@PolyesterCrowley777 the reeferman is Luis Rego (political refugee escaped from Portuguese Prison under dictator Salazar's reign) lead guitarist in a french rock band called Les Charlots circa 60's and 70's
France was into Pink Floyd during the 70's, while UK was into Led Zep and the USA into Creedence Clearwater Revival...French don't like to show their emotions in public, especially in the 70's, it would come later, with the mass brainwashing pop-rock of Mano Negra, Manu Chao and Telephone
Agreed. It's like... how do people make it in today's music industry when they can't even play an instrument? Is that some kinda joke? Can you be a musician without playing an instrument? Or for that matter, writing your own songs? LED ZEPPELIN is the equivalent of GOD and BRITNEY SPEARS is the equivalent of SATAN... she's here to ruin everything that's pure and good.
Yeah but this is not really ... "normal" french people. Most of the audience in this show was quite conservative and prefered shallow and naive "yé-yé" music (the french ridiculous copies of british bands at that time). You can even see l'Armée du Salut musicians in the audience, a kind of military-religious orchestra. So yeah it's kind of funny to see how these people look at the performers. But in 69, don't worry, all the other french people would have gone crazy too^^
I always assumed this was something like a French "Tonight show" or talk show of some sort,and the audience probably were there to see which ever celebrities were to be interviewed.Zep just happened to be the music act of the night.
@louki116 but that wouldnt really explain both Pink Floyd and The Soft Machine's appearances on this show as well...I dont think thats ALL they had on this show, I know at least three other "rock" groups, progressive and otherwise, who also appeared on Tous En Scene
@abrahamlincoln0900 yeah and like the tonight show they had a house band: ''L'armée du salut'' or in english: The salvation army! you can see them in the front left.
For me this captures the moment, they weren't wanted the audience was full of scorn and they just went out and played.

This is great - thanks pipo303. One thing, Why does the French audience not boogie a bit ?
America, 1969, the audience would have been all over the place. Great and wonderful performance though.

@abrahamlincoln0900
You're almost right, this TV show was supposed to promote French POP/Folk songs.
A French female singer called Zizi Jeanmaire was supposed to sing one of her song but never came and Led Zep replaced her... (Fortunately for us ...)
And as you may have seen, there are parents with their babies in the audiance and we all know that babies love Jimmy's way of playing guitare ;-)
