  • Clarence Thomas is TALKING?

  • Are there any congenial, friendly and personable "born again Christians", or just those judgmental, hypocritical, hateful bullies?

Is THAT what God sent the world to "make deciples"? If so, then keep that crap!

    NO DEAL!

  • Comment removed

  • Great person. When you look past the partisan bickering, all the people on The Supreme Court (liberal & conservative) seem like genuinely good people.

  • Thank you for posting this, HeritageFoundation.

  • @writersblock26 you're quite welcome!

  • @oJKBo The ones who became filthy rich almost always did so on the backs of those who are constantly being asked to tighten their belts some more...and smile as they do it.

Letting millionaires work for minimum wage would give them a taste of how rotten the life of those they are currently exploting can be. Rather than actully see this picture (it might be amusing), most Middle and Working Class Americans would settle for millionaires at least paying a fairer share in taxes. NOW!

  • This man is DISGUSTING.

  • Ginni Thomas under-reported her income by $1.6 million. If that isn't a cause to prosecute her for tax evasion, then I don't know what is! If Clarence Uncle Thomas can't understand a legal form, then he should NOT be a member of the US Supreme Court!

  • We are heading in the direction of reinstating slavery.

The working man and woman, those out of work, may

very well be oppressed, once again subjugated, by the rhetoric and actions of this 'man'--loosely used word.

The antebellum South thrived when they could harvest their

crop, their wealth, without having to pay wages.

Does any of this resonate with what it happening in

the United (again, a loosely used word) States of America?

  • Clarence Thomas, Allen West, Herman Cain, Uncle Ruckus, these are all uncle tom's. Jesus, mlk, Ghandi these are socialists. the heritage foundation is corporate lying shill that hates America hates freedom and hates human, they love money though!!!

  • @dfg93353 yup

  • @dfg93353 Are you ignorant? Or do you just not know anything?

  • Seriously, Martin Luther King was a Republican who sold out to the Democrats and now look at the state of the black family! Seriously, why aren't all blacks Republicans? We'd all be better off!!!

  • Yeah yeah I know. Lincoln was a Republican. The difference with the political parties then ands now are this. Republicans were more Liberal then and the Democrats were Conservative. Read your history.

  • You sorry ass sell out. Not only did you sell out for being toooo conservative. But, blacks should NOT be Republicans anyway.

  • @WilliamHCarney blacks shouldn't even be involved in the two party system. because democrats they make up their little talking points and promise little bribes of welfare for votes that they fund with the money they steal from the people under threat of force. republicans spend money to help large businesses using money that acquired just the same.

  • Impeach this dirty scoundrel, he is a sold out to big interest, always looking out for his republican brethren.

  • this guy is a scumbag uncle tom

  • @grasd2 lol how come if a black person doesnt agree with another black person they call them uncle tom maybe one black person has more sense than another and that would be the black person that doesnt call others names cause they dont agree with them in short YOUR THE UNCLE TOM! HAHA

  • Probably a paid appearance.

  • @pollclaire Read his book. Then ask yourself if this speech isn't sincere.

  • @AlexShrugged

Im not a racist because its the truth. He hasnt said a word in 5 years during a debate. He goes in shuts up and just votes pure right wing. He himself is a beneficary of affirmative action in college and now wants to rid it himself.

  • He only got his positionbecause he is a well spoken uncle tom. No other reason.

  • Clarence Thomas hasn't asked a question in 5 years because he comes to hearings already having made a judgment. Thomas' views on the Supreme Court's role conflict even with his other conservative colleagues. He may be a decent person but his professionalism can hardly be considered a paragon.

  • Thomas is the lowest of the low; He's absolute scum.

  • @PERIZ99 Why do you say that? Because he's a house nigger and isn't on welfare?

  • @PERIZ99 Thought so. Fucking degenerate.

  • @semperfidelis3100 Please elaborate..

  • @PERIZ99 For a degenerate? I'd rather write a novel or start up a company. Or go to COLLEGE. Peaceeee

  • @semperfidelis3100 Oh my..! A novel..? How novel..! I'm impressed !

  • @semperfidelis3100

    1. John Thompson, 1985

    2. Brady v. Maryland, 1963

    3. Gerry Deegan

    4. Read up and educate yourself, you cock-sucking moron.

    5. Stick this Thomas scum, and what the hell, Scalia too ! Up your ass, you pompous idiot-

  • I do not care one bit about your hatreds and bias. This man's story and life journey are incredible. No one can deny that, if you think he is an "uncle tom" or if you think he is a low down dirty cheat. He has never faltered on his beliefs or changed his view to sway public opinion his way. That is called INTEGRITY, I know I hope I have half the amount of class he has.

  • he is a better speaker than Obama

  • No Mr Thomas, you're the idealistic dream of Monsanto having one of their attorney's on the Supreme Court. Please undo the SC ruling on patenting foods, seeds, etc. The wrath of Monsanto on this planet is upon us. It will be stopped, it will. God help us that it willbe in this lifetime.

  • cheeky577 - Once again you prove my point. You claim superiority over Justice Thomas, yet you cannot compose a substantive argument of any kind. He can reason logically and write a proper English sentence. All you can do is spew hatred and vulgarity, and call names like you probably did when you were on the school playground at age 8. Further, I notice that you didn't bother to answer my question as to what you had accomplished in life. Obviously nothing.

  • @RichardTaylor1630-- I feel sorry for you. Really. Did you notice your entire post to mine is, "abusive argumentum ad hominem" a Latin term for a logical fallacy in argumentation. This thread regards Clarence Thomas. You make yourself look like a fool by asking me what I've done with my life, LOL. That has absolutely nothing to do with this thread and is none of your business. Like I said, I feel sorry for you if this is the best you've got LOL. :-D Dude go away...in shame....

  • I hate Clarence Thomas. He is a corrupt politician masquerading as a justice on the Supreme Court. "Inspiring" some say of this man? Yeah, "inspiring" is a good description...if you are inspired by arrogance, dishonesty, decision-rigging, and of course the dumbshit argument that corporations are persons. Jesus fucking christ this guy is a total ASSHOLE. Get him outta there...no justice with nutters like this around.

  • You must be a very happy person, festering in your hate like that. What have you ever accomplished? Clarence Thomas grew up in the toughest of circumstances, but made something of himself. You can't even express yourself without obscenity, blasphemy and vulgarity. You are the ignorant one. The concept of the corporation as a "person" has been in the law since corporations were created. Nowhere in the Constitution does it say that the First Amendment does not apply to corporations.

  • @RichardTaylor1630-- I'll continue to express myself with justified anger as I watch my country turn into a corporate shithole where democracy is a quaint notion from a bygone era, you idiot who clearly can't figure out the tragedy of having right wing criminals like Thomas, Scalia, or formerly Rhenquist on the Supreme Court. For assholes such as yourself, GW Bush was a great president, Clarence Thomas is a fair and impartial justice, and Dick Cheney is an honest man. FUCK YOU.

  • @RichardTaylor1630 -- not surprisingly you're entirely wrong about the Citizens United ruling and corporate personhood. Only a misinformed idiot such as yourself would want corporations to bankroll and control politician's elections, and have rights at the expense of citizens. Yes, the Constitution does not mention corporations so it doesn't apply to them you idiot, LOL

  • @cheeky577 You mean how Obama bailed out the banks with $750B of our money. Or how he bailed out GM/Chrysler, but small business owners are SOL. Or how about how he has given "vouchers" to large companies exempting them from his healthcare disaster. And, again, leaving the small business owner out to dry.

But you're right, it's those right wing criminals we need to look out for.

    Ahhh, change is good.

  • @cheeky577 Um...."crack is wack". Good luck on the losing side of American Exceptionalism, commie shitbag. Stay indoors when the shooting starts or you may find out first hand how bad "obamacare" is.

  • @cheeky577

Well said. And you were being nice about it.

  • @cheeky577 what the bleep are you talking about?

  • @cheeky577 so full of hate. Did you not get enough hugs when you were a child? I'm really sorry your mommy and daddy didn't love you, but that is no reason to hate on others. You should look into therapy and work on your unresolved issues.

  • @ramrants -- is this the best you can come up with? Personal attacks instead of keeping on topic? Me full of hate? Have you noticed almost every media figure on the right wing of the aisle is a red hot hate monger: Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, Michael Savage...etc. etc. All of them consumed with hatred and foaming at the mouth. Sounds like someone likes to dish it out...but can't take it.

  • @cheeky577 oh, oh, oh Bill O'Reilly. Uh, uh, uh Sean Hannity. Limbaugh, Limbaugh, Limbaugh, ooooh. blah, blah, blah. Lather, Rinse, Repeat.

    Tell it to your therapist.

  • @ramrants -- you're getting to be a bore. Personal attacks again? As I look at every post of yours on this thread NONE of them have anything to do with Clarence Thomas. Instead, you offer up a pre-adolescent potpourri of personal attacks, insults, red herring arguments and worn out cliche´s. Go back to your room now little boy and curl up with your Ann Coulter books and Rush Limbaugh show.

  • @cheeky577 Seriously, you're 46? I thought you were a kid.

Is this what I have to look forward to in my old age? Trolling YouTube? That's just sad.

  • I like this guy. :)

  • This guy should have been the first black President!

  • Clarence Thomas officiated the third wedding of Rush Limbaugh in 1994. In fact, the wedding was at Justice Thomas' house.

These are the type of people he hangs with.

  • Never is the history of the country we had a Suprome court Justice bieng an active Politician.

You are nothing but a House Negro.

you are a True discrase to supreme court.

  • @JerezJulio Of course. Typical. A black man rises above impossible situations and accomplishes more in his life than 99% of men ever do, and what do you call him? A House Negro. God forbid a black man be successful and conservative! You fucking shit. He's speaking of pure Constitutional integrity and family values. These aren't political arguments. They're American values.

  • Comment removed

  • @semperfidelis3100-- spewing worn-out, hollow platitudes about "pulling yourself up by your bootstraps" does not a convincing argument make. A black lawyer gets to the supreme court by selling out his own people and legislating against their own cause. Ask any black person in Detroit if they admire Clarence Thomas' legislative record. Being black and conservative is like being an Arab Zionist. Doesn't make any sense. Next you'll be telling me Reagan loved blacks and the NAACP LOL

  • @cheeky577 The blacks you represent are degenerates on every level. The rest of the world doesn't have time for your welfare, crack, and theft. While whites, Asians, Mexicans, Indians, and the rest of us build up economic framework and careers in the this country. Why don't blacks just get in the game and start going to college? Clarence had it worse that 99% of blacks nowadays. The real world doesn't care about your excuses. We are forced to care only because we pay for your kids and crack.

  • @semperfidelis3100- you're caught red-handed showing your hatred for blacks. For you–a closet racist–blacks never suffered under slavery; never were discriminated against; never were subject to Jim Crowe laws; never were denied economic opportunity. You deny ALL of this factual history and cling to your "rah-rah" do it on your own mantra that conveniently flies in the face of reality. "Why don't blacks just go to college?" Unbelievable, the callous racism on display in your post.

  • @cheeky577 You can call me racist and what not. Maybe I am. I don't really care. The fact remains that the real world does not care about your problems. The real world does not care about anyone's problems. No one is going to pick blacks up and save them from their inner city welfare cycle of life because no one cares. The Irish, the Chinese, the Koreans, ect. all came over here with nothing and picked themselves out of it. Blacks need to do the same. No one is going to give them anything.

  • @semperfidelis3100 -- thanks for admitting you're a racist. Contrary to your bleak and cynical world view of "nobody cares", there are millions of examples of people helping each other out–be them black, white, asian, etc. does not matter. I also might mention there is no "inner city welfare cycle" for blacks anymore. Bill Clinton eliminated it–and replaced it with corporate welfare and the military industrial gravy welfare train (your tax dollars go to Lockheed Martin, Boeing, etc).

  • @cheeky577 Firstly, welfare is still very prevalent in the inner city. Secondly, my view isn't cynical. Its real. No one is going to lift blacks out of their lifestyle. They have to do it themselves. Or they can stay there. It doesn't matter to anyone but blacks. My friend is black and he's from East St. Louis. He comes from a broken home and very poor family. His mom got him out of that and is helping send him to college. Its not easy but anyone can do it. So do it. Crack is overrated.

  • @semperfidelis3100 -- welfare prevalent in inner cities? Don't make me laugh. Long gone decades ago. The most glaring criticism of the USA by the rest of the world is its total lack of any safety net for its own. At this point you're just repeating yourself over and over: "pull yourself up by your bootstraps". Its easy to see how a bigots justify their racism by saying "nobody cares" (e.g. YOU don't care) as a convenient way to deny the USA's using blacks as slaves and segregation to this day

  • @cheeky577 The strange thing is, whites don't seem to need a safety net. Neither do Mexicans. Or Chinese, Koreans, Indians, ect. The only reason they DON'T need a publicly funded "safety net" is because they already have one. Its called FAMILY. Blacks don't have the family structure that others do. That is why they fail without a "safety net". A majority of black kids are raised without fathers. No one in my family will ever find themselves on the streets. extended family included.

  • @semperfidelis3100 you are such an idiot if you think white folk aren't just as crap off as anyone else

it is all attitude and not skin color. moron.

  • @lloydmauler Whites are STATISTICALLY better off than blacks. Its a fact. Not a stereotype.

  • @semperfidelis3100

Whites do not need a safety net? Really? I'm willing to bet that the guys who received bailout money look more like me, (a white guy) then Clarence Thomas. And welfare as a result of irresponsible behavior is no more noble when you have white skin, a Harvard degree and work on Wall Street. As opposed to being poor, black and in the inner city. It's all the same to me, dumbass. I don't want a dime going to welfare for those in the inner city or to scumbags on Wall Street.

  • @cheeky577 need I remind you that republicans freed the slaves, and republicans were the ones that got the civil rights act of 1964 passed? we care about blacks just as much as every other race. but that means JUST as much, so affirmative action is racist.

  • @JerezJulio Not only can you not spell, you know nothing of history. And you are a racist, too. You must be proud.

  • @ramrants -- please see my reply to semperfidelis, just above your comment. At least JerezJulio grasps the problem here, which is more than I can say for you, LOL :-D

You and "Semperfeidelis3100" are clueless idiots: Clarence Thomas' gain is your loss....he hangs with Dick Cheney (remember Dick? He vigorously fought AGAINST the USA's sanctions on apartheid South Africa in the 1980s and was an avid supporter of the pro-apartheid National Party of South Africa up to its end in '93).

  • @cheeky577 are you serious? U can have ur own opinion, but not ur own facts. the Republican party was founded on abolishing slavery (hint - Lincoln was the first Rep), Jim Crowe laws - Dems. Gov Wallace, the guy who wouldn't let blacks into schools - Dem. KKK- started by the Dems in Tenn. Oliver Howard - founder of Howard University and Freedman Bureau - Rep. Vote for Civil Rights Act of 1964 For: Rep- 165 (80%) Dem - 198 (62%) Against - Rep 40 (20%) Dem - 117 (38%). Those are facts.

  • @ramrants- very comical post, and very red herring. In case you didn't notice, the Civil war was 150 years ago, LOL. And lot has changed since then in case you haven't noticed. Did you bother to even read my post? Go look up Dick Cheney, or Google him and "apartheid South Africa" and learn a little history regarding this GOP troll. Dick Cheney vigorously fought to keep the USA from implementing sanctions against S. Africa's apartheid government. There's your contemporary GOP for ya.

  • @cheeky577 Dick Cheney is not the Republican party. As I said, you can have your own opinion but not your own facts. Cherry-picking one thing that one person did while ignoring the long history of a party (that makes up thousands of people over 150 years) does not change the facts. Maybe u should take ur own advice and read up. As for contemporary GOP - which party blocked the door so as to keep blacks out of failing schools in 1950"s and which party has continued that tradition today?

  • @ramrants -- "you can have your own opinion but not your own facts" you say twice now. Please spare me the overdone, hackneyed clichés. Let's back up a bit here. Don't assume I'm any fan of the Democrats. I'm not. Nor am I a GOP fan. Both of these parties have been part of a liberal-conservative consensus--a political duopoly if you will--that assures corporate needs come first, and citizen needs a distant afterthought. And, my criticism is of Thomas--who is a corporate tool.

  • @cheeky577 Face it. You just don't like the idea of a black man who isn't a liberal, who isn't a stereotype. Racist pig.

  • @andrewMLhero -- you're not making any sense. Obviously you didn't bother to read any of my comments on this thread before opening your mouth. Or maybe you're functionally illiterate and can only call people "racist pigs" instead of construct an intelligent argument? Yes, that's most likely it. Now go back and finish your homework for tonight: "Fun with Dick and Jane" LOL

  • Great Americans don't make harassing phone calls or sanction their wives to do their bidding.

  • I'd take a bullet for this man any time.

  • Now this guy needs to be our president. This could be another Lincoln or Reagan easily.

  • Justice Thomas is a Titan. A true Nobleman. In a world of increasing darkness, Justice Thomas is a bright beacon among men.

  • hahah clarence thomas goes to my parish and its rly funny standing next to him in line for confession. i'm just like in awe O_O

  • @grobiegirl12 Shame on you!

  • @pstmeoff for what?

  • Obama's policies say one thing to black America: you cannot achieve your own dreams, so give up, stay where you are & take gov't handouts in exchange for your votes. Obama's policies hurt black America, not help. Liberals cannot fathom that black folks think for themselves. Black conservatives believe every black child is a miracle, not a punishment.

  • Black Conservatives believe in the free market & the power of entrepreneurship. Liberals hate anyone whom they disagree with. Liberals are biggots. Gov't handouts do not lead to prosperity in the black community. A culture of dependency on the gov't encouraged by President Obama & the socialist democrats holds back black Americans. Vote Republican! PROUD BLACK REPUBLICAN

  • @BlackRepublican2010 Hey man keep tellin it like it is. Your an inspiration to those around you whether you realize it or not.

  • @BlackRepublican2010 It's good to see someone standing up for what they believe in and not conforming to the norm. For a while now I was thinking that the black conservative didn't exist anymore and I commend you for standing out. God bless.

  • I wish this guy was president right now! This man is a good man and a good American.

  • BLACK POWER!!!

  • Great man, few have his courage.

  • Newty you served divorce papers to your first wife in a hospital after she underwent cancer surgery.

Then you became a dead beat daddy to your daughters. CRAWL BACK INTO YOUR HOLE!!

  • This guy is amazing. He reminds me of my father.

  • Bravo!!

    Right = Right

    Wrong = Wrong

  • oh my god ... :(

  • great guy!

  • He is a Great American.

  • He is indeed, a Great American. God Bless America.

  • Wow, what a brilliant man. I wish more people would listen to his principals and wisdom. I really wish he would reach out and become a father figure to the black community. They need is guidence.

  • what a great man.

  • Thomas is the shizzle.

  • mondobeno- obama had a mediocre record as a law student, he used to do cocaine, has been accused of being gay by Larry Sinclair (see videos on youtube) hung out with terrorist/murderer William Ayres and sat in a racist church for 20 years. obama has never run a business or been in charge of a budget until he TOOK OVER American companies. obama has spent this country into the shit can in only 100 days.... What were you saying about Justice Thomas????

  • Obama would not have been my personal choice of candidate. I would have voted Republican if Mitt Romney had run for President.

As far as Obama being gay, I don't care. But your other points are true. However, the President is only 1/3rd of the government. He only carries out the laws. He doesn't make them or interpret them.

But if Republican pundits hadn't constantly mocked Romney for being a Mormon, we might have had something better than Obama.

  • mondo- I agree, Romney was my 2nd choice after Duncan Hunter and I had to hold my nose and vote for McCain but he was a far better choice than obama.

  • Lies. His private drug use, IF true, has nothing to do with being president. Nobody is "accused" of being gay because there's nothing wrong with it, and it's not a crime, the dispicable bigotry of this sleazy accusation proves YOU do not love our nation. There was nothing remotely racist about Obama's church, and he did NOT hang out with Ayers. Your sleazy racist lies about Obama won't cover that Thomas was unqualified, radical, and an insult to qualified blacks who don't oppose equality.

  • So the acusations of Bush's past of drug use somehow makes him unqualified, but Obama's acusations of drug use somehow makes him "inspiring"? Such a double standard.

And to the other comments you said; you must have been living under a rock the year before the election. Step away from the Kool-Aid bud..

  • barack quickly tossed aside that behavior in his YOUTH.. ol georgie partied away well into his mature years at the potential expense of those of us on the roads with him while he drove

  • ok, i'll give up tomorrow. not today.

  • Read "My Grandfather's Son" and get a wonderful view into who is Clarence Thomas. He is indeed a great American.

It is very revealing of who the Left are that they attempted to destroy him through lies, deceit, and hatred, but that is what the Left is all about - fascism. The left is vile!

To those who post comments using curse words and hatred - You only reveal who you really are, and prove everything I have to say about the mental disorder of liberalism.

  • If our government is based on sending young men out to kill, there is something seriously wrong with it.

  • What a guy.

  • Justice Thomas rocks!

  • Comment removed

  • Right on ! I heard the same thing, and Obama has the absolute audacity .. oops ! there's that audacity of hope again ! more like the audacity of audacity but any way, for Obama to claim he's not an experienced jurist was ridiculous ! I like Clarence Thomas, too and am very proud of him.

  • Wow ! Such wit you exhibit, sir ! Why don't you apply for a job in Obama's cabinet - maybe he'll make one up for you because as of late he's really good at doing that

  • Wow, you're a fucking idiot.

I'd just like to point out that conservatives kick ass (especially yours) and they are not fags. Actually, YOU are a fag. So shut up.

  • This man truly is a inspiration. Its sad that many of the opposition view this man as vile.

  • You know Escoxtc... I feel bad that your best arguments are to accuse somebody of racism. Grades are defiantly not a measure of intelligence or of potential for success. I respect this man for his conviction and his Principals. BTW I wont judge you with your confusing grammar/statements or your labials accusation of me either, hows that?

    COLIN

  • Escoxtc is a classic example of a shielded bigot. He/She PRETENDS to be for equality (affirmative action), but rails against any example of a minority who succeeds without relying upon it. People like Escoxtc NEED minorities to "get in line" with socialist policy. They simply cannot tolerate individual thought. Again - expecting someone to vote or think a certain way because of their skin pigment is racism exemplified. If Thomas espoused liberal views, Escoxtc would have NO problem with him!

  • ESCOXTC did you get your talking points from a White liberal perhaps? Pardon me but Clarence Thomas has every reason to have contempt for large parts of Black America. So go make so freestyle about how Tookie was a hero for writting a childrens book while crapping all over a man with real achivements. Hate is like holding a hot coal the only person thats gonna get burt is you. Kinda puts things in persepctive doesn't it.

    Colin

  • Colin, you sound like a fucking racist moron. FYI.

  • I'm a 24 year old White Male conservative..... Clarence Thomas is a Hero to any young person they can look up to him for guidence and if they follow the values and the principals he esposes then they will be sucsessful.

    Colin

  • If a black man isn't Liberal he's a self-loathing race traitor. There's nothing a white Liberal hates more than a black conservative. And when those black conservatives are intellectual, successful, and happy (as opposed to shouting and hating on everyone and everything) they've sold out. They're nothing more than an Uncle Tom- a house n****r. It is simply not possible for a black man to accomplish their goals through dedication and hard work. Therefore only deception or treachery is the answer.

  • So if I understand you correctly, the only alternative to an arch conservative Black man like Clarence Thomas is a radical, militant liberal Black man. Well how able to moderate, clear-headed, self-respecting Black man? Guess what? He thinks Clarence Thomas is full of shit too!

  • So if I understand you correctly, the only alternative to an arch conservative Black man like Clarence Thomas is a radical, militant liberal Black man. Well how about the moderate, clear-headed, self-respecting Black man? Guess what? He thinks Clarence Thomas is full of shit too!

  • Thomas is nothing less than honorable. A great mind, a great individual, one who has contributed more than far most to the greatness of this country!

  • you white people here who laud clarence thomas for being such a stalwart voice for neo-conservative ideology are probably the same people who lock their doors and hold their purses more closely when a young black man is around you. Hypocrites.

  • You say that Clarence Thomas is a self hating black man because he has a conservative and a constitutionalist and you lump the majority of the white conservatives here together in a baseless accusation of racism.. you sir are a political bigot and a racist yourself. Did you listen to the man speak? Did you listen to the man's beliefs and principles as espoused by his own words and voice? White people bad! Black people good! how is "whitey-loving house slave" not just as bad as the N word?

  • his judicial philosophy belies a patent disregard--you can even say contempt--for black america. THAT is why i say he's self-hating. You people here can defend him all you want. Most of you are white and don't know what it is to be black.

  • Clarence knows what it is to be black, and he chose to NOT use it as an excuse for NOT succeeding. He chose to embrace his intellect and individualism - instead of your prescribed homogeneous "group think" based on skin color. He BECAME something because of who he WAS, not because of anything that a collective group of similar-pigment people TOLD him he should do.

Why is it that black politics is the only place where "group think" is the expectation? Why do blacks expect and DEMAND this?

  • Yeah sure, he became something because of who he was. Right. Pull the wool over someone else's eyes. He was a mediocre law student. Putting him in the Supreme Court was a mamouth display of Affirmative Action. Then he turns around and rails against Affirmative Action, as if he owes nothing to the policy. You people arguing with me are full of shit.

  • Affirmative Action was federally sanctioned by the Nixon administration. I am a white man paying a despicable amount of child support. How many black men out there share my burden? I ask this question because I have come to a greater understanding of government oppression against fathers. White fathers, black fathers. But my fellow fathers out there that are black are taking it on the chin and that is wrong. The new 'racism' is not black or white, but male or female. Just one man's opinion.

  • A contempt for black America? Which black America? The one FILLED with individuals who are out there working and trying to better themselves, or the one that meets your CONVENIENT definition of "voting and thinking the same"? Why do you expect a group to become a collective, simply because of the melanin in their skin? Isn't that racism DEFINED? Why would a black man be any LESS an individual than a white man, an Asian man, or a Latino man?

Individualism is something you simply don't possess.

  • What are you even talking about? This is a man that does not classify himself as black or white. He is a man. The longer people focus on race, like you, the longer it will be an issue. Get over it. He doesn't fit your cookie cutter mold. He is a free thinker...OMG!

  • no, i think my sanity is intact. if you think i'm nuts on account of what i've said, then explain how.

  • LOOK!! A black guy who's self esteem is sufficient enough that he doesn't cry racism to get ahead in life.

  • ZING!

  • im white and im a genius!

  • Thomas is simply a great man, my favorite SCOTUS hands down.

  • kchery you are not suprisingly, one of the dumbest people i've encountered, and I'm black, and you're an idiot

  • I like Thomas's respect for neutrality and his steadfastness to what he believes is correct despite of his race. However, his view is miopic. First, as a justice, he does policy, whether he likes it or not. Second, his policy cannot assume that the playing field for the races in the US is even. Beyond personal merit, some people were forced to be inferior for a very long time. The field must be evened out before equalit and neutrality can be established. He may be sincere but seems to be unwise.

  • I feel proud that our men are fighting to defend our empire from the evil people in these third worlds countries who dont want to sell their oil to us.

Now the iraqis are free to elect a government that we approve of and are free to sell their oil to us and not others.

And we will protect them from electing a free government that will build an economy that will help the ordinary people.

We have to be proud of our men who sacrifice themselves for the good of the impoverished corporate elite.

  • Thank God for Justice Thomas! Great speech ... and it's a great book. May you sit on the court for many years to come!

  • Why is it that, when I hear Mr Thomas talking about "cute slurs" and bringing kids up not yelling and screaming, the people who come to my mind are the likes of Ann Coulter and the hysterical right wing shock jocks who seem to be destroying reasonable discourse in the USA today

  • Yes, by 1937, Roosevelt had convinced the US Supreme Court that there was merit to his ideas, as they began famously undoing decisions of the previous 32 years that had left so many Americans vulnerable to the economic downturn of the Great Depression. The Court picked up the pace of undoing the damage with the appointment of Chief Justice Earl Warren.

  • People were vulnerible due to fiat currency, central banks, federal reserve policies etc. Nothing more. Ineffeciency and corrupt practices. This effected almost everyone, it brought on the great depression and every recession since.

  • wow ndn i agree with you!

  • The brilliance of Thomas is reflected in his ability to say these very simple words, "I don't know." The wisest among uus is he who knows he knows nothing. (paraphrased Socrates quote). In a world where everyone is running around with their hair on fire and a "solution" for every "problem", Thomas brings us back to the time-tested proven basics.

  • I totaly agree with you. He definately spoke words of wisdom; believe I have lived long enough to know.

  • Clerence in my opinion is an anti black conservative in black skin. I bet he marries a white woman to increase his chance of success and gain acceptance amongst white people. This guy is a true hypocrite, after he benefiting from the civil rights movement, he is now working hard to end everything that have helped black people including himself in the past.

  • You're an ignoramous.

  • Get his book My Grandfather's Son. You'll see how much he really cares for black people. Before I read the book I did not like Thomas. Now I have nothing but grudging admiration for this man.

  • Justices often considered more "liberal" - Justices Breyer, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, David Souter and John Paul Stevens - vote least frequently to overturn Congressional statutes, while those often labeled "conservative" vote more frequently to do so. At least by this measure, the latter group is the most activist.

  • huh? if the statute is unconstitutional there's nothing activist about overturning it. Of course the liberals don't overturn Congress often, they believe in a centralized gov't and aren't concerned with the erosion of federalism. learn what FDR did to the constitution and then maybe you'll get it.

  • Justices vary widely in their inclination to strike down Congressional laws. Justice Clarence Thomas is the most inclined, voting to invalidate 65.63 percent of those laws, Justice Stephen Breyer, is the least, voting to invalidate 28.13 percent.

    Thomas 65.63 %

    Kennedy 64.06 %

    Scalia 56.25 %

    Rehnquist 46.88 %

    O'Connor 46.77 %

    Souter 42.19 %

    Stevens 39.34 %

    Ginsburg 39.06 %

    Breyer 28.13 %
