 1973.
@801liveable It's really great to meet someone with most "excellent" taste in music.around these parts too !;)
Yes I agree, Eno,the guy is a humble, intelligent man,yet quietly influential to many genres in modern music.Sadly I missed the arts festival he hosted down here in Brighton last summer,it happened just before I left Liverpool;( Hope he hosts another one as this wee town has some great music/arts events.I'm really into ambient music these days to chill out+esp paint tosoothes my soul;)
This persona of Ferry's parodied the self-absorbed minds of the jet-setting mall rats that would take up so much of our time in the FUTURE FUTURE FUTURE!!!!.
Can't you imagine some drunken trust fund baby stumbling after Paris Hilton spewing well educated coke spun words of love and regret as she splits with the Maloof Bros?
Eeeee.... there was a couple of Yorkshire born Trini-teens (?) in the frontt row at the Leeds University "Stranded" Gig 1975.... my kid-brother and I (aged 17)....
Thanks for the fabulous soundtrack to my teen years Roxy...
@tmc515 Our cultural make over in the 60's(jeans long hair ,beads etc.was on the path to becoming a new "establishment-this Continental persona of Bryan's was counter-revolutionary and very astute move as far as promotion of the band as a whole goes. Can you imagine what the genius of the late Cobain could have done over time by going against grunge type casting ? He might still be here & I mean that w/ all due respect folks...
The way you define the song in relation to a common sitcom tv show puzzles me. if that's how you found it, i could understand that. i appreciate the footage. :)
I'm hearing this song for the first time, it's so good! Every music shop I've looked in here (Perth), doesn't have many Roxy Music cd's :( Only Avalon, and best-of's
We understand poju2. Your English skills don't matter, loving the song is all that really does. Preach the gospel of Roxy Music to your teenage friends! :)
When this song was in How I Met Your Mother episode "Milk" I kind of falled in love to this and I have been listening this band since then and I am only 16 so don't say that young people doesn't appreciate old music. And I am sorry about my bad english skills but I hope that even some of you understands.
great change, the interpretation of the song to start with is completely different to the end. Love the use of it in 'Milk' the episode of How I met Your mother
I followed them for 3 shows in a row in 1975. They were actually very tight and practiced. Bryan performed the songs exactly the same way each night, mannerisms and all. It was just like this video!
