  • Rather strange that so many people seem to think this is Peter Green, while it's just a song performed by (Peter Green's) Fleetwood Mac, which is a band, not a person;) So, I'd like to repeat what many already said before me: this Robert Jojhnson cover is played (piano) and sung by Jeremy Spencer completely on his own. It's also mentioned in the headers this is Jeremy on vocals.

  • just the right amount of alcohol was consumed before this was recorded.

  • I love that Spencer made up new lyrics, then added "if we had a TARDIS". Jeremy Spencer was a Doctor Who fan.

  • Respect...for the times turning, Greeny stood by his roots, no commercialism then, yet ! I saw him a year ago, first row, tears when he played...Love you, Greenie ! You've been our blues emporer from the black masters... Only one comparable I can think of...Mick Taylor

  • Ya - it's definitely Jeremy Spencer. Never met him but heard him and Green to know for sure which is which. And only Spencer is credited with "piano" on their first album. Green is revered for his guitar playing, and rightly so. But I think he is also one of the best blues vocalists ever. Everything about the guy is haunting. Likewise, Spencer is known for his phenomenal slide playing, but he is also a great blues voice - not as dynamic and full as Green but still very good.

  • Does anyone know how to play the piano part?

  • Jeremy and Peter and Danny Kirwan and John and Mick. Heck the whole band was great great great GREAT. Add in Christine to the mix for that matter. One of the all time groups (though----of course this period was my favorite). Kudos to John Mayall while we're at it. Jack and Eric and Ginger. Yeah of course they were wonderful, but everyone knows they were great already---even people with limited blues appreciation. Early FMac is way under-appreciated.

  • Jeremy Spencer sang and played the piano on this tune. Despite being a Fleetwood Mac release, this recording really has nothing to do with Peter Green. So I'd say it's a bit unfair to say "Green" got the mood right on this track, when it was all Spencer.

  • Peter Green-an inventive, naturally gifted ,soulful blues guitarist. I hope that he lives a long and happy life. All the other stuff about him weve all heard a million times and im very bored with it. Thank you Peter for your beautiful music. 41 years on and Man of the world still turns me to jelly from the heart down every time i hear it

  • Jeremy Spencer. Book it.

  • This is definitely not Peter Green y'all!

  • Peter Green guitar god

  • This is Jeremy Spencer and not Peter Green! I used to hang with Jeremy a little and this is definitely him and not PG. What makes any of you think this is Peter Green???

  • lol, no you didn't.

  • @TheFivecorners Your hung with Jeremy? That's way cool :). He seems like such a gentle and thoughtful spirit.

  • I was in my first band the summer of 1969 and we listened to this album over and over and over again. We covered Shake your money maker.

  • First album I bought in college...John Mayall with Peter Green. Became a blues fanatic and I've never regretted it. These guys can stand against all comers. And oh yeah, they have the smartest fans.

  • Took me back.

  • Jeezuz, doesn't anyone understand the blues anymore? Its not about the lyrics, or the notes, or the tempo; its about the mood created. Robert Johnson was THE master at creating that longing, haunting, lonesome mood. I've not heard anyone else get so close to Johnson as Green does on this track. The notes and lyrics are irrelevent to the objective; they are means to an end.

  • @Ryanshinobi I see what your saying, but for me Charley Patton is where it's at....songs like 'Prayer of Death Part 1 & 2', 'I'm going home' ' some these days I'll be gone' ....for me it makes a mood like no other

  • We all know that Robert's the man, but Jeremy's reversal of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day was a great idea.

  • I like the piano; it gives the song a different 'feel'... It's spacious.

  • Great stuff, decent cover of Robert Johnson. Most bands of the era tended to speed up and distort the rural blues, not these guys!!!! True to the spirit of the original.

  • beautiful video

  • amazing how they could go from this to tell me lies

tell me boring middle of the the road shite.

  • I was a teenager back in the sixtiees, listening to Peter Green.

  • Me too and do you agree that the original was best? I saw them at Colston Hall Bristol. amazing live!

  • I was a teenager back in the 70`s and

80`s and listened to Peter Green.

My kids were teenagers in the `90`s and 00`s and guess what? They are listening to Peter Green!

Long may the Green God grace all our lives!

  • this was a pretty good cover. i liked it.

  • The video was kinda cool, but I don't dig the song very much. That said, keep contributing. Very cool stuff. I'd never heard this before, and I'm a Robert Johnson freak.

  • Peter Green you are so amazing!

  • Jeremy is a freak - these guys were the best.

  • I was wondering, what makes Jeremy a "freak"?

  • Is that good?

  • maybe, if he's a super freak.

  • Maybe...:D

  • I messed up the comment.

  • @evanfrmheaven Freak is second only to "Wizard" in the hierarchal order. One's life would rich indeed if one were to attain Freak

  • Comment removed

  • Really amazing these guys could put this tune to piano and it would be just as haunting as the original.

  • The one i have at the end of this song Jeremy Spencer says,"i don't know the words to that though".

Then in the outtakes he does it again, keeps the music but changes the lyrics to a song called your so evil.

  • Jeremy does some lovely piano pieces on the Mac BBC sessions if anyone is interested.

  • Mr. tom linson, it is a LP not a CD. Thanks for the feedback.

  • oh, well, that's different, isn't it?

  • Yes they are different, an LP is not the same as a CD.

  • oi fuck off. least hes making a contrubution to youtube letting people hear songs they may never had before. wheres your input to youtube?

    thought so

  • I'm fucking amazed at this profound and erudite bit of wit from Mr. Wood. Good job, Woodie!

BTW, your videos are total crap, too.

  • cheers mate all the best

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!

I wish someone could teach me how to play it. Too bad, there isn't a tutorial on Youtube!

So to all you keyboarders and pianoplayers...please create a lesson on this song.

    Thanks!

  • cool

  • Really love those guys.

  • Jeremy is a freak. These guys were the best.

  • Mr. Crossie, who is the "freak", some one who gives the world a work of outstanding artistry, or some one who, sits around and reports about other people, typically involving details that are not confirmed as being true?

  • i dont think he meant freak in a bad sense, even though it was quite ambiguous x

  • lamprey!

  • Very nice to see this band get its due. Youtube has been good for the dedicated fans to check this stuff out. Peter Green . . . one of a kind . . .

  • it is cool to have the music out there on y.t.

  • Jeremy on piano and vocals, that's it. Only a few know that Jeremy is a great piano player too

  • Thanks, I thought so.(not listed as credit on LP)

  • I've got the Lp (showing a big can of trash on the front cover and called simply "Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac") and if it is the same you own, my friend, Jeremy is credited both on slide guitar and piano on the back cover. But, the harmonica player, instead, is either unknown and uncredited; yet, I suppose he might be the poor Duster Bennett. I own an Italian copy of the Lp, so probably it differs from yours. Check it out if you please, and let me know. Ciao!

  • mine just has a woman on the front cover.

  • The harmonica is Peter Green himself, Mick says so in his autobiography & you can see him in the video above at 1:34 shown playing harp

  • I was a mate of Jerry's in the sixties, and he would often play the piano in the art college's canteen - happy days. Interestingly, his voice and guitar playing sounds just then same today as it did in the old days - but we have both lost virtually all our hair now.

  • Jeremy is on piano and Peter Green is on vocals---great song

  • Jeremy is on piano and vocals, not Peter.

  • fucking great!

  • I love them

    It's great !!!

  • Yes that's Jerry singing, no mistake of this! Jerry's much better on Oldies, Peter is a pure British Blues singer, though, a great one.

  • That's Jeremy Spencer not Peter.

  • Peter Green Fleetwood Mac "Hellhound On My Trail"

Black Magic Woman LP (Jeremy Spencer) vocals (more)
