I have to admit I cried during this video. After 12 yrs of raising rats, I swear I saw a version of every one of my girls in this video.

Yes, it is very sad to lose them, but they are like bright little flames that burn out quickly. We only have them with us for a short while. The best we can do is cherish them while they are here, and know there are so many others out there in need of a good home. That is the special challenge of loving rats.

There's incredible joy and sadness that comes with having pet rats in our lives. They are such amazingly loving and intelligent creatures that it's easy to bond deeply with them. Because of their short lifespan their loss hits us very hard.

I try to look at rat friendship as a contract I have accepted. When I bring a pet rat into my life I know I will get fun and joy and love like no other. I promise to give

the best possible home and return that love, knowing our time togeher will be

short. It doesn't make the loss any easier, but I know down the road there are other special little souls out there waiting in need of a home and love.

Rats are incredibly smart and affectionate. They love to bond with us. When I had a set of 3 sisters, I would let them play in plastic tunnels on the sofa, and sometimes, if I left the room, I would come back in and they were standing up, like meerkats, looking in the direction I came from. Rats are incredibly smart, but they are portrayed as sneaky, crafty, and rotten, and that's not true

My pet rat was stacking her dirty dishes in her cage. The smaller ones in the larger ones. I saw her pick them up with her teeth, biting the edge of the bowl. The first time it happened, I thought, "naw...", but she has done this repeatedly. Now get THIS, I put some peas in a small stainless poach egg cup. Later, I noticed that she took another one of these cups, which was empty, and put it upside down, on top, of the other bowl, as a perfect fit. I know they like to cover their food.

great video. I got my first pet rats two and a half years ago and I loved them. but they're gone now:'( one of the rats just died and we don't know why and the other one we had to take to the vet and put him down in january because he had cancer.'( I loved him so much he was so special to me and not like the other rats I have. but now I have 4 other rats that I've had in a year. They are just so cute and funny. why do people hate rats??? I just can't belive it!

i loved it. i use to have 2 rats . one name franky and ratagine. franky was a girl and ratagine was a boy. they both died. i miss them alot . im a girl name cielo soto. i have 4 brothers and 1 sister. when i saw the video i almost cried . they both were black and white.

yea. i still miss my first rat Blondie. I cried so hard when she died. She was old, almost 4. and she just fell asleep in my arms and died. thats how i wanted her to go, but my god i miss her so much!

Oh that takes me back to whene I had my first rat named Nibbles. Wow he was such a sweetheart but three years after I got him he grew a tumer under his armpit and we had to take him to the vet to be put down and now he's gone and Its all my fault.

Not your fault at all. The lifespan of pet rats is generally 2-3 years, and tumors, as well as respiratory disease, are very common factors in their passing. Your rat had a wonderful long life!

hairless rats are fairly common, they were originally bred for experiments for keeping body parts alive - sow on the body part on to keep blood flow going and remove when no longer needed. Now they're simply pets. They actually do have some hair, though very fine and downy. Very soft as pets actually.
