Since it's all fairytales anyway, maybe the tree was in the garden because god has rules for what he has to put on each of his planets. Like there was a meeting to determine if yaweh would be allowed to have a planet. With the results I've seen, the council of gods must have decided that it would be better if *we* ran the planet instead of god. So they made yaweh give us the ability to do that and he's been taking it out on us ever since.

I was a christian, asking my parents these questions (and others, like why did Noah's family and Adam's family have to have incest to populate the earth even though incest is wrong) when I was about 13 - things just don't click, in the bible.
The claim that tempting Eve, free will, sin, hell, Jesus' death, even Satan are "necessary" is ridiculous; god could have created the system of supernatural "rules" any way he chose, he didn't *have* to be an egotistical genocidal prick about it.

So, obviously, the bible's god got around to making people 6000 years ago, only other, more advanced humans had already evolved with larger brains (as they could order quality kid-sized, albeit slightly overpriced bunk beds). Hence, god's people are, indeed, created in his image (thus incestual?), and only by sinning can they be free to join the rest of us evolved primates.

I've heard apologists explain 3.8-3.10 along the lines of him giving Adam an out and confess his sin, that he knew where he was much along the lines of a parent pretending to be ignorant of a child's naughtiness.

One thing though... I was always under the impression that the serpent was the then-angel that God later referred to as 'Satan'. Apparently angels have the power to take human and animal form according to the bible. The scriptures say that Satan, while a very high ranking angel, had grown to be jealous of the fact that God was worshipped and when down to Earth to corrupt his creations. So God didn't directly create the talking snake.

Another thing that bothers me about Christianity is how God left the creation of the Bible to fallible, biased human beings. Wouldn't it have been smarter for him to make the Bible himself? It just seems like it would have been a good way to avoid any misunderstandings that would arise from a poorly written holy book. I mean, God can make an entire universe but he can't be bothered to write one measly book? Is he just a bad writer or something? Because they have classes for that.

The reason that people still pray to and worship God, if God does exist, is because they are being manipulated by God. No amount of reason will ever change what people think if the source of all thought comes from a pathological compulsive liar. Christianity is clearly a set of primitive myths that grew to big for their breeches, being taken seriously by a lot of people in modern scientific times in spite of the fact that they are often very silly.
Which leads to situations that'd be hilarious if there weren't so many problems attached to them.
