Awesome to watch, although if you want to get technical it should be entitled 'WRC Rally powerslides', drifting is a slighly different thing.

@cowabunga79 I would consider it drifting cus, they are sliding the car before they go into the turn, well right before the turn. also they are braking and sliding the car not just rolling into the corner and then accelerating full blast. Seeing cars drift in small corners can confuse the spectators in thinking that they are power sliding, they need more room to perfectly distinguish it. Power sliding is a drifting technique anyways, so it would still be considered drifting

@saulsanchez123 point taken. one could still argue that if you take into account the ever-present lack of traction (especially lateral), cornering there is mainly done by passive bodyroll, i hate arguing over semantics though, and that's exactly what it is. i am no expert, they are, so no matter what you call it, it works well and looks a treat. good clip.

I still value the word drifting in the original sense, a racing style used to take corners, but the showy "drifting" as a different definition of the word.

A great video. But I think the value of the word "drifting" has changed over the last years.

I'm not trying to be derogative, but or me "drifting" is more of a spectacular event for noobs and wannabes and has little to do with sport. It's a spectator event with a lot of bling bling.

The video is about something else: Rallying and car control. Drifting is just a bi-product of it.

Rallying is the no 1 motor sport since it schools the best all round drivers, so Rallying is the real McCoy.

@mectechman1 i would not say drifting is for noobs, as it requires quite a lot from both, the driver and the car, though it has evolved to the point where is not considered a 'move' but is rather considered a complete form of movement; it is practised for its aesthetics rather than utility. drifting has nothing to do with racing, same as 'martial arts' have little to do with 'martial sports', one is gloryfing a form itself while the other is adapting it for practical use, as it is applicable.

For real I think it comes from early racing in the beginning of the XX century. To only good way to brake was to drift. I'm not good in old racing history but count Zborowski was known for drifting-overtaking in his car with the airship engine.

I' think they should ban 4wd, cars have too much grip these days and rallying became too gentle. GT class should be a future.

@lagundafire It's easier to kick the back out on a longer car because the car swings round slower therefore you have more time to react and control the drift. When you kick the back out on a short wheel base car it flicks out really quickly and you either have to be lightning quick with your reactions or you just spin.
