@sh0werp0wer so? i passed my test on a right hand drive car, i even drove in the philippines using a left hand drive car much to my dismay that i was driving without proper international license you just got to get used to it.
I don't mean to criticize this choice but, according to what I've heard, it's been motivated by giving the local people the chance to buy more affordable cars from Australia and NZ; that's fine. but look what the Russians do; you see lots of used RHD cars from Japan there and they're doing OK. Personally I've tried in UK and Europe with cars having the "wrong drive" and it's nothing dramatic. Anyway, it's their own Country! Good luck and drive safely.
72% of the world drives on the right side of the road. Samoa will just have to switch back again in the future when everyone drives on the correct side.
Is this part of the "China Syndrome"?....My father always praised their relationship with China...All those "Free Loans" to Samoa from China.... keeps me wondering!?!?
and no more American cars its sooo expensive and hard to import in the Island...the only people they used to have cars before the road switch are the ones with heaps of cash now Samoa people can have import cars from families and friends in NZ or Australia...thanx to the Government and the Prime Minister!!!...
The government should have got Beyonce in to sing her.... to the left to the left song in an effort to make the change more cool and fun; now that would have caused real chaos!!!
Don't speak of things you know nothing of Mr Rectum. They are honking their horns as it symbolizes a time of significant change or celebration in Samoa...they do it for Christmas, weddings, funerals, new years etc. Hope that answers your question.
If they want to adopt the Aussie accent and start eating Vegemite sandwiches then that would be okay too. Just as long as they don't go the New Zealand route and begin making offerings of fesh & cheps to their false idol Peter Jackson.
They are driving on the left as we do in Australia and Aussie cars will be cheaper for them(and better). As for the ridiculous system the Yanks use(U.S.imperial), the loss of your Spaceprobe because someone didn't convert miles to kilometres should make you wake up to the need for you to go to metric.
Yes maybe cheaper but majority of Samoan families living here in Australia and in New Zealand cannot just send back cars to the islands. We just dont have the money !!!
So many Japanese used car in the world including my country. Used Japanese car is cheap and the quality is the best than any other car due to Made in Japan.
I meant on the word "Made in Japan" is right now, so many CKD cars which is built outside Japan but for Japanese market, it's CBU car from Japanese factory. Most Toyota Cars in Malaysia is Made in Thailand.
im confused, so are they driving like we do over here in America or are they driving like they do in Japan? ( i know the history behind both reasonings so i dont see it as there being a right or wrong way)
@waydeewaydee I really think the side of the road you drive on is just about traditions in countries. For example the Brittish empire made the countries they conqured drive on the left side and those captured by the French drove on the right. Some former ones did change, like US and Canada to right. Both are respective tradtions of these nations. No one side is better they're just different.
The strange thing is that when New Zealand took over Western Samoa from Germany, it didn't change sides.
It would be cheaper to get used cars direct from Japan, rather than NZ, where the price would be higher because of shipping, GST, and the dealer's mark-up.
It doesn't make any sense to drive on the left as the vast majority of people are right handed, and left hand traffic requires left hand shifting.

Happy switching day to all Samoans. If Japanese especially from Okinawa watching this video, remember 30/7/1978 or 730.

Watch this video.
ナナサンマル 〜沖縄〜
This video shows Okinawa is changing from right hand traffic (LHD) to left hand traffic (RHD).
zharfantk1990 2 years ago
Similar to 730 Okinawa. If Okinawan watch this news, It remind them to 30/7/1978 where Okinawa converted LHD to RHD.

Hopefully the Libtards don't make us switch from US to Metric.
I'm counting on the fucking Libtards not to cater to the rest of the world.

This is just down right pointless. Why would you switch driving sides?
Sure it might be more affordable to get cars from New Zealand now but whats the point of getting one when you get your ass rammed by someones car?
It gonna cost more money than save money.

I agree. Japanese car are really cheap and very good quality. Right now, Samoa have advantage to buy used Japanese car imported straight from Japan.
