  • Que lindo sonido que tienen estos muchachos

  • MMJ is the greatest American rock band since CCR.

I would say The Band but they were Canadian.

  • @mshartz5 the best North American Band.....THE BAND....the guys in the band were both Canadian and American...I'd say we all lucked out wouldn't you????thats just a Canadian perspective and this is my favorite song from Rick Danko and Robbie Robertson...great duo

  • My favorite classic rock band (The Band) with my favorite contemporary bad (MMJ) makes me feel so great.

  • STan this was a good coice :D

  • This is a great cover of this song, very true to the original. The Band was one of the greatest bands EVER!!!

  • Thumps Up if TVD brought you here! :)

  • @TheMegajr Mee too :D

  • This is a nice version and I would love it on its own if I had never heard Rick Danko sing it first. The Band, Last Waltz version is just the ultimate one for me!

  • @ozmaof827

I am a huge fan of both bands. While nothing can replace the original...this is one of the few covers that does justice to the original.

  • Sounds like the greatful dead....

  • this is my favorite the band song and this cover is amazing

  • I love The Band, and i really like My Mornig Jacket, so i must say this is by far the best cover of this amazing song i have ever heard

  • Simplicity is Bliss......

  • HEY I'm gonna go around to EVERY my morning jacket and post a comment or 7 about american dad! im also going to make generic comments that arent funny anymore, here i go...

    THUMBS UP FOR STAN

7 PEOPLE DONT LIKE AMERICAN DAD

youtube d-bags make me smash my face on the ground

  • Comment removed

  • i found the band because i saw amercian dad ! :)

  • a rare thing- a fateful cover

  • @theblahman what do you mean by that?

  • @jasonnwest this is a cover of The Band, whilst I still prefer Ricard Manuels singing, this is a rather respectable cover, others would have fucked it up, I was here to hear Band covers not because of American Dad,still really like MMJ, and did see that episode, but was already listening after Jim James did a version of Goin to Acapulco on the Bob Dylan bio, another great song that the Band also played on for the original

  • @theblahman sorry I typed Richard Manuel instead of Rick Danko, whoops

  • @theblahman sure, i know about those covers and Dylan and the Band, but how is this cover a "fateful" one? Just curious about your choice of word. I think this is a great cover; i prefer it to the original (yet Danko DID sing it better, especially in the Last Waltz)

  • @jasonnwest in the way that this was great music, and its good to see that this music still has an audience today, I Think MMJ have kept all the elements of what made the Band great and didnt thinker with the style to much, that could be a bad thing, but theres so much energy here and the vocals are great that it has led me to call it a fateful version, to the sound and the spirit of the original, giving it a platform for new generation of music lovers to appreciate instead of a butchering

  • This song makes me feel like this world is not bad at all :)

  • awesome band! just got into them tonight watching a storytellers on them. thank god i came across them. new favourite band now, along with raised by swans.

  • I found this band in American dad today :D

  • btw, i live in and love KY, usa

  • Read all the comments. i LOVE y'all. Good and bad. My Morning Jacket obviously loved the song and the Band. I love you, MMJ. thanks

  • Ohmygod, ohmygod, ohmygod ... this is a monster cover of my favorite Band song of all time.

Dammit, who's chopping onions in here??

  • this is just the best. dare i say almost better than the original?

  • @jloffredo1 Dare you don't!

  • and the sunnnn dont shinnnnnnneee

  • I gotta say, they smoke one this one. Love the guitar tone, and I think the vocals would do danko proud.

  • That made 6 mins feel soooo long but at the same time at a blink of an eye

  • Well, if Rick Danko was still with us, he would be honored to have such a great cover of The Band's original, RIP Rick Danko...

  • Rick Danko could chop this little harry bitch up and snort him. DANKO!!!

  • @jucytree1

Yeah, no doubt Rick could do that. But I bet he'd rather just onstage and sing along. This is really, really good.

  • Amazing! You guys are the TRUTH!!!!!

  • Good Morning my jacket, I got a feeling that it's gonna be a wonderful day

  • YEAH THANK YOU STAN SMITH YOU ROCK DUDE ¡¡¡¡¡

  • a fantastic collection and much-needed coverage of this band. this disc is full of these kinds of gems; have to say this was my favorite moment. i've heard levon likes this too....can't take that away.

  • es mui bueno MY morning jacket el mejor

  • great cover

  • Fucking amazing.

  • This is amazing.. except for the drums. so inappropriate. The hard rock drumming style with its really heavy right foot and driving tempo takes away from the song completely and for me, basically ruins it. Levon's drumming is much more delicate, laid back and emotional.

  • @whitestboyalive1 your fucking nuts

  • I don't know how much i'm into them doing it EXACTLY like The Last Waltz version. It's kinda like, well maybe I might as well just put on the last waltz version. haha. Still pretty cool though

  • @Mackers2317 Dude this Band is the Future Jim James isa Musical Genius, and yes they are inspired bty The Band, if you checked these guys out check out Buffalo Killers, Black Keys, The song is the song last waltz version or Northern lights Southern Cross

  • @kidaaa0 The Black Keys are the shit. And I think I like that their music is on TV and in movies all the fuckin time but I'm not certain. It's a bit of an epidemic

  • Jim James voice is like orgasim in ur ear

  • if you guys like the band version then check out sip the wine by rick danko

  • both versions rock my world

  • Comment removed

  • i listen to this song everyday

  • such an emotional song... the original always made me teary-eyed, and so did this one. I'd say mmj succeeded in this.

also love how the sax solo is note for note with garth hudson's original!

  • I like this version more than the original

  • My Morning Jacket should release an entire album of The Band covers

  • MMJ reminds me of like a new version of Pink Floyd and the Beatles a lil bit. but mostly Pink Floyd but other than that they are exceptionally amazing. Jim James and the rest of the band congrats. your music has actually caught my eye. an usually all i listen to is Heavy Metal. two thumbs up 4 yas

  • @seanamadrid yeah agreed, i generally listen to things along the lines of born of osiris and veil of maya, any djent type groovey metal but this band has definately caught my eye as well.

  • @seanamadrid I was just thinking that earlier.. about them being like PF. Like way back in their psychedelic days. Minus all the psychedelic stuff

  • i cried

  • They sound like a 70s band...I love that sound!!!!

  • I love The Band, and I love MMj, and this is the only song off of the Endless Highway album that I felt did The Band justice. All hail Jim James and his musical brilliance. MMJ really is the best band going today.

  • okay! best song ever. Hope they play this at Bonnaroo! Would make the experience that much better.!

  • Thank you Stan SMith! 8D

  • @UltimasIsland LOL I Heard of My Morning Jacket from that show too and decided to check them out.

  • @UltimasIsland lol hell yeah

  • @UltimasIsland LOL thats how i found this band too ! lol i love jim james !!!!

  • I love The Band, I love MMJ and this version so much. Why does it sound like it was recorded by putting a radio shack microphone up to a stereo speaker?

Really bad quality, 153,000 people listening to this seems depressing. Can anyone tell the differnce between real music files and crap anymore?

  • They are making their new album in their hometown. Jim must live by my house b/c I have seen him once already at Heine Bros. Coffee and once before last year at a mountain top removal picnic.

  • nasty cover.

  • I cant believe 6 peope disliked this - mad and silly people share this world with the enlightened

  • I love "Lonely Suzie" and "Stage Fright" by the Band.

  • I'd never heard of them before this song and they sound mighty nice. I'll check out "My Morning Jacket" Damn nice sound with "It Makes No Difference"

  • My Morning Jacket makes a difference!

  • Very excellent cover of the Band, which almost nobody should ever try to do!

  • i partyed with Rick. He was m" nigga !

  • It makes so much sense that these guys rocked Levon Helm's Midnight Ramble last month. A BRILLIANT version of this song!!! I agree with a previous poster that Rick Danko was not of this earth, but MMJ do this song proud!!!

  • listen to the band's version from the last waltz! but i also have to say that mmj's version is fucking awesome! rick danko would be proud!

  • really good !!

  • they also sound a lot like Neil Young

  • I just saw them play this at Terminal 5 last night. Had never heard it before, but I was blown away!

  • gosh this band reminds me of the music of the 90s and 70s :). love themmmmm !

  • mmj rules. the band rules. this shouldnt need any comments.

  • LOVEthisSONG!!!!! :D

  • Such a moving song, and Jim just makes it that much better...

  • A mix of Janis Joplin's band ( Big Brother & Holding Company) and ColdPlay

    I like it.

  • American Dad Brought Me Here...

    and i thank them

    cause they are AMAZING<3

  • @mylittlemopony same here

  • @tontonseba as goes for me lol.

  • Whose singing on this?

  • @meteoritelight Jim James

  • @rayganj9 Yim Yames.

  • if you like this, listen to "Dr. Dog"

    they're a big fucking deal.

  • pure mimicry simply doesn't get the job done, espesh for a band with MMJ's capacities. I'd like to have heard them interpret the song rather than try to duplicate, however successfully, the Last Waltz version.

  • come on guys mix it up a little eh?

  • my morning jacket does some great covers.

  • Best cover of The Band I ever heard! Wow

  • Kenz you forget Tar was there too and I also got their autographs on a Last Waltz album cover ......

  • such a bad ass cover.

  • this was a perfect match...just like when Radiohead covered Neil Young's "On the Beach."

  • man, this sounds exactly like The Band's original. wish there was a video.

  • AWESOME thanks

  • jim james is a badass

  • If bands didn't do covers, how would anyone else ever get to know the music that came before? Elvis covered Black Blues songs and brought the music to young white kids, Beatles, Stones, Zepplin...all the great ones covered songs.

As long as the cover band stays true to the tune like MMJ is doing to this Band song....then the spirit lives on for another generation to enjoy....

  • A fabulous cover of one of my favorite songs of all time!

He caught the passion of the song perfectly.....

  • nailed it plus some....

  • REACT

    Pen is position opinion

  • @AlexanderD10 amazing show too

  • this is such a great cover! My morning jacket never disappoints

  • watch full okonokos in my channel!!

  • Great version of an old time classic of my alltime favorite band. Vocals and harmonies are fantastic. Just a little heavy handed with the drums thats all.

This has to be one of the best rock & roll love ballads ever written.

  • Almost as good as The Band's. Very nice

  • @captlechuck haha i wouldnt go that far..it is sick as fuck though!

  • the version with them and eddie vedder is unreal, no ones compares to eddies vocals

  • @enigmatical102

    Except Jim James'.

Hear Jim live and you will be blown away as the earth shakes below your feet

  • @brewskhee i have a tape of jim before a show signin its totally awesom and he has the voice of an angel.

  • except for yim

  • Impressive. You guys should go to talentwatch net. More music fans need to check you out!

  • This is really fantastic.

  • Absolutely nailed it.

  • Not as good as the original, but a spirited attempt

  • my morning jacket is like a modern day version of the band, it makes sense for them to cover this song and i wouldn't be surprised if they took on some inspiration from the band when they were first starting out

  • That would make you a necrophiliac. Sick fuck.

  • Outstanding cover! Fantastic!

  • The guitarist nails Robbie's guitar tone

  • OOOpsss just played this 10 times in a row at a bar.....DO it TO it!!

  • Everyone's Canadian except for Levon Helm. He's from Arkansas.

  • Fabulous version - I don't even know who My Morning Jacket is, but this cover is terrific.

  • :O wow. My Morning Jacket is amazing. My favorite band.

  • Indeed it is. You must seek out more MMJ.

  • The Band's version of this song is one in only a handful of songs that put chills down my back. This version gives me chills too.

  • Wow, solid cover!

  • The Bands music just cant be covered, especially this one. Theres no point.

  • I think all music should be covered, keeps it fresh. Some covers should never be done tho'. Don't mind this one. Would love to hear a woman like Maria Mckee try one.

  • U just contradicted yourself.

  • yeah ....i did but i was meaning something like madona doing american pie.

  • "The Bands music just cant be covered"

Are you kidding me? The Band is one of the most covered classic American rock bands of all time.

  • Im not debating that, im saying it shouldnt be done. Very few bands ever pull off covers of The Band well, its a very difficult thing to do so i think that in most cases it shouldnt be attempted.

  • Should not be attempted? What if the band were together today? Should they play it since it obviously wouldn't be as good as they were 30 years ago?

BTW: Mimicking/copying is the greatest form of flattery. I would want people to cover my stuff.

    And this version ROCKS.

  • Oh yea. I also heard a bluegrass The Band cover band, and they could have been as good if not better. Its awesome to hear your favorite songs played in different styles. Not to mention the fact that we will never hear The Band play these songs again, so we must trust local live bands and great bands like MMJ to keep them alive and fresh. You wouldn't go apesh*t at a concert of your new favorite band rocking out some of The Band's music? That's hard to believe.

  • The Band was Canadian.

  • lol you're right. I forgot. :)

  • pretty good. wish i could come as close to danko as think guy does. danko really wasnt of this earth tho.

  • @PCPrabbit Danko is incredibly underrated..honestly my favorite band singer and Im a pretty huge fan..

I gotta check these guys out now..the lead guitar here Certainly does robbies tele justice..very impressed with his stylings..Endless Highway sucked besides this and Gomez, they almost were able to get Garth's work down...My God the guitar on this track its like JR Robertson himself layed it down

  • @DBprep8 Danko's voice has always sent shivers down my spine. "When You Awake" from "Before the Flood" leaves me speechless.

  • @PCPrabbit , i smoked a joint with Rick Danko & Levon Helm backstage. I drank Budweisers with them and ate their sandwiches and food spread. I also got their autographs on a Last Waltz album cover

  • Comment removed

  • @k3304 wish i was old enough to have seen them live. good stuff.

  • The Last Waltz version can't be touched but this is as close as I've seen.

  • shouda left this one alone....seems empty without danko.

  • does anyone know if thats jeff coffin on sax?

  • Love the cover. Only reminds me that The Band is what I'm thinking about when I'm in bed with my wife.

  • I'm thinking about your wife, too.

  • If you can check out Ian McNabb version (Icicle Works) - beats al hands down

  • Somewhere, I know Rick Danko is smiling down on this. However, no one could sing this song like he did.

  • Fucking outstanding tribute to my very favorite song by The Band!!!

  • I think this cover strikes a good balance between being unique and staying true to the source.

  • Wow. wow. wow. That was a stunning cover. Can't remember a better cover.

  • Comment removed

  • 25000th viewer. Woo for me.

  • great cover of a classic song, they do The Band justice with this

  • nice to see new artists pay tribute

  • mmj straight rips everything

  • Goddamn this is awesome...if only we could throw Danko's voice and Robertson's guitar part we would have a supersong

  • no kidding

  • first time i've ever left a comment, but this must be one of the best covers in a while! Stand Free!

  • nice job

  • Jim James is no Rick Danko but he does a pretty damn good job. The lead guitar is dead on Robbie Robertson though.

  • it's fantastic, almost note for note

  • I just became a My Morning Jacket fan! Very WELL FUCKING DONE FELLAS!!!

  • I don't like the drumming in this, aside from that, this is a great cover.

  • Sweet, yeah!!!!
