  • love the crowd at the beginning

  • Jack White IS my inspiration to write music. He is my only hero.

  • @marcw93 I hate to screw with your insperation or Karma but where did you gain any insperation to write music from Jack White concerning this song? "Jolene" was written by country music icon Dolly Parton released as the A-side single in late 1973;the B-side was titled "Lonley Coming Down" Parton later released it on her album titled "Jolene" in 1974; the song quickly rose to #1 on the country charts. You should listen to Parton's version and hear "REAL" singing, being wierd doesn't mean good.

  • @yargnodrog dont be silly

Just because a song is popular doesn't mean it's good. Anyone who has listened to the radio in the passed 10 years would know that. I have listened to the original and don't think it could even stand next to this one.

  • @TheRagnaroak Well I certainly respect your right to voice your opinion and more so your right to do so;however,I simply can't fathom what's so great about the cover of a song(a great song)that has been reduced to what to me sounds like the screeching of cat that just had it's tail stepped on.I'm not even a C&W fan for the most part;I simply think Parton is good writer&singer.I understand the Garage sound is the latest COOL sound.I just don't see the writing insperation here;he didn't write it!

  • @Geiranimo its a cover of a song. Originally sung by a girl from a girls point of view, obviously. Its an amazing cover though. I love Jacks voice. He sings from the soul in it.

  • Jack White, you're amazing.

  • One of the most original, intuitive and genuwine player of is time. It's a yes, Jack White is pure talent :)

  • Jack White smoked up with me when they were in Winnipeg

  • This is amazing...Jack and Meg bring some of that old style playing and passion into the music. Thats what todays music needs most: passion and sincerity and a lot of emotion.

  • WOW.

  • keeps getting better every time i listen :D

  • Dolly Parton is a very underrated song writer

  • @dsnfldgfds is she, really? she's sold more then a 100 million albums

  • fucking amazing!.. gives me shivers every time.

  • not to many people have tried to do this song, since dolly

  • goosebumps everytime he says jolene

  • @0007ManMountain goosebumps throughout the song

  • @RRNYC1998 Clearly you have no idea the genius that is the White Stripes. Are you really that deaf or do you just enjoy mocking some of the most brilliant songs of our generation?

  • Without a bass, a song cannot sound good

  • @RRNYC1998 haha thats stupid

  • @RRNYC1998 Well every song from white stripes just proved you wrong.

  • @chvick Lol well seven nation army is completely bass in the beginning but still..

  • @jester6241996 Yeah true... also if he can't handle music without bass he could listen to The Raconteurs :P also an amazing band thanks to Jack White

  • @jester6241996 it's just an octave pedal.

  • @RRNYC1998 watch a movie called It Might Get Loud you may learn a thing or two about rock and roll

  • @RRNYC1998 That's a very wide and simple generalisation and it cuts out a lot of songs that actually do sound very good.

  • @RRNYC1998 The blues has always been stripped down, what the blues lacks in bass it makes up for with soul and emotion.

  • hiya i am rich now

  • That voice is something remarkable

  • I hate adverts.

  • I feel like an idiot but I thought this was a Dolly Parton song...

  • @BaliMangoOfficial It is, but sometimes artist sing each others songs

  • ey tell me your fantasies, spare no details and let's have a good time

  • Anyone who is a jack white or rock n roll fan I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE BAND "THE PARLOR MOB"!!!

trust me, check them out. they are amazing! spread the word on some of the few talented bands out there.

  • I love this song♥

  • I actually just began to cry as a result of Jack White's amazingness

  • @thebonniephilp he has that affect on people.... and furniture, guitars, curtains, fruit, motor vehicles you know where I'm going with this...

  • @darthesgoobis123 Most Definitely!

  • @thebonniephilp the man dose have 10 Grammies

  • Jack White is great at scratchy voice singing and random guitar playing, and making them sound great.

  • rock véio podre

  • Jolene ! holy shit I can't stop passing this song over and over, only live version :P

    WHITE STRIPES !!!

  • Why is this uploaded by god of death?

  • jack can do things with his voice that no one else can do

  • @slickskillsman except maybe mike patton;)

  • NO. My laptop can't turn this up loud enough..

  • Omg samuel sang this on the final episode and he won omg thank u white stripes for makin the song ment for samuel to win

  • @RASBERRY112 Dude, this is a cover. Dolly Parton made it....

  • @eviltalkingcarrot like i care

  • Jack's voice seems like that of Robert Plant

  • Great

  • tá fumado meu jovem?

  • Musica do caralho mas cantar desafinado é foda viu.

  • fucking omg i was born tyo late for the beatels and for many many good groups but i was here for these duse and i never saw them live what a wanker i am :(:(

  • White Stripes is F'ing Legend !!!!!!

  • R.I.P. White stripes :(. Unfortunatelly

  • Of course he's not gonna change the words, also from this performance i'd say Jack empathizes with the situation in the lyrics even more than Dolly Parton did. It's a song, it's purpose is to convey whatever emotion and it does that, it's not a literal fucking statement.

  • i dont really get it how can ppl gave thumps down on this piece of The Meaning?!!!

  • fucking awesome version .. thanks for posting

  • I couldn't ask for a better playlist TWS + Veronica Maggio :D I miss seeing Jack and Meg play :< one day i hope they tour again!

  • I love TWS version of this song it soudns raw and hurtful just as the lyrics

  • haha he is singing about how a girls gonna steal his man haha...

  • @MirandaLuvzTwilight stfu homophobe. he aint gay. its a dolly parton cover. i would keep the lyrics the same if i was him too. i hate it when people change art. its worse than censorship.

  • That is the great thing about TWS, they never left the country music.

  • Is that his wife, girlfriend or sister on the drums?

  • @prairiemark ex-wife

  • @prairiemark they were married and he took her last name, but told everybody they were brother and sister then when everybody found out they were married they got a divorce

  • @ThePendulumMusic Thanks for the clarification. Sounds like a lot of domestic tranquility.

  • search: starmali

  • This is a legendary performance. Very few people can pull of something like this.

  • stále sqwělá !!!!

  • Jack White. You are legend. This is the best cover of any song by any artist that I've ever heard. Ever.

  • Cette version est juste incroyable, splendide, magnifique...

  • All they've done is covered a song without changing any gender specific words. Stop looking into meanings that aren't there.

  • This was a giant hit for dolly parton, it'a actually about a baby called jolene that was left on her step by a fan asking her to take care of her of course that never happened but dolly wrote this song afterward, true story.

  • God, you guys are so dumb. It's a dolly parton song.

  • Music has no gender! Jack ROCKS! This Music ROCKS! So shut up and listen!

  • Here's the way I see the song. The singer is a friend of the man. They have been friends a long time. The singer is secretly in love with the man. And the man is not gay but he loves his friend and if Jolene takes him, it would be agony for both of them. Jolene is a temptress and knows and cares nothing of the bond the two men have. I know this is not how the song was written, or how Jack wanted it to sound. But it's a tragic drama just the same. The singer's heart is on the line here. So raw.

  • @ladyfuschia

its called bromance [b intended...get it?].... its like a blood brother thing i see what ur getting to

  • Love the stripes and not a huge Dolly fan, but this doesn't do her song justice. Dolly's Jolene is timeless. But, I suppose that's why they are trying to cover it - to show respect to a masterpiece.

  • @StanleyTDS really dude? cause i see plenty of justice, but perhaps u see it a different way as i do

  • This is great! Jack White is the keeper of the flame. Now it's off to listen to the Jack White/Loretta Lynn song "Portland, OR". Another great one.

  • Comment removed

  • This is painful! There's nothing emotional about this vrsion - shouting, screaming, and being melodramatic does not convey emotion.

  • I have to say jack white you are a genius!!

  • There is nothing " Gay " about this song it's a Fucking Cover Song and Fucking Brilliant. Only Jack White could take on a challenge like this and make it work because he is a fucking Fearless Artist and Musician!!!

  • so good....dolly sings it best, but damn......... this is great

  • @MrDannyDanielak I agree with you sir (or mam?)

  • have you never heard of an artist that doesn't mind showing how everyone feels, and translates that in his songs, the guy is brilliant. thanks jack

  • WOOOHOOOOOO FUCKING JOLENE Thank you for this song !!!!!!!

  • the most soulfull icon in rock today

  • Yeah it's a guy singing a tune from the female perspective. Big deal, so what; if you can't get around that it's your problem. Just listen to the pure emotion in his voice. This cover of the song is so emotional and heartfelt it almost makes my eyes water. This is what real music is.

  • @Dridstar

Only if his best friend is called Jolene.

  • I love it!!!! him or dolly!

  • I don't know about you, but i'm glad he didn't change the lyrics.

  • @Dridstar That's bull. He didn't want to change the lyrics for whatever reason, possibly because they're not his and they already have so much emotion in them. I remember reading or hearing it somewhere, like he toyed with the idea but in the end he didn't.

  • I love this so much <3

  • Great track listen too kulu change of heart on youtube.

  • I would punch my own mother in the face for a hug off JACK!!

  • dud im so gay

  • if this was in HD i think it would ruin the video

  • "I'm begging of you, please don't take my band. Please don't take 'em even though you can!"

Even though they're gone their music will live on forever. (So STOP having this fucking sexuality argument over such an amazing song, performed by such an amazing band. God dammit.)

  • I LOVE THIS.

  • AWESOME!

  • This is just awsome.

  • oh fuck. i'll never get to see them live

  • @RaoulAhabDuke one day my friend. one day

  • Powerful.

  • it makes me cry when i remember that i will never listen jack and megan live =( i am not rock n' roll head who knows all about this music but i really like to listen to this kind of music ! <3

  • You're all a bunch of fucking morons. But anyways - FUCK YEAH WHITE STRIPES

  • I wonder if Jack has ever read these comments?

  • Come on guys. It's about the love for the art of the axe! Agree to disagree!

  • Who cares if he's talking about a man? A song tells a story and this is what he's doing

  • Love both versions, Dolly's and Jack's but Jack's sounds a bit more emotional... of course Dolly's was way back in the 60's and infedelity was on a different level delt with (men was quite ok to cheat) so, that se did even write the song is above emotional flatness but hey.. Still he did a very nice cover, true to the lyrics and we love it for what it is. (And to those who wanted change in the gender, a guy singing about a girl stealling his man is better? We KNOW it's a female song dammit)

  • YAY WHITE STRIPES AND DOLLY PARTON! :D

  • i think jack might be a flamin homo talking about a woman taking his man... the man in this case is definitely bill waggoner aka the final boss of the internet.... true story fyi

  • @StropewafelBWC This is a cover, you stupid moron.

  • @boaspagesturn White Stripes > Colplay : imo

  • Wow! Amazing. Simply amazing.

  • best song i've ever heard from the white stripes.

  • @tsmith2187

actually its a song from Dolly Parton. She wrote it in lately 60s, when a girl called Jolene tried to steal Dolly's husband

  • @czaaarny2193

I know. Still, I like Jack Whites version better than Dolly's.

  • Comment removed
