  • Redpaul78 - Newer Mercury Rev sucks. End if story. They should have changed their name. THIS is Mercury Rev.

  • Terrific, I missed that video and that track so much!!! Thanks for posting!

  • Just a pity the single version is shorter than the album version, the ending on the album version is immense. I wish Mercury Rev stayed like this. This is Mercury Rev!

  • Everything Mercury Rev has done has been THE MOST EPIC THIS WE EVER HAVE HEARD. Prove me wrong.

  • @RigoKellerColas

    Srry

    *thing

  • I am repeating what many ppl wrote here: Yerself Is Stream is one of the greatests albums ever.

Too bad they didn't repeated the same greatness after it.

  • @SuridaCity - I only discovered them a few weeks ago - managed to get a cheap enough cd of this - chuffed as I love it too, and not their later music

  • @purplevolcano

Man, check this on youtube - Mercury Rev, Chasing a Bee, live at the Phoenix Festival (1993), Yerself is Steam

When someone says there Baker was shit the only thing to do is a facepalm.

  • trippy video, but that guy's voice just plain sucks... this band got great way later, after that awful crazy singer left... Jonathan Donahue is a true genius.

  • @redpaul79 Ehhh.... "Houston, we got a problem". Best album they made (together with Lego my Ego).

  • chasing a bee is my job.

  • This guy probably made this song wgen he was high on some crazy shit

  • Scaruffi? Scaruffi.

  • i remember seeing the gig posters in dublin in '92,next to the crosby, stills nash posters,i went to csn and my wife, who i hadnt met yet had gone to mercury rev,we met a month later and she turned me onto them, really special time and a really special band, thanks for posting

  • so amazing.

  • this is how i always want to remember them. in their prime!

  • @glitchesandglitter nigga please--they only got good after that psycho idiot "singer" Baker quit

  • Yerself is Steam is one of the most amazing albums ever.....even 20 years later. and 20 years later i will take what MR is doing over FL any day

  • un pezzo unico.

  • Yourself is steam is an amazing album .

  • That's a pretty wack guitar sound

  • The former singer - David Baker? - was once quoted as saying that what the whole band had in common was a taste for "pornography and chocolate". He didn't get high eiher.

  • @egyptianminor either

  • This song still blows me away, every time I hear it

  • 20 years later and this song still just roots me to my seat in fear and awe until it lets me go.

  • Why oh why did David Baker leave this band!? This was the best era by far.

  • Yerself Is Steam > Deserters Songs.

  • @towerblockrock

    I happen to like both.

  • Mercury Rev is along with My Bloody Valentine the most impenetrable band i've ever heard..I love them both

  • The album version has a far, far better ending. Fantastic song

  • ah, from back when David Baker brought the disturbed element to Mercury Rev's music (a time when both MR and the Flaming Lips were more rock bands than over the top progressive rock acts) I remember him telling me one time that he thought the stuff after Boces (i.e. after he was booted from the band and did his Shady project) sounded like Sesame Street. haha. I love it all though.

  • @intuitivecat What is he doing nowadays? I love Yerself is Steam, Boces, and his Shady album and wish that he'd make more music.

Do you know why he got kicked out of the band?

  • @surfingelectrode not sure why. I only knew him for a brief period right after the Shady album came out. I was living in Chicago at the time & he moved there (around the same time that Jimi Shields moved there & started up Lotus Crown). He had a project together that i never managed to hear & can't remember the name of unfortunately. He was starting to do production work with other bands. I think the MR split was do to his darker disposition - MR became more 'upifting' after the split.

  • @intuitivecat Thanks for the info. I like See You On the Other Side and Deserter's Songs but just can't get into anything that they've done since.

I think Boces is one of my favorite records ever... there really is nothing else like it.

  • Tripping on mushrooms to this entire album is incredible.

    :)

  • I heard this song and envisioned the video to be damn near exactly like this. Perfect.

  • hard to put into words how ballistic this sounds live. ill never forget that night at the de montford hall. they supperted ride...supported??!!! yes and ride were shite.

  • oh my god!!! bumble hookers @ 3:00!!!

  • "my primitive words match my primitive heart"

    sweetest excuse!

  • bom pra caralho porra focking great song!!!

  • I think of my friend Tony Marin whenever I listen to this song. He turned me on to them back in 1993. RIP brother.

  • best song of the nineties......

  • From what DVD? Where can I buy it? I wish Bronx Cheer was embedebble on here so I could share it on Myspace. The music forums are better over there than on Facebook. You can find them easier on Myspace, and there are less viruses and trojans. Facebook is littered with unstable with crap.

  • @hootyhaha - From the "Yerself Is Steam/Lego My Ego + DVD" - it's still available online!

  • @Paralysedmind where online??

    please and thank you

  • @retrofaboo I just noticed it's still available on Amazon.com and Ebay... Not bad price too!

  • @Paralysedmind uuhhhh moneyy..... ok thanks

  • @hootyhaha

I Know yr post is a year old but even then, ....Myspace... really?

  • @RigoKellerColas Yup. Bands still use it. It's gone back to the way the site started out as. Site for bands and promotions.

  • @RigoKellerColas Piggy backing off what HootyHaHa said.. music award shows also still promote the channel.. you weren't aware of that...really? Where have you been?

  • @RigoKellerColas Dinosaur Jr. updates his myspace page with new music, so does Chuck Mosely and I think Mercury Rev still has a site. Go there, you don't have to log in anymore. Look for your bands. I haven't logged in for so long I forgot my password and email I used. MySpace did have the absolute best music and movie forums. But they took those away because outside stupid people kept abusing and spamming them. I still go back just to look at all the music videos and listen to updated music.

  • im subscribing right the f#*k now

  • This song blowing my mind

  • This song.......!!*!!

  • a few things about the music done here.

about 3:07 in is a studio/guitar noise. father cannot yell by can has a similar wall of sound.

the video is actually dadaist art about chasing freedom to lose it.

between rev and the flaming lips. rev were an almost duplicate to the butthole surfers, sonic youth, can and velvet underground.

even the fact the group did most intuitively can relate more to krautrock then say MBV or those sugar coated lips.

  • The best song ever .

  • wow

  • yep

  • double wow.

  • greatest album ever

  • Yerself Is Steam, awesome album!

  • great band.... timeless music... fantastic videoclip...

  • the closest i have to this era of rev is lego my ego, half-bootleg from 1993 and an improv very sleepy rivers from a single.

    thanks for the upload.

  • No live footage that I'm aware of... surely there's some bootleg footage floating around someone's archives.

  • @Paralysedmind There's definitely some. I saw them in Dallas I think '95 at The Galaxy Club. If memory serves, there were two videotapers there.

  • Excellent clip. Is there no live footage of this line-up? They were a pretty blistering stage act from what I remember.

  • DO ME NOW!! this is so good man
