Concerning the last post: I am little uncomfortable with the not mentioning of Wilber here, because the whole argumentation is just tooo much Wilber 101, to not at least mention him in the tags. You present this as if it was your very work, I and a few million other people having read Wilber and Mcintosh&Co could do the same without preparation just like that, because KW DID the work, more than two decades, and we can use it.

Besides that, very well done presentation.

I hear you on the Wilber stuff. I am obviously heavily influenced by WIlber. The reason I omitted him was not as much academic as it was that I wasn't interested in pandering to the Wilber crowd. The video was more for others and I foresaw, should I have tagged it with Wilber, a lot of Wilber-centric discourse breaking out in the comments that might diminish the effectiveness of that goal. I'm sure you've seen that happen ;)

totally right. Looking back, obama was the best, seen spiral style, at least concerning the possibilty of mass-rise of consciousness. to anyone who gave the -1: it is UNPRDUCTIVE to invest in spirally impossible movements, as it cannot be succesfull, the energy is wasted.(Nothing against the thinking of the vid guy, we are in one one BIG boat)

I am non American but I am happy to see the developmental world centric "Integral Perspective" and Spiral Dynamics ideas introduced into "political" thinking.

My comment is about the way these ideas are presented. As we seek Evolution and recognize stages in line of development we can categorize the rhetoric.

As far as Mike Gravel goes: well, as an anti-authoritarian/radical leftist who does vote, i'm checking folks out, and am anything but enchanted with the likes of Hillary and Obama. I definitely like his courage, his thoughtfulness, and what appears to be (I'm just getting started looking at his background and such) a passionate commitment to the truth, as well as thinking outside of the box, as it were. As such, I can definitely see why you're backing him.

One potential model of change that goes beyond reform in a constructive way can be found in the pedagogic models of Paolo Friere, that are designed to cultivate active awareness that results in action, not only on the part of the oppressed, but ultimately the oppressors themselves (which is one of the key areas where Friere differs from authoritarians on both the left and right).

I absolutely agree with the need for leaders to evolve -- in fact, evolved leaders that understand the importance of mutual dialogue and non-coercive models of organizing are the only true leaders that exist. What I think is lacking in your analysis though is the possibility of building social evolutionary/revolutionary models that are *not* bloody, and that go further than the pendulum swings that frequently come with even the most progressive of reforms.

Gravel is in the last stage of Kohlberg's theory of Moral Development. I studied Kohlberg in college and I find the moral development theory accurate. This last stage is very rare and most of our current politicians have not evolved beyond the stage of good vs. evil mentality. They can't understand the big picture. Most of the framers of the constitution could. Very informative piece, professor! Have you considered running for office?

Absolutely! He's definitely second-tier in Spiraldynamics. This is the primary reason I support him. He embodies the integration of all the major maturity levels present in the US at the moment. I have considered running for office. We'll see. I'm only 24 at the moment.

FEAR! Of course we need to take responsibility for ourselves, but most sheeple want to bury their heads in the sand. Mike is not a coward, in fact he is so brave you can't figure out why he didn't become a kung fu master, spiritual guru or musician. Politicians with his combination of balls and brains are simply unheard of. While we're stuck with the brains we have, bravery is contagious. With Mike, this country has a chance of getting some of it's balls back! Keep up the excellent work Dan.
