why does this rip seem to have slightly weird sounding synths to the CD release....in fact theres a rip on youtube which sounds normal but this one sounds a touch odd??

It's sounds like some of the high-end has been lost. I'm no sound engineer, but yeah, I agree with you; some of the high-end fidelity (high hats and the highs of the synth line) seems to have been lost in the rip. Could possibly be over-compressed?
