Yeah, well that was the first slim I had, that had the issue with the drive being so lud when putting a disc in. So I returned that, and got another this afternoon, and I did some gaming just now for a few hours, and it is definitely cooler, and less loud than the first slim, or the 40gb. That was just a bonked unit.

I actually found it just as warm as my 40gb, gen 2. Keeping in mind that it was 87F, and I didnt have the AC on. Little bit less noise because of the lack of induction fans, but the single fan that exhausts to the back, can still get fairly noisy when running media.

Idle though, it is essentially silent. I was never bothered by the noise of the 40gb though. Never anywhere near the db level of the 360.

Kept mine on for roughly 24 hours (Played games and watched movies) then I went to work at 2200 last night and returned at 1000. It was no louder then when I left and the top was only luke warm. That was just my experience though and I do keep the AC on.

The PS3 slim is very cool to the touch. Was only luke warm after 10 hours of gameplay and movie watching.

I saw your posts over at PS forum, and followed your link. I got a slim today as well. But I am concerned about the drive when loading a disk, it is noticeably louder than my previous 2nd gen 40gb. Ejecting sounds normal.
