Will the new digital odometers read 1 million (it looks like there's room for one more digit on this odometer), or will they stop/start over after 999,999?
I emailed the Toyota dealer (I drive an 02 Camry) asking this, and they said that when the odometer reaches the maximum number of miles, it will stop. They didn't say what the maximum was (I guess they didn't know).
General Motors is going to offer a Diesel Chevy Cruze for sale in the United States in 2013. I plan to buy the first one I can get. I have almost $4,000- worth of points on my GM credit card that I can redeem on a new GM product.
I have been to South Korea and drove a Cruze diesel on vacation and loved it. I got right at 50 mpg.
Hey K5ING, I just updated a thread at TDIClub informing those folks that you hit 400,000. It was a thread asking if anyone had hit the 200,000 mark yet (from years ago). Happy driving!
well, that makes me feel good,my 94 golf only has 240000 on it,a few dings and drips here and there, but other than that, still a tight little car.i stay on top of oil changes, never drive it or brake hard and like a lady,i treat her gentle.
That's great!!! I have a friend of mine with over 660,000 miles on his Jetta. That's over 1 million km. Yours will make it. If it has that many kms on it, you must be doing something right. Keep it up!
And I have a 2003 that has 384 000km. I do 300km a day (2 times 147 km). That's how I do that much mileage. Only highway. Cruise control at 67 mph. Standard original clutch on both. Original engines on both Jettas too. Too bad I can't send you a link for a picture of both cars lol.
That's not exactly true. Most of those miles were put on in the five years (2001-2006) that I was doing courier work. My route was 400 miles per day, or 100,000 per year! I used my van for part of that time, however, so that's why I don't have over a half-million on it now. I loved the look on the dealer's face when I showed up for something with a two year old car with 200,000 miles on it!
@tur13ulence Of course I have. I've done about 6 timing belt jobs on it in fact, the latest one just about one thousand miles ago. TDIs are very intolerant of neglected maintainence. The oil gets done every 10K, fuel filter every 20K, and the air filter every 30K.
@k5ing There's nothing about the transmission in the description text. I thought it's manual. The reason same clutch lasted must be the vehicle's light weight. Automatic Beatle TDI's for some reason don't last.
@Hesam0000 I meant in the comments section. There are multiple mentions of the fact that I'm on the original clutch.
As for VW automatics, you're right. They are all crap. BTW, Beetles, Golfs and Jettas are identical cars under the skins. They are also pretty heavy for small cars. The MkIV ones like mine weigh in at about 3,000 pounds. For comparison, a 2001 Ford Taurus weighs around 3,200 pounds and is a much bigger car.
@Spyster007 Congratulations! Yours has more miles than mine. How about posting some pictures of it? Most car owners brag about how fast their cars are. TDI owners brag about MPG and their miles. Good job!
Hey guys, I recentley bought a VW Golf 4 1.9 TDI, and it has 240.000 kilometers. How long will my car last? Im just a student, so I wont drive that much.
That's only on the MkIII cars (until 1998). The MkIV Jettas and Golfs (1995.5 - 2004) go until 1 million kms, or something over 620,000 miles. The New Beetles will go to 1 million miles because their cluster is a bit different.
Diesel fuel isnt a solvent, meaning when it enters the engine waiting to be compressed and used for combustion power, the diesel fuel doesnt wash away the oil on the Cyl walls, meaning less friction, and Diesel actually is a additional Lubricant! If Maintained properly, can Reach 1,000,000 Miles no Problem.
A diesel will go on ever if serviced correctly, and this video proves it, Ok you have to change the clutch and brakes every and timing belt or chain on a regualer basis. then the car will last you, The engines themselfs are excellent.
Original wheel bearings??? Impossible. My front bearings start roaring almost every year. I've been through like 3 pairs and I'm only at 70k! I believe you, but wow, you're just really lucky i guess.
I didn't mean my last comment to sound so snobby, it's just that two of my other friends have jetta's and both are from mexico. They've had nothing but problems except for my golf. I called up vw and they searched the records and told me it was imported from germany. I bought it used here in the usa. I here more vw's in the US are from mexico and canada and americans complain that vw's have problems. I've lived in europe and everyone there praises vw's saying they almost never break down.
1 mila = 1,609344 kilometra, 400 000mil*1,6=640 000km, ok this car had 7 years, about 91 428 kilometres on the year, everyday this car crossed 250 kilometres
I don't blame you for wanting to call BS on the front brakes. I would too if they weren't mine. Remember that 95% of the miles on this car are on rural highways. 30 miles between towns, use the brakes 3 or 4 times in a small town, then 30 miles to the next town, and so on. No way would they have lasted this long if it had been in-town driving, or if I "drove the piss out of it"...LOL!
I actually believe on the brakes being the original b/c my dad's car has 200 000 km with the same brakes all b/c he drives in rural areas and highways with little to no stop/go traffic.
This video just further proof that German diesels last a lifetime.
original front brakes ehh? I want to call bullsh*t on that sooooo bad. The clutch yeah i can see that. and the wheel bearings and turbo. although I could bet that turbo is just nigh of dead dead dead. Im at 350,000 miles on my car and the brakes have ben changed plenty of times. But I drive the piss out of my baby too lol. She runs great though I expect atleast 600,000 out of her
Original stuff includes the turbo, wheel bearings, FRONT BRAKES(!), engine, tranny, clutch, etc. I've replaced the injection pump (it was noisy), shocks/struts/+assoc. suspension parts, rear brake pads & rotors, and the battery, all at between 350K and 380K miles. Still runs and drives like a new car. For pics, get on photobucket and look for account "K5ING" (you tube won't let me post the url).
Great vid. Which engine is this? Thought it would be a PD as it's an 01 car, but if you've replaced the injection pump it can't be as the PD doesn't have one. 400k out of a single clutch and set of front brakes has to be some kind of record though :-). You must do almost exclusively motorway / highway miles, and not hit much traffic.
@k5ing Are you sure? Also, you did not have any problems? What did you do to keep it alive at 400K miles. I ask because I keep on hearing how VWs are so expensive to maintain compared to a Toyota. Speaking of Toyota why did you decide to buy this over a Toyota, if you don't own one? I mean was reliability a factor for you?
@unknownunknowns Am I sure about what? The miles? Yes, I bought the car brand new. I've had a few problems, but nothing major.
I bought the VW instead of a Toyota because VW was the only manufacturer to offer a diesel engine in a car in the US. I used to own a '94 Toyota pickup truck and it was very reliable, but it wasn't powerful enough for my job, and it didn't get the kind of mileage (50mpg) that the Golf gets. If Toyota offered a diesel in the US, I probably would have bought one.
@k5ing I'm sorry. When I said, "Are you sure?", I was refering to the original parts you mentioned. It's just amazing how you still had those parts that long because I keep on hearing and seeing horror stories on how frequently owners had to replace the parts or had electronic malfunctions. I suppose those owners had newer models.
So your Toyota pickup wasn't "powerful' enough? What line of work (or whatever) do you do that made you buy a sedan?
I have a Mk4 130 TDI with 125,000 on it...i am going to keep it until 300k if possible. Is yours still on the same turbo? What other things have you replaced engine wise? Cheers!
So a car can reach that high in miles, why people focus on low milege?
knowledgebk305 1 week ago
