@historatia you think you understand our history, but when I read your comment, you don't even understand the basic of it. Our history built on each and every individual Vietnamese, fighting the French was not only the number of Dead Vietnamese that you gave out, but you should consider the number of each and every individual Vietnamese. Every Vietnamese is a hero when it comes to overthrow the French colonizers. Here we're taking about the COLD WAR!
It might have helped if the US had been fighting the same war as the NVA. The US was fighting against the spread of communism, the NVA were fighting to re-unify their country.
Also, it should always be remembered that the US destroyed large areas of Vietnam, wiping out swathes of tropical rainforest with dioxin spray, napalm and carpet bombing.
The American war in Vietnam was a madness born of the second world war and the collapse of European empire.
Ho chi Minh, Vietnam's communist founder, is a disguting TRAITOR and MURDERER. He was a member of the Third Communist International established in 1919 by Lenin to conquer the world. He even ordered to murder his own mistress Nong thi Xuan when she threatened to disclose her sexual relationship with him since that would destroy his image as a "Father" of Vietnam who "sacrifices" his whole life for Vietnam revolution.
nooo..how can you kill your own people, this complete broke my heart !!! I could be born and raised in an otherwise peaceful country. Vietnam could have developed domestically as well as economically if this wasn't for this bitter war... this just makes me wonder what would I be like if I were to be born there
O my god!!!!! This is the worse amercian propeganda i ever seen! The veitnamiss won!!!!! They broke the will of the marines and the people at the south!!!!
American media is the worst interpreter of our experience in Vietnam. When Tet died down the indigenous VC were largely defeated. It was the endless parade of NVA streaming into the south that kept the war going. The war could have ended in '68. Instead because we stayed out of the north and only intruded marginally in Laos and Cambodia (transit routes of men and munitions)it dragged on. We didn't lose the war; we lost the peace. Marines were never "broken". Semper Fi Brothers
@ajbur321 Fuckin Press and their big mouths and flapping jaws, lips just a yapbabblin it's 123 what are we fighting for fuckin wallstreet they love reporting on wars if it weren't for war what would politicians watch on tv those hawking "politics is the womb of war"
What a cruel thing is war... to fill our hearts with hatred instead of love for our neighbors, and to devastate the fair face of this beautiful world. Robert E Lee
@ajbur321 I don't disagree, but don't forget that the US government was truly afraid of escalation of the war if we invaded North Vietnam. By escalation, I mean China entering it.
Yes, I have never heard of the NVA massacre of the civilians at Hue, and I've lived in the U.S. all my life and I'm almost 40. I saw this video and another one here on YouTube that showed the massacre by the NVA.
So, thanks for YouTube because we don't have to wait for CBS anymore to tell us what has happened and is happening in the world. The whole U.S. media is now a big joke: TV, Cable, and newspapers.
The NVA was responsible for most of the civilian deaths in Nam. US troops did commit such crimes but they were very rare and isolated incidents. Every civilian death in Vietnam was blamed on our military. Most of the South was pro-American, therefore the NVA used systematic genocide to force the South to submit to the North. Al Qaeda is doing the same in Iraq today, and the Taliban in Afghanistan. And our troops are the ones getting blamed for it.
What you posted is absolutely true. An interpreter told me in person that kids told him stories of VC coming at night, taking hostages, threatening people with death if they didn't help them. I was artillery never had to fight in city like Hue. Thank goodness, that would be awful. The mortar and rocket attacks were bad enough to freak me. Damn snipers were a thorn in my side too. Snipers got a couple of my friends. Salute to all who bravely served.
I was about 9 miles from Hue on a lousy, muddy, stinking hilltop when all this happened. One of the guys I took basic with had transferred to a helicopter unit. He was flying food and ammunition in and out. He heard first hand what took place from one of the first units to go in there. Unarmed civilians were slaughtered like cattle. Mostly the educated because they are the hardest to brainwash and convert to communism.
He told me all this a few days later when he flew into our position to say hi to us and thank us for the artillery support we provided during the counterattack. Ho Chi Min was a murderous bastard who caused the death of millions of his own people and now they love him because he re-unified Vietnam.
The poor uneducated Vietnamese ended up with totalitarian communism because they didn't help the US soldiers identify the VC. To be fair to them, they were terrified of the VC because they knew they didn't have any conscience and didn't follow Geneva rules. All the GI's I knew were decent honest guys who never abused any prisoners or civilians.
The news media never mentioned the VC slaughter. What the hell, were the commies controlling the media clear back in 1968?
The massacre in Hue would never been happened, should Ho chi Minh respect the cease fire agreement.
Ho Chi Minh and VC betrayed their own people by sending troops to the South to kill civilians in traditional Tet. Our victory over the devils caused Ho Chi Minh's death afterward.
The Mau Than 1968 Offensive is a bad bloody mark in Vietnamese modern history.
Yet the media never portray the victim massacred by the NVA. They only portray the losing, the bad stuff that was going on in South Vietnam. No wonder the American lose the war.. They lose it to their own people, and to their allies. But 58 thousand and 125 thousand ARVN fought bravely. You men are our Hero.
@trandzuyhieu And what are the over 3,300,000 DEAD Vietnamese that died in their 25 year fight for independence from the French and American colonizers. The Vietnames 5,000 were not "for nothing". They were heroes for their eventual victory and the chance to breathe clean fresh Vietnamese air. They too love their independence even if you want to go on this phony anti-communist rant. Vietnam was NONE of your business, and all of your "power" couldn't win, even with the Mylai's.
@trandzuyhieu You are absolutely correct. I believe that had the U.S.A had not pulled out and not stopped the air support for the south it would be a country similar in prosperity to South Korea today.
@historatia you think you understand our history, but when I read your comment, you don't even understand the basic of it. The VC killed thousands of innocent people there!! 10 times worst than any My Lai massacre. A fact that so many forget, including Vietnamese sadly.
