I think the G should be tuned down to a low E. That's how Jeff Todd Titon notates it in "Old Time Kentucky Fiddle Tunes", and it gives the B part an impressive resonance. (Although he gets the parts reversed in that transcription, and I'm sure there're several things off about his ver. of the A part (which he calls the B part).)
@apopcollapse I think you are absolutely correct. I'm kind of surprised I missed it when I was learning the tune. Maybe I just didn't want to bother with re-tuning. Next time I play it I'll make sure to tune down. Thanks for pointing it out.
