So who or what is Maria realy? People say she is a made up fantasy conjured up by James. Then how is it she has her own story in Silent Hill? She is a character i played as in the game. Hmmm Somebody let me know what you guys think

James' fate is left ambiguous after Silent Hill 2 ends; any of the ends could be canon, though the In Water ending is the most held theory.

@WalkerOfTheWastes If you look at the whole series of Silent Hill I guess the water ending seems the most cannon, but really for the game's sake I'd say the rebirth ending is the most satisfying and 'whole' ending. I mean, not all Silent Hill games are that interesting so I'd rather follow their logic individually.

Silent Hill 2 is the only sequel to anything that's even better than the original. I don't care what anyone says, Silent Hill 2 is the best of them all. James is so adorable, Maria awesomely creepy, Angela is just a great character overall, there's a wonderful storyline, and the voice acting is actually acceptable, and of course there's better graphics.

The first one was good, but this one deals with a lot more emotions of grief, regret, lust, repressed memories, depression, and there's so much more symbolism. In the game, he's supposed to symbolize James' sexual frustration and his feeling of needing punished for his actions if I'm correct. Rose had no problems to have him symbolize. And the plot was so different from the games. Dahlia was a sympathetic character, the protagonist is a chick, the only thing I liked was the "Dark Alessa" idea, and I thought the ending was cool.

Homecoming and Dead Space are the same in many gameplay and design elements. And yes, condemned and dead space are nothing compared with old Silent Hill games, actually, there is not many games, that can reach Silent Hill's level of quality(Silent hill it's more game art, than just game), and one of them, is Metal Gear Solid. Moreover, i'd say, that only David Lynch's films can be campared with Silent hill.

The "crazy pornographic fantasy" isn't stupid theory of some people, but officialy confirmed fact. "Lost memories" and "Making of sh 2" will help you understand what is really going on in this game

My slightly different theory is that James came to the town because it summoned him with his power, and his otherworld of was created to give him what he desired: Punishment.

All of the character's versions of the town was built built on fears, nightmares, emotions and desires. Since all of the characters were feeling guilty for their sins, (even subconciously) the town gave them punishment.

That's true, Silent Hill can build other world on the character's subconsciousness. But I don't like theory about Silent Hill's power, that summons peoples. I think James came to the town, because he was despaired, confused by his own memories, he didn't want to believe, that he killed his wife. In result, his consciousness has created the letter from Mary to end sufferings(hope for James). Silent Hill in this letter only because it was Sanderlend's special place, happiest part of their life.

I think these scenes give some of the backstory to the character's past actions prior to the game:

I.E:

1:34; Jame's is holding a person. We know Mary died. :\

2:48; Angela is running away from something. Perhaps a certain abusive relative?

2:52; Eddie might have picked up Laura and brought her to Silent Hill with him in his van. (PEDO.)

3:27; Maria was a dancer in Heaven's Night. Alternatively, play her side story in the Restless Dreams version of Silent 2.
