  • GOD decided Rush had to be geedy, alex & neil, and no one could or can stop it. It's from above. Fantastic band.

  • this version is badass, but i still prefer the rush in rio one :D

  • Never heard a song like this before or since... To say "it rocks" is an understatement!

  • Super Show, BIG MONEY is in every ear at all, but this sound you hear(ing) in 50 years every day, is perfect. This super sound is every day reality. Financial thinking is not first at all. The music is the first! Compliments for RUSH!!!

  • very synthetic but still a great album

  • @castoff231 You know, I recall listening to this record on a good dose of LSD, and I thought, my god the instruments sound so rich and dynamic, so expressive and big sounding (love the reverb/delay/chorus effects used) and the arrangements are so unique. I truly think Power Windows is not only one of Rush's best records, I think it's one of the planet's best pieces of music. I've listened to this record on countless substances, as well as sober and it most definitely rocks!

  • one of my new faves.....

    love the bass line too

  • What a freakin' band. Gotta be one of the sickest basslines ever. I could listen to this alllll day. :)

  • maravilhoso!!!!

  • 4:10 - incredible how does Neil Peart played this part !

  • You know, I think Power Windows and HYF had some of Ged's most melodic bass playing ever and Alex's solos almost seem to speak. Great period for this band. And, the Wal had such a great punchy sound.

  • I love their early-mid 90's stuff with more keyboards added in :-)

  • @turfguy87 oops make that late 80's to early 90's :-)

  • I LOVE Power Windows! One of the best sounding 80's records I've ever heard!

  • @ShjonThomas

Couldn't agree more. Love all Rush albums, but Power Windows, and Hold Your Fire are true sonic masterpieces of the 80's! God I love this band!!!!!!!

  • @ibanezman1025 Totally man, I was blown away the first I listened to Power Windows!

  • This song is fucking amazing !

  • Even If I wasn't a huge Rush fan I would still be in awe of this song and their talent

  • SURE GLAD FOR LIBERTARIANS

  • Jesus that bass is incredible, Rush are awesome!

  • I love Geddy's hair.

  • 3 people are chasing the Big Money. Don't you know? Even if you win the rat race, you're still a fvckin rat.

  • sweet!

  • that bassline :p

  • I'm so glad we had this short window of time in the 80's when this legendary music was created... still sounds just as great today as it did back in the day!!

  • Such a glorious guitar solo. One of my all time favs

  • what kind of bass is he using?

    That punchy tone, wow!

  • @CircusEnvy23 THAT, my friend, is a Wal Bass. Their shop is in England and there's no production line, so every bass is custom made. Geddy owns four of them. Other big users include Justin Chancellor of Tool, Jeff Ament of Pearl Jam, and of course Flea.

  • @JamesOhGoodie cool thanks!! I looked at the prices but they seem a little steep XD

I'll be sticking to my p-bass for now XD

  • 1:03 start button :p

  • talent, beauty, it makes you feel you know?

  • This is my favorite song by rush. Not the album version, not other live versions.. this EXACT one. Something about it gives me chills every time I've listened to it (probably literally several hundred times!)

  • is that a kramer?! O.o

  • Sickest bassline EVER!!!!!!!!!! Never get tired of listening to this.

  • i like to divide the rush's eras in "rickenbacker era""Wal era""Steinberger era""Fender Era"

    i love the rick,steinberger and fender..but don't like the wal sound :)

  • What kind of bass is that, i see him play it on Power windows, hold your fire and grace under pressure tours... i kind find it's origin anywhere

  • Comment removed

  • @ACDC123459 Its called a Wal bass, Justin Chancellor from Tool uses one.

  • Rush is Sooooooooo Gay But Their Music Is Cool

  • @punk4561 wtf about them is gay u ignorant person

  • Rush are very complicated as a band,to me they always seem to want to change as a band, suggesting they never were/are happy with what they have written/done before, its all like a crazy experiment, without ever finding the winning/right formula.Honestly Rush are like a 100 different bands rolled into one,you could say their lack of identity is their identity?

  • Saw this tour! this was there opening song! the best 3 hour concert and i have seen them before but this was the best imop the opening 3 Stooges music is funny they had the 3 Stooges figures on the stage it was funny they looked like there were having fun and they played and played and gave us our moneys worth! the best band ever! and ever see them this maybe the last tour i hear due to the ages in the late 50"s in ages they dont need the money im goin to Los Angeles tour all 3 shows!! C Y

  • @OEKCVB The last tour concept has been coming up since 1985...And theres going to be the 'Clockwork Angels' tour after 'Clockwork Angels', 'Vapor Trails [Remastered]', 'Time Machine [Live] (Chicago)' comes out...And then they have been thinking at least one more album after 'Clockwork Angels'.

  • Comment removed

  • @sysrq120 Well dumb ass no one listens to Rush for their lyrics, they are supremely talented musicians, and drop your tree hugging nonsense no one wants to hear it. I mean if you want to pick on a band, pick on

Rage Against the Machine, Communists who signed a record deal with one of the largest record companies in the world and making a pretty penny from their album sales.

  • @Blackshayde I hear what your saying but even the best music/musicians need BIG Money to record and to market it.Fact not fiction.Plutocrats really do dictate to many what music they here/buy.Sad but true.

  • At first I thought the Earache My Eye riff was just a weed reference, but that song is sort of about money isn't it?

  • This performance is still fresh after 25 years...Most music really did stagnate after the 70's. Not so unusual when you reflect on the evolution of classical music from 1500-1900. There are periods of punctuated change followed by stasis.

Rush was not a radically creative band- but they were part of a significant musical evolution during the 70's whose influence is still felt today..

  • such a crisp bass sound. pretty incredible.

  • Saw them on this tour in London. One of the best opening tracks to a live gig ever

  • awesome bass line in this song

  • I really don't see how geddy sings and plays bass like that at the same time - it seems almost impossible ......

  • Geddy Lee makes everything possible. He rules!!

  • This is Geddy's coon-skin mullet era, LOL.

  • @RCAvhstape lol, we had neil's handlebar moustache era, geddy's mullet era, and now either neil's cap and/or alex's balding era ><

  • I just love that little pause at the end, Neal takes the chance and scratches his head, very funny!

  • Been a Rush fan for 25 years, and this is my favorite opener... There's so much power and energy to this song. Listen to how the crowd explodes with applause on the Show of Hands CD version when they play the first note. The closing riff at 5:56 is one my all-time favorites.

  • if you ask me one of neils finest drum part ever written

  • am I right that alex tunes his guitar up a full tone for this song?

  • @AustinMcsherry yeah, i think he is in F#. In all the tabs online, it calls for a capo on the first fret if that helps you any.

  • Spectacular drumming.

  • This type of music is legendary! None of this new bullshit music that comes out on these radio stations will ever compare to the 70's, 80's, and early 90's rock! This is talent! Everything else is posers trying to have talent! Bar none!

  • @trpacosian I agree completely except I would add the 60's to your list. I'm a Beatles fan and a many great 70's bands actually started in the 60s (Who, Zeppelin, Yes, Floyd, etc.)

  • @schmittelt yes was never great. they were much more. they were known to be the best band ever

  • @ryandevison

they were not known as the best band

    they ARE

  • @NightshiftFilms if that was the case, then where the fuck is jon anderson and rick wakeman?

  • @ryandevison

oh shit you actually got me there :P

dammit, i haven't had to think about all that nastiness in so long...

  • @NightshiftFilms lol good point there

  • @trpacosian Damn right brother!

  • This song is very relevant today after the financial meltdown and all the things said here are more true than ever. Especially that big money has no soul!

  • lil trib to chech and chong at the end? lol

  • My head exploded when the band paused and Neil Peart scratched his head, then started back up again at the end. I'm writing this from beyond the grave. The afterlife isn't so bad.

  • @dtoliaferro look at the xanadu video from the R30 tour. he doesnt just stop, he 'smiles' too

  • The music night be good but who doesn't love those shoulderpads! Woo!

  • These guys formed the year I was born..wow eh?

  • RUSH --- "THE BIG MONEY"

  • OMG they're having so much fun!

  • meu presente aniversário! Rush, 8 de outubro!

  • I almost bought this at the flea market, until I realized it was actually called 'A Show of Glands.' You have to be careful going into those little booths.

  • IF YOU LOVE RUSH FRIEND ME!

  • Playing bass is one thing. Playing bass and singing at the same time like Geddy does is unfriggin'believable! These guys are awesome.

  • @ralph17601 Don't forget the keyboars, and moving the mic with that nose of his.

  • @ralph17601 how about playing bass, singing, triggering midi effects, playing bass pedals and keyboards all in one song.....amazing musicianship

  • @ralph17601 not to mention keyboars too.

  • @ralph17601 Sometimes playing bass, sometimes playing bass and singing, sometimes playing bass, singing and playing keyboards, sometimes playing bass, singing, playing keyboard, and then hitting the foot pedals all at the same time.

  • @LightningCat315 Perfect comment on Geddy. Nice.

  • I completely agree. Geddy Lee is a beast!!!

  • @ralph17601 Yeah, I've done my fair share of singing and playing at the same time. You've kind of got to forge a different relationship with the song, you just have to know it so ridiculously well. You have to be able to not think about either of the parts and just do them automatically. These guys practice SO much. You can just hear the practice coming out on stage.

  • @ralph17601 dont forget moog pedals and keyboards on top :p

  • @ralph17601 You didn't mention he also is using pedals to play the synthesizer

  • é muito bom ouvir e ver essa banda tocando.

  • Neal peart is fucking sick!

  • Well, What can you say about this, only.... F*cking Superb !!

  • 4:26 - 4:57 Amazing!!!

Even in the depths of their 80's synthesizer period, Rush still held onto their original 3-piece sound!

  • i cant look at this band with that hair,, i know it was the 80s but though the song is amazing i cant stop laughing cause of the haircuts,,,,, Despite that Rush definitelly are the best band ever ...

  • Geddy getting lots of credit , what about the professor? incredible.....

  • in anticipation of having to sing and play bass at the same time, if i were geddy i would never have written this bass line... but i'm not geddy, geddy is geddy, and he did write this bass line and he sings while playing it... just amazing

  • Alex przypomina tu trochę Ludwiczka :D

  • How many bands have stayed intact with the original members for over 35 years? I can't think of any off hand. Amazing!!

  • geddy lee looked totally bizarro for a few years back then. I wonder if he did boatloads of cocain

  • Geddy Lee is fucking genius

  • The best bass player of his generation and beyond, there it is.

  • THIS was Rush's best sound! Bring back the hi-fi guitars and basses! NOW!

  • You just can't compare this era to any other Rush era. Their sound was HUGE on Power Windows. And the PPG Wave gave them a totally unique sound. I think most of the hardcore musician fans were pissed because they could no longer cover their songs.

  • The guitar work in this song is great. What am I saying? Everything is great in this song.

  • I hate Alex for going to PRS years ago.

  • @southport97 What's wrong with Paul Reed Smith guitars?

  • @MaxtheMetalhead Besides being overrated and overpriced? Alex's riffs don't sound as good as the studio recordings he made with his old strats.

  • @southport97 Like Fenders aren't overrated? They're a lot more used and talked about then PRS. As for their sound quality, that's all based on opinion. And for your information, I don't think that's a Fender. I believe it's a Charvel.

  • @MaxtheMetalhead The guitar he's playing is a Signature .. it was a Canadian guitar company that Alex was supporting .. I had a friend who had a couple .. they were very well built guitars .. A lot of people said they sounded thin or jangly .. that was his Gallien Krueger amplifiers that gave him that tone .

  • Brilliant ending!!!!!

  • Power Windows is my Bible...I swear I've seen God listening to this album...or something pretty close ;)

  • @ZoahLord I`ve recently heard every Rush studio album from start to finish and when it was time for Power Windows, actually when listening to Manhattan Proyect my eyes got wet because of the emotion. It has always been my favourite Rush album, a gem.

  • I agree. Power Windows is a true work of art!!!! greatest Rush album ever!!!

  • aaahhhhhhhhhhhhh Caanuckleheads...lol eh?!

  • I think the only vinyl of rush that i have is power windows, it's realy good.

  • Love the solo in this song. There is no other band like Rush....there is no other frontman like Geddy Lee. Why are these guys not in the R N R Hall of Fame????!!!!!

  • Holy Crap this was amazing.

  • Is it me or do Alex and Geddy look like they just had ten cups of coffee?

  • I had the chance to watch them in Frankfurt, Germany. Back in '88, I had been a dedicated follower of Rush for 7 years, borrowing a friend's car to see the show, a 150-miles trip to the venue. The show was incredible, the group performance just splendid 'n marvy.

  • en chile !!!!!!!!!!!! porfin

  • I've never noticed how much the guitar is reminiscent of Andy from the Police.

  • I was always a deep thinker but I didn't really know what it was until I discovered Rush. Not only does their music rule so do their lyrics. Rush rules.

  • LoL! That last bit was from Cheech and Chong! How kewl is that?

  • de la bombe!!!

  • There is nothing like a bass-guitar-drums trio !!!! - Rush, The Police, Cream, ZZ Top.

Muse??? Greenday???? they're nice, nothing beyond that...

  • I've heard it said that this album was heavily overdubbed...well, that may or not be true, but I saw them on this tour and others since, and they really are a phenomenal live band. (It may have been this actual show, there were cameras on cherry-pickers blocking my view) If they used overdubs, it is because they are perfectionists, Neil particularly.

  • @1968mjh And really, who cares if they over dubbed? You know? I mean it is still THEM in the over dub recordings and not some phantom making them sound good. It is ALL Rush making Rush sound great and that is good enough for me.That they are so smart they know how to make their music sound better and better is great in my opinion, and that's what it's all about. Hail Rush!

  • @1968mjh highly doubt it.........

  • @1968mjh Not overdubbed at all; sequenced. Some of the post production may include mixing out ambient sound & mixing in from the board and possibly some added effects on the vocals (which I personally doubt) but there's no overdubbing in-studio on a live recording from Rush. What you see & hear is what you get. Period.

  • Anyone know where I can get the three amigo's opening tune for this?

  • I never played bass at all. Can anyone who plays bass describe to me how Geddy makes these kick-ass Bass-lines seems so easy? Are they easy? They sound complicated, especially for a singer. I hear covers all the time, and they come no where near sounding as good. Anyone have an answer who plays bass? Thanks.

  • @Markcip1 its because geddy isnt human

  • @Markcip1 I've played bass for 35 years. Yes, the skill-level required to play of all 3 players' parts is quite high. Geddy's further ability to multi-task, coordinating bass, pedals, synthesizers and singing approaches the terrifying.

Geddy makes it look easy partly because he was born with an immense musical gift, & also due to 1000s & 1000s of hours of practice.

I would add that Rush is special because they focus on great songwriting, which is supported by masterful musicianship.

  • @selatik1 Excellent comment.

  • Lifeson's guitar work is stunning on this song.

  • BIG MONEY GOT!! NO!!! SOUL!!

    Truer words were never sung!

  • Love these guys!!

  • I bought this when it first came out on VHS. Played it so much, I literally destroyed the tape, and it wouldn't play anymore! lol. Love this concert!

    *cheers*

    Tas

  • How does Getti sing like that?

  • @lordgannon1 Its Geddy, and he sings like that because he is awesome :D

  • lol, nice one there breadfan

  • OK, BREADFANS, if Rush is supposed to be ripping off Budgie left, right and center, then please name the three time signatures, three musical keys and ten chord progressions used in this song, *The Big Money* by Rush. Then, name an earlier Budgie song that uses any similar combinations of these keys, time signatures and chord progressions.

I'll bet there isn't ONE among you who can do it. Not ONE. LOL.

  • Name the three time signatures and three keys used in this song.

  • I love these guys

  • Agreed! Rush's raison d'etre has always been about the MUSIC!

Rush is unique among many other groups of the past & certainly today who were/are mostly about getting rich, getting laid, getting high, looking cool, feeling important, being famous, etc. Enough already!

For decades, Rush has managed to blend hard rock with sensitivity, artistry, & a distinctiveness that has brought happiness, excitement & wonder to millions of fans worldwide.

  • Same difference, mate

  • Perhaps Rush and *Budgie* had some similarities in, like, 1973. but then Rush continued to rapidly grow, develop and redefine their sound and lyrics.

Budgie, on the other hand, seems to have remained the same.

40 years on, Budgie still sounds like the over-amped Cardiff Blues Butt Rockers they were in the early 70s. They've improved NOTHING.

  • Does anyone know if that's a Wal bass and what model?

  • Walmart Bass?

  • The Budgies? C'mon, that's just watered down Joe Welsh.

  • Perhaps Rush and the Budgies had some similarities in, like, 1973. but then Rush continued to grow and change and redefine their sound.

40 years on, The Budgies still sound like the over-amped Cardiff Blues Butt Rockers they were in the beginning. They've improved nothing.

  • This is Rush at their very best!

I've always loved how HUGE three guys can sound.

Rush can rock *really* hard, yet at the same time maintain eloquent musicality as well as an air of wholesomeness, which is almost unheard of elsewhere in the rock music world.

I also love how they can loosen up and have fun on stage, almost like school-boys on a field trip.

  • To sing and play a bass line like that, while periodically operating pedals and keyboards takes one HELL of a lot talent and coordination!

  • Outstanding.

  • such a great song. packed with "rush moments".

    i love it.

  • I love how Alex and Geddy try to break Peart's concentration at the end. No way though, the man is in a zone.

  • A song about how multinational corporations fuck up all the world.

Visionary!! Written in the mid 80s!!!

And they keep fucking us up!!

Big Money's... got no soul!! Great finish!!! :)

  • lol it's the 80's hahahaha

  • Comment removed

  • PERFECT!

    YOU WIN!

  • well, necromare its all in that nose of his. you seriously think that any normal human without that giant schnoz could do all that?

  • LOL loved your comment, I needed a laugh this morning!

If he had lived in Germany or Poland in the 1930s, they would have certainly taken him for a Jewish person....

  • The soundtrack from this "Show of Hands" video is not the same as the "Show of Hands" CD - so I guess they chose this as the best video/sound combination.

  • alex lifeson; the harmonic kid!

  • I love Alex's solo in this song. Just so damn cool!

  • Funny, Neil still has time to scratch his head in the finale!

  • mean bass playing...hehehe..the left and the right side of the brain is literally separate.

  • This is just amazing... Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, Neil Peart.

One of the best solo of Lifeson (3:47->), listen to that BASS!

Just amazing... Rush as always. :) Best band ever. :D
