to say I liked that is an understatement of epic proportions. Almost any body who was into rock 'n roll music then, was a student of Carl, Les & Chuck. The birth of modern music. Put this to the top of my Favourites, man.. thanks. :))
Georges smiles is pure joy...I love seeing that man happy. I miss him as well Carl, waylon, john and even Mother Maybel could rock this if she were there.
I saw him not long after Blue Suede was a hit, playing a gold top Les Paul with a Bigsby. I was a little kid and thought he looked like an older man not like Elvis. George does a great job, you can tell he really studied this style.
Carl was great and under-appreciated. I had the good fortune to see Carl play at the Whiskey-A-Go-Go in Hollywood, which was a very small club, back in the late 70's. He was awesome and the crowd went wild. In fact security had to remove several young ladies that climbed on the stage trying to get to him!
George Harrison had said in an interview he grew up with this kind of music, and this program was "Carl Aide" to help Carl Perkins out financially. That's why they all did this program George said.
Has anyone mentioned that one time The Beatles (this was before Ringo) all decided to change their names for some gig (Paul was Paul Ramon which is where The Ramones got their name) and George became Carl Harrison in honor of Carl Perkins?
a few words for Carl. I grew up down the street. He was a mans man to every degree. stood for what was right and he'd seen and done the bad. pillar to a community let alone the foundation of rock and roll. he walked into music shop and sit down start pickin with whoever happened to be sitting in theshowroom tinkering. smile and say"go cat, pick one". He was never a dick to anyone. id run up to him as a kid so hed pat my head cuz he was mysterious, not knowing beatles and claptons studied him.
@gr8ful4EPdedhed Couldnt agree more..I met him in 1990 at the Ventura Concert Theater in Ventura CA and talked with him after the show..a genuine, down to earth nice man!
I love George's face at 0:22, and then at at 0:42, when Dave Edmunds starts playing before Carl Perkins has finished speaking...& George gives Edmunds a grin as if to say "You're so excited, you can't wait to start! I know, man. I feel the same way." And Ringo is such a hoot at 4:48, pretending to Roseanne Cash that his arm reeally hurts from playing the tambourine so much.
I read some of these post and i get felling they know better, than the musicans that are playing , dudes carl perkins was the first real rocker back in the days . perkins was an inspration for most of these guys. how can you call him a dick ,and douchbag , hey djthalie your a fucking loser, and a nobody so who the hell are you to say day shit like that , you should take a douchebag and clean you mouth out , because its foul.

@djthalie what he said is simply true. notice how he doesn't showboat letting eric and george shine cuz he likes hearing it.He could stand up and smoke em out any minute and they all know. they are his class cuz they spent their entire life attempting to pick like him , who didn't have someone to copy in 56. He invented it. those guys probably dont feel comfortable playing with him.the slightly askew rhythm.also is hard to play with that he does. eric was proud carl said he did good.
The way he just throws down those great vocals like it's nothing... the timing, the rhythm, the soul... the original 50's Rockers just cannot be beat.
Love this one! Great memories.....had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Perkins a time or two in his later yrs. in Jackson, Tn. where he lived with his lovely wife, Valda. George was indeed a huge fan of Carl's.....as were all of these Greats, I would venture to guess. George used "Carl" Harrison as a stage name on very early Beatle tours I've read. I agree....he sure looks happy to be jammin' with him!! : ) Thanks 4 posting this.....much appreciated.
Its amazing to see guys like that sit and admire someone. People sit and admire Clapton and all these fantastic musicians, but there was a source to it all. Whether it be Buddy Holly, Carl Perkins, or The Everly Brothers. The musicians of the musicians.
This is one of the most epic group of musicians to gather. Wow! Fantastic!! What priceless footage this is. Thank you SO much for posting this ... THIS is what music is all about.
It's easy to tell how close this kind of music was to George's heart. He was having a ball playing this stuff with a master like Carl Perkins, and the other "students".
I am a huge Beatles fan, was living about 2 miles from where this was recorded in East London, and didn't know it was going on! Couldn't believe it, because the Steam Baths (converted for audio recording) were where friends of mine used to play regularly. I still feel that I missed the chance of a lifetime - I heard about it two days after the recording/taping finished.

If I'm not mistaken Dave Edmunds was the musical producer of that program. Another reason why Dave Edmunds should be in the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame.
@10;59 Clapton looks like he could give a shit. Cause he suks and doesnt no what to play. Carl should have kiked his cigerette smoking ass outta there. The smokes wafting in Roseann cash's face FFS
@davey4557 ....I'm seeing a guitar God that is geared in on a legend, and who is trying to soak it all in. I guess he could have taken over the whole get together by playing over everyone, but it appears that he's trying to absorb the moment. The smile and stare alone right at Carl tells the whole story. You must be a Slash fan, no doubt. Can you imagine if Ron Wood or Keith Richards was there? Talk about cigarette smoke! There probably was enough cocaine in everyone's pocket to matter anyway.
HOLY ROCKIN' BILLY CLUB BATMAN!........This is the way all musicians should have to start.....The Carl Perkins/Elvis Presley University....After you get your degree you can play whatever the hell you want. Good luck with those finals, my friend...
Carl Perkins is one of my favs, look at the respect he has got from some of the Greats, amazing, George was a bit of a dark horse, just shows, his fingers did a lot of homework brilliant.
I was living about 2 miles away at the time, am a huge Beatles fan (and liked Carl Perkins, too), and didn't know that this had happened until the day afterwards.
