Not bobbing my head out of the respect of the men who shared their pain of being oppressed simply by being a different color than their oppressors. Listening more to the pain, the frustration, the bottled anger and the passion of being hated and punished for nothing more than being God's creation. This IS NOT "HEAD BOBBING" music.
I grew up in the segregated South, and I know first hand how wrongly American Blacks were treated. As a child, I played with black children who were my friends, but couldn't drink outta the same water fountain as me, or use the same bathroom. I didn't like it then, and I'm glad that things in this country have changed. In regards to this music, it amazes me how much intense spiritual power can be created in conditions of such abject misery and adversity. The human spirit is a marvel...
@bear83706 I couldn't agree with you more mate. Like a phoenix, the human spirit will not simply let itself be eaten up by the fire, it will come back, again and again.
@BenjaminKuruga yes, they told their lies. Some "disrespected' white people, approached white women, tried to vote, and some even did the unmentionable - they dared to stick up for themselves and their families when mistreated.
Is there anyone who knows anymore information about this song. I have a teacher who told me the "lead singer" was a man they called 22. Anything will help. I'd like to learn more about my roots.
the link to the video on youtube wont post, but copy this phrase "TreZure - Early In The Morning @ Southpaw, Brooklyn, NYC, 11/28/09." and you will find a good version of my interpolation of Early In the Morning, my favorite chain gang song.
@treZuretheempress Wow Trez!! Great moves. Great emotion. Great rendition. I want to hear more. Bless you for keeping the spirit of this music alive. Do you have any interest in the really "bawdy" (wink) songs of the past ... "shave 'em dry" by Bessie Jackson ... "the dirtier dozens" by Speckled Red? Let me know and I'll send you links. The lyrics are quite filthy so i dont want to send them without asking you first. Peace.

@treZuretheempress Hi Trez. I'm so happy to hear you keep these songs alive. They are so mesmerizing, so full of feeling and beauty. Bless you. post a link to one of your performances so I can see you. thanks. BH.
@BluesHonkey here is one of the stronger videos of me performing Early In the Morning. Its one of my singles on my debut album THE SHIVERS that will be released next spring. I hope you enjoy my interpretation.
FOR WHITES WHO THINK THEIR BRUTALITY CREATED THESE SONGS/ know that Black Americans are The Judaisian Israelites. And America was their 8th Captivity/ this America is written in Dueteronomy 28:68, THEREFORE THEY ARE SINGING THE SONGS OF DAVID, AND SOLOMON, THAT WAS WRITTEN IN THE COSMIC BEFORE AMERICAN CAPTIVITY. AS THEY HAD 7 PRIOR. Also the Walls of Black Asian, have the Bible Carved on Walls, of Blacks as well as Egypt. and Mesopotamia. THEREFORE SADISTS, DONT GIVE YOURSELF TOO MUCH CREDIT.
@MidtempoSoundLabs if these tracks are from 1947 and from Africa, why are the songs sung in english with a 4/4 rhythm anbd also with a 1980 to 1990's arrangement. This is a set up. Fake fake fake.
@MidtempoSoundLabs Hey thanks so much for the download....love these songs ...don't know why, but just thinking about how things must have been back then...very powerful !!!
No doubt the recording was very happy, until the breath of the singers gave the touch suffered the song sounded as distinct notes. Many thanks for posting.
Part I: Well,it´s early in the mor - in the mornin´, Baby,when I rise,Lordy,mama. Well,it´s early every morn - in the mornin´, A-baby when I rise,well-a. Well-a,when I rise,well-a, Well-a,it´s early in the mor - in the mornin´, Baby,when I rise,Lordy,baby. You have - it´s I have a misery,Berta, Wa-,in my right side,well-a, in my right side,Lordy,baby, r-in-a my right side,Lordy,sugar. Well,it´s I have a misery,Berta, R-in-a my right side, well-a.
