this is pure beauty. funky toasted psych-soul. the elevators were so so ahead of their time, or maybe more correctly they were the indelible spirit print and template to remind us that at one small space in history 3 eyed people got together and recorded and put to acetate the true nature of glorious psychedelic freedom. they WERE IT.
@BarbarasUrates This is my favorite Elevators song next to the live version of "She Lives in a Time of Her Own" but we're just going to disagree in that a) ALL music is innately psychedelic b) the ones that TRULY invented the sub genre were scared to name it psychedelic because it would be a death sentence to their band...and c) it backfired on the Elevators when they tried it and didn't get past American Bandstand
Instantly identifiably 13nth Floor Elevators but, for me, this is just a very groovy, cool song. I have no idea what the lyrics are about. Not because I can't understand them,(I don't) just because i don't hear lyrics too well in songs and because I simply enjoy the unique sound and rythm of the 13th floor elevators, especially this one. Takes me to a special feeling/memory of my pre-adolescent youth though I've only known this song for a couple of years now. Long live Roky and his cohorts!
i remember listening to this coming down from my first acid trip....it seemed to last forever and one of the most sublime moments of my life....perfect end to a perfect album...thanks for posting!
Hey, this sounds like a Motown song--that's why I like it! Actually it's sounds like this song that goes, "Get On Up", that might be by the Curtis Mayfield & The Impressions, I thinking. Either way, nice little laid back tune by the 13 FEs.
My daughter's Petshop video has earned 3,4,5 times the views that this groovy song has generated. Popularity is fickle. Roky had/has reality/stardom challenging hurdles partially shoved off his path by his brother. Music Industry hopefuls/sharks take note:: these people are not to be taken lightly.
BTW there's an X-Files character named Roky Erikson. (In case you don't know, the lead singer of the 13th Floor Elevators was Roky Erikson. This is not me being obnoxious bc when I saw the X-Files episode in question I had never heard of the 13th Floor Elevators.)
Finally, how many of you heard of this band by listening to Rock Talk on CFRO out of Vancouver? (I did.)
Hey that's great, I'm glad someone else is into this tune, the band said this is one of their favorites from their entire catalogue and are very proud of it. I'm glad someone other than my friend that had me post it enjoys it.
Yeah man, this is "Postures ( Leave your Body Behind)" not "Pictures"
Help me have him see this please I hate to ask,

Without question my favorite psychedelic song... why wouldn't it be? They invented the genre... but this is really special.

I think the jug works very well on this song. I know it gets a bad rep but it adds to the sound.
