He sends Outlaw to outer space (which can be seen as a "different world") where indeed there is no Twisted Metal, and no pain and suffering that goes along with it.

Look at games like night trap, or double switch (which were terrible games) but were entirely video... not even any CG parts at all. also look at VCDs. The game creator cut these scenes out at the end and it is speculated it is because he didn't like them.

My guess as to why 1:30-1:58 contains nothing but darkness is that there was originally supposed to be some sort of SFX sequence, most likely one where Carl is thrust into space, but Sony probably gave Singletrac the signal to leave these videos out of the final game before they got the chance to do so.

What strikes me as odd though is the aspect ratio. Was it really filmed in 16:9, or did Eat Sleep Play crop it for the release of ETE?

These endings were for some reason replaced with a still picture of Calypso, text detailing the ending, then a scene of your character driving off (or in Outlaw's case, floating away in open space)

But yes, you're right, in Twisted Metal 2 he can be found floating through space during Outlaw's ending.
